NFL Not Letting Seau's Daughter Speak

KWALL2 : 7/28/2015 2:25 pm
The NFL is saying it has nothing to do with his death, head injuries, or the Seau family lawsuit. They are saying it's about the ceremony going too long and the current policy of the HOF. Do you believe it?

If the intention is to reduce the spotlight on head injuries I think the NFL is blowing this one. It will get 10x the press now that they are denying his daughter the chance to speak at the HOF ceremony.

According to her attorney, the NFL initially said she could speak but now they won't let it happen. They are now saying she can take part of the video of Seau's career.

If she doesn't speak this will now be the focus of the 2015 HOF ceremony and we'll be seeing a lot of his daughter in the next month.

I listened to a bit of Rich Eisen's show

He said that the rule about posthumous inductions was created in 2010. There were two posthumous inductions the previous year, Bob Hayes and Derrick Thomas. The presenters for those two, Roger Staubach and Carl Peterson, were told that they had five minutes to speak. Staubach spoke for five minutes, then Peterson spoke for 26 minutes. After that, they went to the videotaped presentations.
So....

the speakers go over their time when only speaking for the dead guys. Is that it?
There was another

player before Seau who got in and had a video taped presentation. So there is set example for it. It's not like the NFL is doing this for Seau for other reasons. I don't think the NFL is out of line on this issue.
If I was another inductee

I'd give her my time slot...
It might be the headlines today
Rocky369 : 7/28/2015 3:10 pm : link
but it sets the precedent moving forward where you won't make the same headlines down the road. I don't see a problem with this.

This is disgraceful on the NFL's part. The NFL just doesn't want her to rip them.

Every NFL fan should give a shit about this.
the rule was in place long before she asked to speak, though

According to Eisen, when Les Richter was inducted posthumously in 2011, his son asked to speak but was turned down due to the same rule.

It sets the precedent in the future for HOF inductees who had brain issues, died, and the family has a lawsuit against the NFL at the time of the ceremony?
she should have her own

press conference. But the NFL would probably pressure ESPN and others to not cover it.
if those are the words

that you elect to put in my mouth, then sure

why should I care? I'm probably coming off as combative but I seriously dont get it.
Given the sensitive nature of Seau's passing...

...she should be given opportunity to speak to her father's illustrious career.
Yea she should get a chance to speak
RobCrossRiver56 : 7/28/2015 5:26 pm : link
but the NFL probably does not want the induction to become a soap box for player related injuries that can cause a person to commit suicide.

The pre-taped video is safe and it focuses on his playing career and accomplishments.

Do they really think she would rip them? I would like to think that she waould take the time (5 minutes?) and just honor her father - especially if it is only 5 minutes.
