Price is biggest piece. Could hurt #Phillies attempt to get Hamels done. #Yankees #Dodgers #Astros #Bluejays #Cubs #Sfgiants are Price mkt
#Mets get associated with Cespedes but wonder if Rajai Davis more realistic get from #Tigers
Davis plays all 3 OF spots, can start for Grandy v. tough LH, adds speed element off bench #Mets lack.

Source says there has been "much" recent talk between the Mets and Brewers.
Only two possibilities here. Gomez or Parra. Ill take either and be pretty damn happy.
If its Gomez, I wonder if they can get them to accept Lagares in the trade. His extension looks like a disaster right now.
Ive long hoped that in a Gomez trade Lagares would be going the other way. If the deal is for Parra Im cool keeping Lagares because he's ok against lefties and we would need his defense late in games. I also still think Lagares/Nimmo could work out in 2016 in a platoon. But yeah, if Gomez is our new CF for the next 14 months or so ship Lagares out.
Ron and others feel that like Harvey, he is much better on a normal 5 days rest. He was really good his last outing. Lets hope this continues a little longer.
is he has been completely lost for two months. Like "Duda lost" before he just hit the three homeruns. Not sure you give up prospects for a 2 month rental that also couldn't hit a beach ball with a whiffle bat right now.
He's 33 points below his career low OPS this season. That in turn is 15 points below his previous low. I'd still push real hard for him before committing to Parra. He's more talented and has had the better career.
On the flip side Parra is a better fit to bat leadoff and contribute in CF.
Both catapult us into position to win a playoff spot. If Upton gets hot he could be the catalyst we need to contend for a championship.
The idea Upton could be had for Montero is laughable

RE: The idea Upton could be had for Montero is laughable
Everyone knows my stance on needing to make one more move and I'd rather do absolutely nothing than trade something for him.
Well the bigger piece in that is simply that Kirk is likely better if he's hitting again. Venable isn't terrible but Krik had a wRC+ of 130 last year and plays a stellar CF.
That's your MO and probably a side effect of your meds.
Valuations on position prospects is tricky when they are in the early development stages. It doesn't surprise me you consider yourself an expert. I await your hiring as a MLB executive with baited breath. You let us know when to forward the congratulatory note.

Who the fuck are you even talking about? Upton? Parra? What an embarrassment you have become to yourself and everyone here. Completely pathetic. Im glad Ive had such an effect on you though.. Thats clearly rewarding in its own right.
That tweet doesn't make me feel like it's Parra. Maybe the Brewers saw how they potentially overplayed their hand on Parra and are going to lower the ask on Gomez

..to find a single credible source that shares the opinion that Rafael Montero for a Justin Upton rental would get the deal done.
The problem is it's so stupid and unrealistic only you could come up with it.
We were talking about a fucking "buy low" you moron. Anything MORE than Montero level prospects is no longer a "buy low" but once again your reading comprehension is on par with a third grader.
If it's Upton or Gomez then we landed a 'big fish'...

Really think Upton is the guy thats going to get us all excited though? Id like him in the mix and hope for the best but he's been TERRIBLE. I know I wouldn't be throwing a party thats for sure.

I think Upton is definitely in play for us. Sandy has wanted him going back to AZ days. For his career he's the best pure hitter available, though the possible oblique injury is concerning. Just not sure where we'd play him.
Ive long said Sandy LOVES him, but is that the BIG move that gets the fan base excited?? I don't know. Maybe if they sign him to an extension or something. He's been so bad for 2 months now I wouldn't be over the moon if we got him. Id probably be at least as excited if we got Parra if not more.
I think Met fans would be pretty excited if Justin Upton was heading to Queens. Realistically, I would think he, Bruce and Gomez are the 3 guys who would really "excite" fans. People would be happy about Parra but it'd be a notch below.
I don't know if Cespedes is in play or not but I think the reports that we're out on him are probably pretty legit. Doesn't seem like a fit.
There could be a dark horse player out there though.. it could be none of those guys. I really don't know.
I am just really happy that Sandy is clearly trying to make something happen here and feel confident we are getting one more bat.
Position with Upton is a concern with the logjam at the COF spots
He's not available dee[ into nmext season with hsi rehab. Harvey, DeGrom and Thor have all passed him imo. Matz is ready. Fulmer should both be in contention for a rotation spot next year.

