NFT: Popcorn

How good is it? TREMENDOUS. What are come recipes you all use? I will say I started popping in coconut oil on medium low in a stir fry pan, glass lid and it comes out perfect every time. Butter and salt is great but after my Maine trip I've been experimenting with seasonings. And I always love Smartfood.

You all?
I have one of those hot air poppers

and buy the snappy white stuff on amazon and throw them in there, melt my own butter. I like it quite a bit more than the microwave stuff
recipe
Deej : 7/27/2015 8:57 pm : link
3 tablespoons popcorn, 1 tablespoon canola oil, big pinch salt, and some sugar/splenda if you want "kettlecorn"

All in a brown paper lunch bag standing up straight. Fold over top a few times, in microwave for 90-110 seconds.

If you pop in coconut oil, you don't even need butter
Greg from LI : 7/27/2015 9:02 pm : link
Just add some salt. We started making our popcorn on the stove top years ago and never looked back. Better flavor, better texture and cheaper, too.
Olive oil and popcorn

it sounds crazy, in many ways, but its delish.

garlic salt, dill, nutritional yeast, drizzle of olive oil. mix it up in a bowl and dig in. try not to make another batch. it goes QUICK.

Is it appreciably better than generic popcorn? I recently switched from prepackaged microwave to making my own, and have been very happy with the cheaper of the two brands at my supermarket (more expensive one was Orville R).
Nutritional yeast?

I learned something new
I am also curious about white popcorn
Essex : 7/27/2015 9:30 pm : link
What is the tasting difference between that and regular popcorn

Yes. Popular in vegan cooking you can find it in the baking isle near gluten free items. Cheesy, buttery taste. Very good - almost like a healthy butter buds
Butter, garlic salt and Parmesan cheese...

....is one of my usuals. Occasionally like Old Bay as well.

We make it all the time because my 3 y/o mixes up the letters and calls it "Cop Porn" which is pretty awesome.
We've used a whirly pop..

pot years ago where you only have to use a little oil and have never looked back.
All this talk of nutritional yeast & coconut oil
smshmth8690 : 7/27/2015 9:58 pm : link
is making me afraid to post my way of popping corn. I usually just do a little oil & salt, but I have on occasion done it a lot unhealthier.
I will take about 4 Tbs. of rendered Benton's bacon fat, in a pan with about a half cup of popcorn, after it pops I season it with salt, and a Turkish chile powder called Urfa Biber. You can use any seasoning you want, but the Urfa Biber has an almost smoky quality to it that works great with the bacon & popcorn. Goes great with a nice brown ale.

It's all laughs and giggles until child services is at your door because your kid told his teacher "Me and daddy love to make cop porn."
Sprinkle some of this stuff on

On the few occasions when there's popcorn
Bill in UT : 7/28/2015 1:15 am : link
in my house, I'll scoff down whatever's there. And if someone buys some at the movies I'll eat it. But other than that, I never have popcorn cravings and eat very little of it. I end up eating a lot more potato chips
This is the best popcorn I have ever had
buford : 7/28/2015 6:47 am : link
It's non-gmo and the microwave bags don't have all those awful chemicals in it. We have the bags and the loose popcorn. Smells and tastes great.

Cayenne Pepper...a touch of salt and butter.
Just enough olive oil to coat the bottom of a large saucepan
Matt M. : 7/28/2015 10:21 am : link
Add in sea salt, enough kernels to cover the bottom, sprinkle more sea salt, and cover with the glass cover. The kids absolutely love it. On a rare occasion I'll add a little butter and/or Parmesan cheese, but the kids really love it just the way I described.
I still have an old oil

Matt M. : 7/28/2015 11:52 am : link
I might have to try that, as we usually have it in the house.
