Puig is officially on the block too and if you're the Mets you have to consider this. Don't know what the Mets could offer but he'd like the change in scenery and he'd take a starring role which he likes
Yankees will counter the Tulo move, just don't know which way (one of Hamels, Chapman or Kimbrel most likely).
what do the Rockies do w Reyes? What does Toronto do about their pitching?
IMO Reyes gets flipped again for more prospects because the Rockies are going to completely tear it down. Which also means CarGo might be available for the right price (but it would be steep). Reyes makes $22 million though, so if the Rockies can't find a team to take that salary they're stuck with him
I know the Mets inquired about Tulo, but his monster contract runs through 2020 and the Mets were never going to commit to that. Reyes, on the other hand, only has two more years and a team option in 2018. Bringing Reyes in to play SS and hit at the top of the lineup would be a huge deal for the Mets and their fans. The Rockies have SS prospect Trevor Story at AAA and clearing Reyes and his salary while bringing back some more young talent would make a lot of sense.
what did Toronto give up? Did anyone kick in cash? Owner supposedly told Tulo he wasn't getting traded and that he'd be consulted on destination. Crazy deadline.
RE: RE: still think weirdest angle is Toronto not getting pitching help Â
Troy Tulowitzki ss
10 years/$157.75M (2011-20), plus 2021 club option
10 years/$157.75M (2011-20), plus 2021 club option
signed extension with Colorado 11/30/10, replacing final 3 years and option in previous contract
11:$5.5M, 12:$8.25M, 13:$10M, 14:$16M, 15-19:$20M annually, 20:$14M, 21:$15M club option ($4M buyout)
salaries for 2020 and 2021 may increase by $6M annually based on 2019-20 MVP vote, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger or All-Star selections
award bonuses, including $25,000 each for Gold Glove, All Stars
$2M assignment bonus if traded
may be traded only once during contract (full no-trade thereafter)
Since it sounded like he inquired about him when in Colorado, why wouldn't he inquire again with Toronto?
If you're a Met fan, why would you want to bail out another team's colossal mistake?
Do you really want to give up a member of a pitching staff that could be amazing for a someone with that contract and injury problems? Not to mention the fact that, c'mon, you really think the Wilpons would seriously consider taking on that contract? And, even if they did, imagine the haul the Mets would have to give up to offset the cost of said contract. They'd have to give up a ton just to make sure the Rockies eat a significant portion of his contract.

I don't want it. I have been against the Mets going after Tulo all along. I am just raising the question to whether Sandy might revisit it.
They do, but it comes along with an unsightly pitching staff that features Mark Buehrle as their "Ace". He's having a good year but they need better than that. They're going to have to find a way to get an arm.

Checked in with #Mets who say they are not interested in reacquiring Reyes #Rockies #Bluejays
that's a mistake. Reyes would kill to come back here. And though he makes $22 million per, it's only for 2016 and 2017. The third year club option for 2018 can be bought out for $4 million.
True, he's older and looks slower, but the turf is killing his legs. The grass fields, return home could rejuvenate him. But I would not overpay. No top line pitchers nor Conforto could be involved.

Respectfully, if Reyes would "kill to come back here", he can drop his salary in half to live here as far as I'm concerned.

I agree, it's weird they went for Tulo when what they need is pitching. I guess they are going to try to bludgeon opposing teams.

#BlueJays dangled Reyes to "everyone in baseball" -- including #Mets. Could still be flipped. But not to Queens Link - ( New Window )
From the Martino article ...
Talking to Jays people a few weeks ago when the club was in New York, the team was confused about a significant decline in Reyes’ defense. Both advanced metrics and naked eyes could see that he wasn’t making plays that he used to, and had become a liability at shortstop. Fielding metrics actually show that Wilmer Flores has had a stronger year at the position than Reyes.

Fielding metrics lol. We could put together a highlight reel for anybody playing SS b/c they have so many chances. If you want to put together low lights though, you can't find any SS as sad as Flores was. Not to put it politely, he sucks at SS and Reyes in decline is still better than Flores at his best.
"CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Blue Jays are trading prospect right-hander Jesus Tinoco to the Rockies in the Troy Tulowitzki blockbuster.
And with that, the deal consists of Tulowitzki and LaTroy Hawkins to Toronto for Jose Reyes, Miguel Castro, Jeff Hoffman, and Tinoco. Armed with a low-to-mid 90s fastball, a slider, and a changeup, the 20-year-old Tinoco has a 3.54 ERA and 68/22 K/BB ratio in 81 1/3 innings over 15 starts this season with Class A Lansing."
It would be nice to pick up another starter or bullpen help but not selling out the future. Possibly work out a trade for Zobrist for added depth. Sign Price as a free agent in the off season.
Just don't make a move for the sake of making a move. The club is playing well.

That's the way the yanks should play it this trading deadline. Start focusing on those players coming up instead trading away like the past for aging vets etc

I agree with everything, except signing Price in the off-season. IMO, Price is going to be CC Part 2- Price is already 30 years old, has been worked hard since college, and will inevitably go into his decline phase in the next couple of years. The last thing the Yanks need is to give out ANOTHER contract that will end badly.
If the Yanks are going to sign FAs or hand out long deals, give them ONLY to players who are very likely to play out their primes under the contract- e.g. Gardner's deal or Tanaka's deal.
The Yanks need to view FA contracts like a business does- why would you pay for past performance with an older player when the past has multitudes of examples to demonstrate that the player is going to decline while overpaying him.
If you want the Yanks to give out big money, sign Pineda to a long term extension- at least he will give you his prime years under that deal, not his decline years.

That third team has to find $22 million to afford Reyes

Yep. Good luck with that, LOL.
why would anyone want Tulo playing on turf?
Tulo's hips and his contract are a nightmare. Good luck Toronto!

6 things to know about tulo/reyes. 1 nugget: reyes actually has higher pay in '16 & '17.
