Under the radar backup OTs that might shake free from camps?

GiantSteps : 7/28/2015 10:55 am
Here's a weird one/wishful thinking:

Do you guys have any ideas about teams that are deep enough at either OT position that a possible option for RT could open up after/during camp?
In other words (for instance) who's the guy behind Doug Free and La'el Collins? How's he?

His name was Jeremy Parnell. He signed with Jacksonville for 5/$32m.

You don't want to sign other team castoffs/backups. You're looking for a decent vet starter who being pushed out by a young player/high draft choice.

Yeah. OK so then I guess the question is are there any teams out there that may be in a position to cast off a decent vet because they're deep at the OT position?

I don't know, I hate to "bury Newhouse while he still lives"
but he wasn't brought in to be the starting RT, was he? I'm just wondering if there's anyone we might have our eyes on who could shake loose.

I mean, I wouldn't be too bummed out if we could get Evan Mathis in and move Pugh back to RT, but it seems like Mathis is too old/too expensive.

Anyone else you guys have your eyes on?
I think

what we will wind up seeing is them starting camp with who they have. If after the first week / preseason game the starting RT looks bad or if Flowers doesn't look like he can hang at LT we could see someone like Jake Long signed.

My personal wish would be to extend Eli and open the space to bring aboard Evan Mathis who would then push Schwartz out to RT. I'm not an NFL GM or coach so I don't get to make those decisions though :D
Don't know

but reading Kevin Gilbride's take on the "O" line was unsettling. Feels Beatty's injury severely messes up plans.

Anyone you pickup late is handicapped

No familiarity with your offense. No time in your system. It's usually a desperation move because someone got hurt. That said I'm sure the Giants have a book on the guys that could become available and are keeping their eyes open.
If McAdoo is willing to go to war with Newhouse at RT...

...you have to figure he has a better handle on MN's capabilities and limitations than any of us. If he's wrong, and Newhouse flops, a right side of Schwartz and Mosley might be as good as anything you'll find in the aftermarket.

staff doesn't want Newhouse starting and is praying that Mosley is up to the task at RT and can stay healthy.
Newhouse hasn't shown that he's a capable NFL starter.
Jake Long is in Atlanta taking a physical.

Not sure if he is going to be an option much longer?

McAdoo didn't want to go to war with Newhouse he wanted him as a backup and even that wasn't guaranteed. So far he and Mosley are what they have and there isn't much else out there.
How about

At this point, we don't know what McAdoo thinks of Newhouse. What we do know is that the Giants signed him, and that his contract suggests they view him as a viable #3/swing tackle - a view to which McAdoo surely contributed, as the member of the staff who knows Newhouse best. We also know there haven't been any dramatic moves since Beatty's injury, and neither Pugh nor Schwartz has moved to tackle, so the team doesn't appear to be in panic mode over the prospect of Newhouse or Mosley starting at RT.

I think the opening-night OL starters are all on the roster. The RT could be Newhouse, Mosley, Schwartz, Pugh - even Bamiro, Flowers, Jerry or Hart. But whoever he is, I'm pretty sure he's already here.

It's quite likely the players already on the roster represent the best group to go into the regular season.
I doubt
