giantfan2000 : 7/27/2015 2:25 pm : link
how about a series of "one down" deal

when we need a pass rusher on third down
he signs a contract and goes in for the play

Dan Graziano
Sources tell @caplannfl & me that Giants, Osi Umenyiora are discussing a ceremonial one-day contract so he can retire a Giant.

Osi
Old Dirty Beckham : 7/27/2015 3:19 pm : link
is actually an underrated player. Was never the face of the defense but he was a damn good player. When he hit the qb he hit the ball too.

A guy who matured as a human being during his giant career.
Make it so...
Torrag : 7/27/2015 3:24 pm : link
...I always liked Osi.

is he going to whine about this contract for a few years?
Do these guys get paid to sign these one day deals?

.
Can we slap the franchise tag on him after the one day is up?
Shepherdsam : 7/27/2015 4:26 pm : link
Force him to play this year?
Was he riding the bike when he signed it?

BBI article on subject. Beat reporters have franchise sack ranking wrong...Umenyiora is 7th, not 4th, because NFL doesn't count sacks before 1982.

It's one of the reasons why Strahan is erroneously said to be ahead of LT's 142 sacks.

So do franchise sacks include those from before the NFL
Upstate_Giants_fan : 7/27/2015 7:02 pm : link
started counting them?

If not, I'm confused (how unusual).....
Just saw what looked like a tweet from Owa
Eli's Got This Stuff : 7/27/2015 7:44 pm : link
on the subject that made it sound like it was already done. Maybe someone familiar with Twitter can post.

Side note: I like how Odiggy knows his giants history
I hate to admit it but was watching ESPN
Eli's Got This Stuff : 7/27/2015 7:44 pm : link
And I saw it in the background quickly
That sack of matt ryan in that 2011 playoff game
Giants4246 : 7/27/2015 8:32 pm : link
was fucking awesome.
Osi's one of my all-time favorites.
bceagle05 : 7/27/2015 8:34 pm : link
Contract shit never fazed me - he made huge plays in the biggest of games. His performance in SB42 was overshadowed by Tuck, but tremendous in it's own right. He schooled Matt Light.

I got the Giants' sack figures from an old media guide.

But it's well known LT had 9.5 sacks as a rookie. Officially, they don't count it, which is ridiculous.
It's also known
FStubbs : 7/27/2015 8:58 pm : link
Deacon Jones once had 26 1/2 sacks in a 12 game season. I remember someone once went back to see how many sacks some of those players had.
Nice.

Some might think it stupid, but I'm a sentimental dude.
Awesome! Osi was and always will be a great Giant.
SoDev : 7/27/2015 10:39 pm : link
Too bad so many "Giants fans" rather make stupid comments for msg. board attention than show a little respect to a Giant who helped the team win 2 superbowls.
Thank goodness Ernie held firm
David in LA : 7/27/2015 10:55 pm : link
and told SD that Osi was not available. His first step was world class.
Was hoping he'd get that last year like

bitching and moaning about this contract?
If not for the Giants' choke against Philly...
Big Blue Blogger : 7/28/2015 7:09 am : link
...Umenyiora's 2010 season, with its weekly strip-sacks, might have entered NYG lore like Pierre-Paul's 2011. Osi may have been a one-trick pony after 2007, but it was one hell of a trick.
