Launches today. I actually already have the download queued up on my laptop. Pretty unprecedented move by Microsoft offering the OS upgrade for free, which is cool . . . but it also makes me nervous. But I also hate Windows 8 enough to throw caution to the wind and upgrade asap. Anyone else planning on taking the early plunge?
Nice to have the Start button back without having to install Classic Shell
Combines the app look with the File Explorer look.
I'm excited for the launch of Windows 10 and what Microsoft has cooked up.
My laptop was running 8.1

Same boat here.
Im keeping 7 on the desktop but will be putting 10 on the laptop.
May wait a week or 2 though.
Windows 10 - ( New Window )
I'm on the upgrade list as well. As others have said, if I had Windows 7, I'd wait. Since I'm on 8.1 at home, I want to flush that piece of crap OS off my machine as quickly as possible.
Hopefully Microsoft's "every other OS is good" will hold true:
XP - Very good
Vista - bad
Windows 7 - good
Windows 8 - horrific
Windows 10 - ???
If Windows 10 kills my machine, I guess I could also unbox my original Intel 8088 IBM PC from 1983 that's in the loft in my garage and fire up DOS.
Nothing got deleted. All of my files are intact.
Also, updates and fixes will be delivered rapidly, like never before. Since this is the "last" version of Windows, in that it can just be continuously updated.
It's solid. There is no reason to not upgrade ASAP.
Nothing. The personal folder structure is the same as it's been since Vista.
whenever it notifies me I'm going to install.
Seems like a good successor to Windows 7.
Its still there a bit, but much less so. Metro apps open in windows. The task view and multiple desktop modes are long overdue.
And I really like the new start menu.
I did have 2 issues, my touchpad drivers and my touchscreen drivers did not update. They did not work after the update and I had to go to the Acer website to manually install the updates. Not a big deal to me, but novices will be frustrated by things like that.
I have Windows 7. I am happy with it and fear that I may regret Windows 10 because my computer is probably 3 years old now and may not have the resources to run it well.

It will download in the background autotmatically, I believe, but you will have control over if/when the upgrade is installed.

You'll be given the option at the time your reserve is tagged to begin upgrading, from what I understand.

Same here. Is it going to take a ton more resources than Win 7?

will it give me a chance to say yes or no when the download is ready or will it install by itself either overnight or in background without my knowing?

Probably less. Windows 7 was terrible at managing resources, much worse than Windows 8 after it. If you're running Win7 right now and have been running it for a while, go check out the size of your WIndows\WinSXS folder. Yikes!
Is this an issue with the PC? Or is it possible the rollout hasn't gotten to this product yet?
Long boot? Aw shit, I was afraid of that. My desktop boots in about 15 seconds right now and most of that is POST and card BIOS stuff.

Easy download and installation. Works smoothly and is quick. Long boot, though. Had Windows 7 Pro before. Office 2007 working, too. Norton does not like Edge (the replacement for Explorer). Chrome still works just as it did before.

Haven't timed it but it feels three times as long as that.
I haven't noticed any slowness at all, even on start up. But it's a pretty fast PC.
How to download Windows 10 ISO files - ( New Window )
I downloaded yesterday and it seemed fine. But when I truned on laptop today issues all over.
I cant open Outlook13, Adobe isnt working, I cant open Windows live mail.. what do I do?
Thanks. The problem is when I search for updates on the computer, it always says there is an error. I brought my laptop to work to make sure it wasn't the wifi in my house or something and the same issue is happening here.

I have Windows 8.1 that came with the system I recently purchased. Do I have to upgrade immediately or very soon because the offer will expire or run out? I don't mind 8.1 and would rather wait a bit before I make the move.
Also - why 8.1 to 10? Does Microsoft has a thing with the number 9?

Relax - you have 1 year to upgrade.
As for the version number, Microsoft hasn't given a clear answer. The most likely reason I've heard is that the Windows 95/98 series was commonly called Windows 9x, and calling this one 9 might bring confusion. Some old software programs out there might even be flummoxed by a verson number 9.

Thanks Jim ... !
I think I am going to wait a little bit longer.
Thanks Enoch.
