Tom Coughlin Comments on JPP and other issues with Vrentas

VRENTAS: So you haven’t been able to speak to Pierre-Paul?

COUGHLIN: No. No. I want to help. I want to be there for him. But he’s decided that he doesn’t want our help. He thinks that something will come of it. But, all I care about, all any of us care about, the whole organization, is the well-being of the kid. Something traumatic has taken place here, and we have all kinds of experts here in this city that are at our disposal. Putting those things together is very easy.

We are very lucky ...

To have this man as our HC of our NYG's, where have the past 10+ seasons gone ... JPP is done here in NYC, he has and continues to disrespect the franchise ... Let him and his "handlers" figure out what to do from here on out ...

and committed to the truth, I'm afraid that I would state that I would like to smack him alongside of his head, kick him in the ass and tell him to get real or get the hell out.

Really? Is that what you would do to your child after he or she had blown up a hand so badly in an accident that she/he needed a finger amputated and skin grafts?

Think about that a bit.

A 26 year old child with a potential $60 M contract and a $15 M Tag Offer who plays with explosives?
Give me a break!!!!

A) That doesn't change anything regarding the blown up hand, and TC's vs your reaction to it.

B) Maybe (and I am pretty sure this is what JPP's agent is telling him) the $60 million didn't look very good compared to what JPP thought he could get on the open market, w/out the franchise tag slapped on him? Depends on what the guaranteed money offer was, really. And now that's gone, a pipe dream.
More like a pipebomb dream.

That is a great freaking interview.

TC really opened up fully, didn't hold anything back.

Yeah, he's simply an amazing man. Good luck to Mara replacing him, seriously. I wouldn't be in such a rush.
I cannot believe JPP is getting his medical care in a FL hospital...
EricJ : 7/30/2015 8:33 am : link
he may as well be sitting in an Urgent Care location somewhere. FL does not have the world's best surgeons. They will keep him a live down there but I would not have trusted a FL surgeon to operate on his hand.

My mother lives down there. She had a serious medical issue and we pulled her out of the hospital there and transported her to NYC. Seems like JPP should have been at least looking for a specialist somewhere on earth other than FL.

Probably at the local walk in care
I have to say I love the guy too.

And for the same reasons as many of us here. For who he is as a person, as a coach, as a patriot, as a man who knows he does not know it all and that even he has room to grow and continue to learn more. He works so hard at his craft to improve himself each and every day. Add to that, a man who can admit he can be wrong and is willing to change and adapt and you have one of the greatest coaches this league will ever see and surely a hall of famer!

I'm very much into history and specifically WWII history and I've read Churchill, Eisenhower, Bradley, and Patton and I like that Tom studies that stuff looking for messages for the team. Those guys were up against with life and death on the line and a fantastic place to find inspirations. I have to say though, as open and great as this interview was, 85% of what you learn about Tom in this interview is also in the very good books he's written.

God bless you Tom!
RE: As good an interview of TC as I've ever seen or read.

If that was the media TC we always got it would make this fan real pleased.

You have to put things in context. This interview was obviously at a time when TC felt he had the time to do it. 99% of the time when the media interviews him it is immediately after a practice or a game when he has a million mental notes in his head that he probably can't wait to start working on. Plus, lets face it, the media are experts at making even most tame lion roar with their repeated questions and stupid questions that really don't matter.

She conducted the interview perfectly. One question about JPP and then moved on. As someone pointed out previously on BBI, just wait till after the first practice session when TC will be repeatedly bombarded with questions about JPP. He's going to say he knows nothing else but the JPP questions will continue to come until he has to put someone in their place.
I agree JPP hasn't handled this well at all
djm : 7/30/2015 12:10 pm : link
but this whole thing has most definitely not reached the point of no return. MGMT and players fight and blow up all the time only to reconcile. If JPP can find his way back and play well for 12-14 games and the Giants want to pay him long term all will be forgiven and everyone will live happily ever after.

Some of you have short memories. Players and mgmt battle all the time. You know what fixes everything? Winning and the money that follows. No one will care if JPP plays well this season. And he might.
nothing said by the Giants
fkap : 7/30/2015 12:52 pm : link
about JPP (or usually, in general) is unscripted.

I believe what they're saying, in this case, but they're saying it for a reason. It's to put heat on JPP, and to warm up the public to when they say so long.
Other than the classless Phil Simms cut,
Big Blue '56 : 7/30/2015 12:56 pm : link
the Giants have been very fair and thoughtful with their players, agenda or no agenda imo
Giants have been very classy
fkap : 7/30/2015 1:18 pm : link
they've also been very business like. They have class. they can also be straight up business.

JPP will end up being business. He's made huge dollars so far. He decided to not accept a long term contract. He decided to play with fireworks. and now he's being uncooperative with the team. They hold his rights, but he won't sign the tender.

Giants are making it clear JPP is the one in the wrong. They'll make it look classy, but they are setting the stage to say goodbye. At the same time, the door is always open for the two sides to come to an agreement.