Id agree with you if Upton was hitting. I have to put him a notch below Gomez, Tulo, Cespedes types currently however until he busts out. Id probably have him and Parra about even(again considering the brutal slump) Like I said. A great buy low, and Id love to add him to the mix, but not sure Id be doing cartwheels as bad as he's been.
Z you're probably the only Met fan alive that wouldn't get excited over a Justin Upton deal. You're embarrassing yourself.
Oh Im glad after using the word embarrassment when describing your behavior lately you thought outside of the box and said I was embarrassing myself. LOL

I agree. Yes, Parra would allow us to move Grandy to the 2-3 spot, but I just think Upton is not as bad as the past two months. A move could just be what he needs to turn things around, and when he does, he can bring what Cuddyer was meant to do for us and much more.
I'd be okay if we include Fulmer in a package, but would be a lot more content if we secured him to a long term deal as opposed to just a rental.
He obviously won't impact this season and next season it's very debateable he will be able to contribute much more given the likely rust from TJS and 1 year off.
Compared to someone like Fulmer he should have more trade value externally, but for our own internal valuation purposes he's going to start getting expensive way before Fulmer does and he's also already shown as good as his stuff may be he isn't on the level of the true big 3 whereas Fulmer could just be developing later like Matz. I wouldn't deal him for a rental but for Puig or Gomez, absolutely.
You're putting too much stock in the last few months.
Look at track records. Justin Upton has a much larger sample of being a very good/excellent player than Parra does. 2015 has been a real outlier for Parra offensively and is unlikely to hold. Who knows when the other shoe drops.
My money would be on Upton snapping out of his funk and being a better player down the stretch rather than Parra continuing to hit around .320.

Totally reasonable but your talking about two players with completely different circumstances. Upton has been HORRIBLE for two months and you might be able to get him for LESS. Parra is having a career year and would easily be the best hitter on our team so you are likely paying MORE. Add it all up and the package for either is probably comparable.
I'd take Upton over Parra 10x out of 10 right now if close in cost

Sure but even a lesser version of Parra still is likely comparable to Upton for the rest of the season even if Upton bounces back. I honestly think they are pretty comparable as far as what they would add to the lineup and thats only because Parra has been THAT good. If your talking about which player will be better over the next few years, I would easily take Upton but we are only talking about 2 months here.
regardless of their numbers. Only thing that would possibly change that is medical.
Thats totally fine and your allowed, but there is nothing really to back that up unless you just have a gut feeling. Parra has been awesome this year and I don't think Upton is ever a wRC+ 140 player. He's come close to that once or twice but that would be an all-time high for him. Just totally unrealistic that he suddenly is the absolute best he's ever been in the next two months.
Wheeler for Bruce, even controlled for 2016, isn't ideal. I think Dan will dig it though. He's very high on Bruce. I would put Bruce a notch below the 'big bat' category but opinions vary.

That changes things. Wheeler 2016 could very well be a non factor for us. The extra year sold me on it.
He has a team option for 13M which would be a no brainer to pick up. He's 28 years old so odds are he will remain highly productive through the life of this contract. It would be really good value. Gotta make that trade if it's on the table. We are unlikely to even get much of anything from Wheeler next year.

Plays into my desire to see the Brewers frozen out of the market for being greedy. Carries the added benefit, if true, of denying Z the opportunity to crow about Parra for the rest of the season.

What are you basing that off of other than 1 year with a crazy high BABIP? Upton was the 1st pick in the draft, hit 26 homeruns at age 21 and is on pace to hit 25+ homers for the 3rd year in a row. His career OPS is almost 100 points higher than Parra's.

Sort of a Granderson with worst defense but he is younger also. He'd help. Id prefer Gomez, Cespedes or somebody even bigger after all this talk however. I guess we'll see.

Eric. First go back and check Parra's BABIP every year. Seriously. He consistently has a BABIP of 30-50 points higher than his average. He is just one of those players. Second. This is a leadoff hitter that is going to be at the top of the lineup so his power numbers aren't that vital IMO. He's also just 28 and might be a late bloomer. He has been consistently good for 4 months now. This is more than a hot streak.
Again if Upton was even remotely hitting I would agree with you. Ive long wanted Upton. As of today however? I think Parra helps us more as a 2 month rental.
But with the Dodgers need for immediate pitching help I don't see a connection that works unless it gets really intricate.
A deal with Niese and prospects (in the pool of: nimmo, fulmer, montero, wheeler)? I think Puig is a name that hasn't been mentioned much and would be a "big bat".
biggest bat available this entire deadline. Bigger than Tulo, Gomez or anyone. That right handed bat in the middle of the lineup would transform this team.
jesus, this is the craziest 72 hours I can ever remember with this team - and that's including Tony Bernazard's boxing academy and Steve Phillips internship summit.
Cespedes? LOL how many guys just posted we were out on him?
But if we did land him, we sure as hell better be serious about signing him long-term.
Why? Whats the difference between he, Upton, or Parra? It would be nice don't get me wrong, but like Clippard and the rest of the deals its a move for this year first and foremost.

