So on Sept 24, we could conceivably see the Skins playing in their red jerseys while we wear blue jerseys at the same time. Teams can opt out this year, but it will be mandatory beginning in 2016.
Would be pretty cool to see, but there could be some confusion, say, if the Bills play us at MetLife on a Thursday. Also would be pretty tough on the eyes to watch an orange vs. a red jersey matchup, I'd think.

I would think if teams have the same / similar colors, one team would have to wear an alternate, color uniform (e.g. the Giants in red if the team they were playing was also med/dark blue).
Money. #1 driver of the league...
Like, what's the appeal? I don't see how it's selling more jerseys, gaining more of an audience or accomplishing anything at all. It's just another one of those gimmicky things the NFL is doing that does nothing for the game itself.
it was due to some mixup as to who the home team was
my vague memory says this happened in the late 70s- early 80s
What I find more puzzling than the NFL going forward with this is the absurd reaction that some have shown in this thread.
Who gives a shit if they both wear colors? How does it warrant an "OH MY GOD WHY????" reaction?
Even if it's change just for change, it has no impact than just looking cool and making some fans potentially take more pride in their teams colors.
Don't see this as some indication of the downfall of the NFL like some others.
I'm missing the "cool" aspect here.

I don't really see anyone responding this way. I just can't figure out what the point is. This is really exciting to people? It's the same uniforms they see all the time anyway. I am trying really hard to see the appeal here and I just don't.
And the 49ers and Skins uniform colors are not red - they are officially listed as burgundy last I looked.
Does anyone really go "Aw shit, my team is in white today. What a snoozefest"?
Yep, the Orange Crush unis were timeless classics. The current ones are so dated now. They scream Nineties.
It's a nice change of pace and visual.

Looking "pretty sweet" or looking "cool" is obviously entirely subjective, maybe some fans will like it and some fans won't ... a matter of taste. Balance that against the very obvious logic of making it very much easier for a QB (say, Giants) under pressure to be able to instantly distinguish his receivers from the DBs (say, Bills). So although its really minor, it comes down to potentially impacting the quality of the game as opposed to "looking cool". Although I imagine there is some segment of the fan base for whom "looking cool" is more important.

Steelers, Raiders, Ravens, Saints and Falcons in black would work. Especially match ups with both teams having black helmets
Awesome idea NFL. I'm sure the refs won't be confused either.
GUD - Color vs Color - ( New Window )
Larry, cool link- thanks. I don't really (personally) count the Seahawks' and Patriots' light gray jerseys as 'color', so you have to look back to the 2010 Thanksgiving day game for the last 'real' color v. color matchup...Pats in throwback red v. Lions in throwback blue.
