I can confirm that my bro Jake indeed visited NY today. When we were kids the #Gmen were his team on Madden, could see him in the big apple!

Yes, Chris Long and Jake Long are not brothers.
Jake is visiting with Giants as I type this. He may or may not have played as NYG on Madden.
This is hilarious.
FWIW, Long played RT his first two years at Michigan.
all signs point to EF as the LT of the future, the question was only when and WB's pec answered that.
Now, it's up to EF to stick, of course but they're trying to establish the best OL and avoid musical chairs. That's been the whole point of setting the left side of the OL and set up competition for RT.
I see what Raanan means about him being a mess before the ACLs,
Shoulder... Toe... Ankle... Foot... Back... Biceps... then the two knee blowouts. All after very nearly dying in a fire after his redshirt freshman year.
They could go either way with Long but moving Flowers back to RT doesn't "slow his development". It's whatever the best ft is given Long's current abilities.
RE: RE: Well, the reason to move Flowers to RT is if they thought
he was best suited there in the long term anyway and only put him at LT out of necessity.
Wrong, he's a LT long term, that's been said repeatedly by too many in this organization for you to make this mistake.
I was wrong on this initially and have come around. I thought the early indications by scouts and the giants were that Flowers was a RT long term. That has been hashed out already. They obviously viewed him as the LT for long term future and Beatty's injury just moved that time table up. If Long is deemed healthy enough to play, it will only be a question of whether or not he can outplay Newhouse for RT during the summer.
if Long is healthy he adds good competition for the RT spot

I must have missed some affirmations that he was the LT of the future. I remember a lot of "he can play left, he can play right" statements by the personnel folks after the draft, which I took to be more non-committal than indicative. But perhaps I didn't pay close enough attention when reading the tea leaves.
I'm not saying that he's a RT or a LT. I won't have a strong feeling until I see him playing some NFL snaps. If the Giants think that he's the LT of the future, then sure it's probably best to get him climbing that learning curve now. But if they viewed him as the next Kareem McKenzie and LT was just the best option they had currently then it would make sense to move him to RT if a suitable replacement is found at LT (like a healthy Long - if that's possible).
you don't need him to hold up for a full season as Beatty will be back mid way through the year. You hope he can give you some respectable games while Flowers acclimates and buys you some time until Beatty gets back.
I've said this many times, you can scheme around 1 bad OL, specifically a tackle by chipping with the TE and RB, but you cannot scheme around 2 bad OL.
Get this done Jerry.
I do not believe Erick Flowers is on this roster at that draft slot
They have spoken repeatedly that they believe he's a LT in waiting. That's the position potential that sold them on drafting him. If Beatty had been healthy, Beatty was just keeping the seat warm for Flowers regardless.
Someone please answer if they can. Even getting healthy in Oct will Beatty be able to contribute this year? To me torn peck=no weights. How long until his strength returns? Plus if flowers isn't just absolutely sucking ass at LT can Beatty play rt?

He won't be in condition to play, and most people seem to think strength and power wasn't exactly his strong point anyway. It's an injury that throws his year off course.
Unfortunately, I think RT would be a worse position for him. Traditionally, RT is a pure power position. You put your biggest, strongest mauler at RT to be an anchor in the run-game. That was never Beatty's brand of football.

Conditioning faster than strength. I would think his injury shouldn't prevent him from working on it. Also should be able to work on leg strength.
Obviously, it's going to affect his play but don't think the year is a total loss. He's going to lose strength but he's an athlete and has probably been working out since HS with limited breaks. These guys have a tendency to lose strength not as fast as the average person.
The fact that his game has been more technique than power might be a help even if he plays RT. Pugh was competent at RT.
and Mosely is still on scholarship. Newhouse was cheap and
At first glance, you'd expect Long to be worth more than J.D. Walton, right? Walton hadn't played in two years, wasn't that good in Denver when he did play, and still wound up pocketing about $3MM for one season of lousy work at center.
The tricky part is that Walton was conceded a starting job, and got starter money. That turned out to be a mistake, but it did influence his valuation. If Long is just coming in to compete for a position, his contract might be more in the Robert Ayers neighborhood.
He visited the Bills today and said he isn't going to make a decision yet because he is scheduled to meet a few more teams. I am just hoping that Mosley stays healthy and wins the RT spot either way because that would be a huge boost from a player who many had left for dead last year.
a certain starter with some decent money. We are probably presenting okay money and a "chance" to win the RT job. And a chance factors into how much we pay.
Long I am sure is doing the circuit to see who he can get the best deal from, as anyone would.
if he misses a couple days of camp so what, he's a veteran and can pick it up. Meet with all the teams, get your price as high as you can (missing a couple days of camp may be appealing to him), and then sign.
Also gives the Giants a couple days to realize how bad Newhouse is and further drive up his price.
for Long for two reasons:
a) They are a win now team
b) They have more cap space than the giants (+2 million)
Falcons have the most cap space though with $16 million, so they can price everyone out if they want him. I don't think this counts the Giants out they unless someone throws crazy money at a guy you don't want to throw crazy money at. Cap Space - ( New Window )

Of course with the JPP money the Giants suddenly have the most cap space out of the 3 as they would jump to over $19 million.

Gives NYG additional option at OT. Insurance if Flowers struggles on the left side. Would mean Pugh could stay at LG.
If so let me know and I'll clear my afternoon schedule.

He should fit right in!

Jake Long isn't likely to change that, we'd be fortunate if he wins the RT gig over Newhouse.

Get some depth by signing Jake and Mathis
Is there anyone out there on the bubble defense wise to add some depth?

I agree. With our bad health luck, we can use the insurance. What are we going to do if Pugh or Flowers get injured?

I agree, I don't see Beatty as an effective RT.
He was injured and couldn't pass a physical.
Jake Long is coming back from injury rehab and could not pass a physical previously.
You're assuming its because no team has tried to sign him. Could be he's not signing until he checks out all possibilities
He still remains in play for the Giants but wants to explore all options before making a decision. In no rush
That's paraphrased from RV.

The door remains open for the Giants to sign Long, I'm told, but he is planning to consider his options and not rush to pick a team.
That's a much better situation for a guy with not much time left than here.

Except he may be interested in playing. Probably a better chance of that here.

Clady tore his ACL back in May.
They have an opening for a starter, assuming he shows above replacement level.
Then I've got some good news for him...
