NFT: Met fans- which pitcher has the highest ceiling?

Headhunter : 7/29/2015 7:50 am
everyone is healthy, everyone is completely back to pre surgery strength and command. I don't know, I go back and forth on all 5 of them. They each
can make a case for being the best on this staff. Who has the highest ceiling?

I think something like that
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 4:11 pm : link
would be almost impossible to pull off. You almost never see three team trades with players of that magnitude going in different directions.

Wheeler and Cecchini to Detroit, Price to the Dodgers, Puig to the Mets, see it's that easy! #Mets

We talked about 3 teams yesterday (I think it was Shecky?) but he said our FO just isn't creative enough - I actually think something like that makes a lot of sense though. Though I'd want to swap in Nimmo for Cecchini.

As would I but we have enough pitching to roll the dice on an UBER talent like Puig. This team could use some swag, some flavor, some gusto amongst the position players. Signed through 2019. Fun to watch. DO IT!
I think Puig
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 4:16 pm : link
would take a Syndergaard level player. They aren't giving away Puig for a broken down Wheeler and a few middling prospects I fear.

Dodgers
Metnut : 7/29/2015 4:17 pm : link
can get a good bit more than rental Price for Puig and his contract. We'd probably have to add another significant piece that went to LAD.

I'd still consider doing it.
Also Detroit
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 4:17 pm : link
can't offer Cespedes a QO so they pretty much HAVE to deal him.
If the SFG swipe Hamels & the NYY drive up bidding for Price, LAD may
Eric on Li : 7/29/2015 4:17 pm : link
get desperate. The 3 teams kind of fall apart though because the other team would likely rather just take on Puig themselves.
Shields for Puig
Shecky : 7/29/2015 4:28 pm : link
Makes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much sense for both teams. What am I missing, other than the geography thing?
If
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2015 4:29 pm : link
I'm the Dodgers I'm not giving up cheap Puig for Shields and 3 years 65 million owed
.
arcarsenal : 7/29/2015 4:31 pm : link
I would be furious with that return for Puig if I were a Dodger fan.
Shields three years ago as part of a Puig deal made sense
Torrag : 7/29/2015 4:32 pm : link
Shields today? Not.

I normally like to take a long view of things and not be shortsighted, but you've got Harvey, DeGrom, Syndergaard, and Matz under team control for a while. Would you really miss Fulmer?

An asset is worth what an asset is worth. Fulmer is not less valuable simply because we have lots of good SPs already. He is more tradable because of that reason, but not less valuable.

Also, Fulmer might not debut until 2017. 2018 if he gets hurt (remember, he's only 22).
IMO,
Metnut : 7/29/2015 4:44 pm : link
I'd rather deal Wheeler than Fulmer. It'd be nice to have another bigtime pitcher come up who is a few years behind on the arb/fa clock than the rest of the pitchers.

Would Wheeler/Fulmer have similiar value around to other teams?

A MLB exec on Gerardo Parra: "I wonder if the Brewers over-played their hand on him. I just expected him to be gone by now.''
That would be funny (Brewers / Parra)
Eric on Li : 7/29/2015 4:57 pm : link
I could see that because I don't think anyone out there is going to view him as an impact player. And obviously anyone looking for an impact rental has bigger fish to go after.
there ya go

#Mets leverage with Parra and Will Venable enhanced by other deals. #Royals and #Angels no longer have openings for LH OF bats.

Thats why I thought his value would fall by Friday. I think we are going to see a lot of movement at the last minute this year.
Meisner for a Parra rental was fair value
Torrag : 7/29/2015 5:06 pm : link
I said earlier and re-iterate I hope the trade carousel comes to a halt and Milwaukee is left empty handed. Now Meisner 'bullet' has been spent so that potential deal has evaporated..
Brewers
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2015 5:07 pm : link
and Tigers have some level of pressure to deal their guys. Though, if the Brewers are of the belief this is the real Parra they could always offer him the QO. Gomez on the other hand, no reason to change their ask.

I think somebody like
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 5:12 pm : link
Gsellman and maybe another interesting piece would be fair for Parra. I still think Nimmo or especially Fulmer is too much.
Venable
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2015 5:15 pm : link
stinks and Gsellman is a lesser prospect than Meisner so if that's what the brewers do they screwed up.
Heyman now calling it a buyer's market
Eric on Li : 7/29/2015 5:15 pm : link
looks like we should be able to land someone, will just come down to how much Sandy is willing to give/who they think fits best. Gomez has long been #1 on that list for me but seems like the Brewers aren't going to their ask for him from anyone. I'd still guess Parra is the most likely acquisition.

We are assuming if the Brewers overplayed their hand and the price drops. I don't think they have a prayer at getting Fulmer and out of the first round picks Nimmo is the only one they'd have a shot at. Don't think Sandy does that either. Gsellman/Cessa and Reynolds. Take it or leave it. Something like that.
48 hour prediction
Eric on Li : 7/29/2015 5:17 pm : link
Gselleman & Reynolds for Parra.
Parra
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2015 5:20 pm : link
sounds like the best odds of happening. Having a big year, just hope he can keep it up. Literally 0 interest in Venable.
Reportedly multiple teams were in on Parra
Torrag : 7/29/2015 5:21 pm : link
It's hard to find a scenario where Gselleman/Reynolds is the best offer they'll receive. Meisner was a good fit and they got greedy.
I
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2015 5:24 pm : link
think it's going to cost more than that. I'll say Montero for Parra is the deal.
Eh its a too month rental
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 5:24 pm : link
If your giving up a coupe guys like that it ends up worth it either way IMO. How much worst could he be? I think he'd at least contribute in the OF mix and give us an intriguing option at the top of the lineup. If he goes cold you just go in a different direction in the offseason. Not going to cry over a Gsellman type but Nimmo I might.

Sure but now we are hearing that many teams are no longer in the Parra sweepstakes. They may have overplayed their hand. We'll see.

Sure, I agree. But if Sandy ends up with more leverage than anticipated maybe he can come up with a lesser combination. I don't know. Wont be terribly upset if we lost Montero either.
Montero for Parra is an overpay imo
Torrag : 7/29/2015 5:29 pm : link
but not by a lot. How much organizational SP depth do we want to adios for rentals? I'm on the fence with that scenario.
Wonder if they would consider
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 5:29 pm : link
somebody like Flores. Id hate to give him up for Parra but I don't see a huge future with this team anymore.
You made this up...

[quote]Sure but now we are hearing that many teams are no longer in the Parra sweepstakes.[/quote[

There is a general feeling this has become more of a buyers market. I haven't read or seen a reference to the Parra situation specifically. As usual you craft the dialogue to suit your position.
Id really rather offer somebody
ZGiants98 : 7/29/2015 5:31 pm : link
like Rosario who is a sexy name, is cracking top 100 and 50 boards, but might be a bit overrated. His projection is based on his tools but it really hasn't materialized yet. He also has Cecchini above him and a million SS behind him. Wouldn't hurt the Mets at all IMO.

Figures.
Flores
DanMetroMan : 7/29/2015 5:33 pm : link
hasn't been good and more importantly is out of options. He could be a second piece but that's about it.
After parting with a pitching prospect I agree...
Torrag : 7/29/2015 5:34 pm : link
I'd prefer to move a piece like Rosario for Parra instead of another arm. I readily admit ranking young positional talent in the pipeline is guesswork on my part.
