San Diego Padres & #8207;@Padres 4m4 minutes ago
First game of the road trip kicks off this afternoon as James Shields & the Padres take on the Mets. Today's lineup:
is Conforto, Kirk, and Granderson. The bench is Johnson, Lagares, and soon Cuddyer as well.
The only player that does't belong is possibly Kirk if you can upgrade CF but as far as depth and 4th and 5th options I think we are good.
Just the way I look at it now.
I wouldn't rely on anything at all from Cuddyer the rest of the way. CF is 100% upgradeable. And it's not like we have so many studs in the CO spots that we just cannot afford to add someone. If the opportunity presents itself it would still be a good idea.
I would agree if you are referring to Upton or Cespedes or Bruce but a Byrd isn't that big of an upgrade in a corner anymore. And I still absolutely think Cuddyer will be a nice platoon player/bench piece. He still has hit 7 homeruns. Cuddyer will be what Mayberry was supposed to be on steroids and Im fine with him in that role. Still a huge disappointment overall but also still a huge upgrade over Mayberry/Cambell as far as the bench.
RE: That's the problem, a 2nd/3rd tier OFer only helps if he can play CF
Forget Cuddyer. Use him as a backup 1B. And the guy gets hurt so often that he may not even make it back for the long haul.
I'm not even advocating we sign Byrd as much as I'm saying it would be better than just doing nothing. I obviously want one of the other guys.. especially one who can man CF.
It's going to be hard for me to accept Uribe, Johnson and Clippard as "the moves". The Nats have Rendon, Zimmerman and Werth back now and just got better in the pen.. we aren't going to leapfrog them unless we add one more piece. TdA will help. Can he stay healthy? Who knows. Anything we get from DW is a bonus. Can't expect anything from him.

I'm so pissed off at Mejia suspension. He has undermined the team again and completely negated the Tyler Clippard trade. Cut his ass now!!!

Yeah, but ...

Just for the record, Jenrry Mejia is still eligible for the 2016 postseason. #Mets (probably not in 2016, though.)
Don't get me wrong. I like Byrd, but adding him and I guess cutting Kirk? Demoting Conforto? Doesn't make a lot of sense. CF is a bigger priority IMO unless you are bringing a game changer in which case you then MAKE it work.

The Mets received some more encouraging news on the injury front on Tuesday.
Steven Matz has been shutdown for nearly three weeks since the discovery or a torn lay muscle in his left side.
Matz visited with team doctors during Mondays off-day, and Sandy Alderson said the tear has improved, although he will undergo another examination next week before determining the next step.
Matz has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 10, retroactive to July 6. There is still no timetable for Matz to begin a throwing program.
they made two good moves and in order to make trades they have to make sense and benefit both sides....so if they can't get another bat it doesn't mean they didn't seek a player but couldn't work out a deal. Wouldn't you much rather they not part with certain guys than just give up a lot for a possible rental? They've shown that they are not averse to making moves so if they can't find a match does that automatically make them "wrong" somehow ? I don't agree with that at all...only make a move if it's the right move
Well of course they aren't averse to making moves...
...neither one of these moves have cost the front office a dime. What team would be in that situation?
The first 2 moves were good ones. But these guys are all rentals too. So you're telling the fans you're picking these guys up because you think you can make the postseason this year otherwise there's no reason to make them.
Problem is, it's still not going to be enough. And not all of the available players are rentals. Neither Bruce or Gomez would be rental players.
plus getting TDA, Matz, and hopefully Wright back will be enough to give us a shot this year which is what I wanted.... also while maintaining the kids for 2016-2018. That said, I still am holding out hope that we acquire somebody like Parra.
NEW YORK -- The New York Mets were engaged in trade talks concerning Troy Tulowitzki, Mets GM Sandy Alderson said Tuesday.
Tulowitzki, the slugging but injury-prone shortstop in the second year of a seven-year, $132 million contract, was dealt by the Colorado Rockies to the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
"Our conversations [with the Rockies regarding Tulowitzki] involved more than an inquiry on our part, it went further than that," Alderson said. "But beyond that I just cant comment."
The GM admitted he was "a little surprised" when he learned of the Tulowitzki trade. But the Mets may still add another hitter before the July 31 trade deadline.
"Were still talking [to other teams]," Alderson said. "Ive been hesitant to make predictions in the past, and will continue to be hesitant to do so. Theres still a few days to go. Well continue to talk, and well see where it takes us."
I wanted to like Tejada. he had a really good season for a 22 year old.
but he was publicly trashed by the FO in 2013 for coming in out of shape and not working hard and since then he's been a whipping boy (and he's deserved it), but you have to admit he's playing well lately.
and Ive bashed him as much as anyone. Im not the type to cut my nose to spite my face however. I still have my doubts but as long as he keeps hitting and doesn't go into one of his infamous "Tejada slumps" he can keep playing SS for a while. Don't have an issue with it.
These 4 guys have been among the most impressive rookie pitchers
How great it would be for both he and the Mets if he turns around his career and we see more of what we saw his first couple of seasons from him from here on out.
He was very young and was following a star in Reyes, he very well maybe took it all for granted. I don't think he will ever take it for granted again.

Yeah me too. Times were rough enough back then that I actually really was excited about him and thought he could be a really good SS. Things have changed a bit since but he's still very young.
when they made the Dickey trade. It actually happened
I thought most expectation at the time of the trade was for TDA and Thor was the extra player.
No. Syndergaard was a main component. TDA was already agreed. Sandy was insisting on Syndergaard. Blue Jays tried to get Sandy to go for other players and Sandy stayed stead fast and said he wanted Syndergaard. Beccerra was the third upside prospect. I still can't believe that trade actually.

With Parra you get defense and you cross your fingers this is a breakout year as opposed to a Xavier Nady-esque flash in the pan.
At this point adding a big bat is the only thing that could have a big impact. All of them just make the defensive alignment somewhat odd.
Yeah this is where I am kind of at. Parra still makes the most sense.

wRC+ 113. And Kelly Johnson is on the bench.

per Anthony DiComo om twitter
Who the fuck would trade for a player JUST coming off an 80 game suspension??
Or just stopped responding to 12.
Most of us have learned to just ignore it.
