NFT: Best place to sell old money in new york area?

MookGiants : 7/27/2015 2:31 pm
My grandmother and great aunt were given a bunch of old money that looks to have a decent amount of value based on a little bit of research. They were given it by their aunt who worked for the treasury department for 40 years in DC. Anyways she asked me to try to sell some of it for her, but I dont know where the best place to take it is in the NYC area. Anyone have any recommendations? Through some quick research on some of the pieces looks like the value of their stuff is somewhere in the 5-7 thousand range.
Now this sounds

on Ebay completed listings to get a feel of what they're selling for.
And now that I think about it, you might want to contact kickerpa16...

I believe he collects something along these lines, as far as old currency. He might have insight.

and you will get a much better value selling these kind of bills on e-bay.

Selling them to a collector or a coin shop will get you closer to a wholesale value.
Definetly check out CCF...

that is the 'go to' site for coin collectors. You should post it in the section "main coin forum." There are many helpful people who would love to help. Let them know as much as you can about the 'money.' Coins, paper money, bullion, foreign currency, types (e.g., Mercury Dime) and condition. Let them know if it's loose, or if it's in slabs or albums. You'd be shocked at the values (high and low) for currency.

Let me know if I can help... I've collected coins since I was 8 years old. I specialize in US coins (I don't know squat about paper currency or foreign coins) and I post at CCF.

I don't recommend eBay. You'll have to compete with a lot of other coins (mostly from coin shops) and you'll pay an arm and a leg for the posting & sale.

You can sell your stuff at CCF (I think you have to have 50 posts) for no charge. You can also sell coins very easily to other collectors at USA Coin Book. They only charge 3% after you sell the coins... no charge for the listing. Play around at the sites for a little while and get used to them. It will be worth if you're willing to invest a little time.

BTW... if you have any high silver content coins (pre-1965 quarters, dimes, half dollars) you might want to hold on to them. The price of spot silver is sinking daily.
Here's a thread at CCF...