Would be amazing if it's a non-Wheeler package of some combo of Lagares, Flores, Nimmo, Gsellman, Montero, etc. But I guess we shall see.
As Upton crushes one on Colon lol. He and Cespedes are absolutely the 2 best hitters who would most transform the lineup. I'd take the 2nd year of Gomez over paying for a rental though.

Cuddyer, Gomez, Uribe - believe we've all had dozens of arguments specifically zeroed in on guys he ultimately ended up pursuing. Even Chris Young last year.
Collins is awful at sensing 'the moment' in a ballgame
There are times when a good manager knows instinctively when a game is at a crossroads. Unless it's so obvious you could drive a truck through it he never picks up on it.
I wouldn't gas the pen tonight, we have a huge series coming up Friday-Sunday. Just win tomorrow, take the series and get ready for the biggest series we'll see at Citi to date.

Gomez

if wright gets back you adjust
I don't like Gomez in the three hole. He's supposed to have speed and baserunning ability even though he has had NONE this year. I don't know whats up with him but Id hope its still in him and he just had some injury issues. .266 and 8 homeruns doesn't seem like a big threat at 3 but either way he greatly improves our lineup going from Lagares/Kirk to Gomez somewhere.
I don't know if it's 'confirmed' but Gomez may have a strained quad

Gomez and TDA added to this lineup by Friday has me pumped. All we need is Wright to come back and join the party end of August. Wouldn't that be something.
RE: RE: I don't know if it's 'confirmed' but Gomez may have a strained quad
Though I'd lean towards keeping Granderson & Gomez as some combination of 1 & 2. Who hits where would depend on the matchup & health of whoever is hitting 3-4-5.

Source: One combination that #Mets and #Brewers have discussed: Wheeler and Flores for Gomez. Again, no indication whether deal is close.
has been one of the worst starters in MLB this year. Gee isn't good, but he'll at least give us some innings and not get rocked 2/3 of his outings. He threw a CG his last outing in Vegas and has pitched good his last four starts after getting rocked in his first few outings.
The bottom line is that every game matters and we simply can't afford to put colon out there.
You could be right. I'd actually prefer quad so maybe it was wishful thinking. Anytime an athlete says hip I reflexively wince...I call it the Bo reaction.

Sounds like Gomez to #Mets deal will be tough to consummate unless #Brewers drop their asking price.
Sounds like a lot of posturing, gotta think Wheeler is the compromise
...that doesn't have the best interests of the organization to heart. So if Gee does get a call up the powers that be better be 100% sure of his effort level because I'm not sure.
Because it went poorly let's not act as if Colon didn't just shut down a potent Dodgers lineup. His pitching badly is far from a foregone conclusion.
likely that it's getting close because generally it's clear that there is instantly more urgency or pressure on the side of the team that's trying to go for it. My guess is they are haggling over the quality of whatever 2nd/3rd pieces are in it, and my other guess is that if the Brewers are serious they won't make the same mistake they did when they liked Meisner a few days ago. Every single writer getting the news at the same time clearly got #Metstwitter into a frenzy and I doubt that was a coincidence.
a "top 4" pitcher is being asked for? And also the Mets now need the price to come down? Could Milwaukee be stupid enough to now be asking for Matz or Syndergaard?? UGH. This is annoying.
I am. Just what I was reading and apparently the Mets balked and now its held up it seems. Im sure its posturing and theres all sorts or Twitter BS going around. Who knows whats true or not.
Just a couple years ago Segura was a rising stud. Fast forward a couple years; he's been injury plagued and endured a terrible tragedy in his life and people seem like he's done. Could be a great comeback opportunity in a different city
All sorts of stuff is going to come out. I think it'll get done. They'll try to squeeze more than Wheeler out of it and realize we're not budging on it and will start to worry it's the best they'll ever do for him and it'll get finalized. Just my guess..
Mike Vorkunov @Mike_Vorkunov
Indeed, Robert Gsellman done after 5 innings, 0 ER, 68 pitches tonight. First time he hasn't thrown at least 80 in a AA start this year.
so it could still blow up. But I think this is a good match and as good of a deal as they can expect. Using the Tulo trade as a comp:
Reyes - Flores (similar fWAR, Flores younger & cheaper)
Hoffman - Wheeler (both TJS who are 1 year+ away)
Castro/3rd pitcher - IDK who they comps to right now, maybe Montero or Gselleman? Or maybe Lagares?
Bottomline is Tulo was an all star this year, the money per season was a wash, and people credited COL for a good return. The Mets aren't paying than that more for Gomez.

But I don't think he has the same legit Ace upside as the other 4 guys. I think he's going to be a really good #2/#3 type starter but I think we should be able to replace him internally. The vast majority of guys who undergo TJ don't.

Will Wheeler oitch in MLB in 2016? yes. Is he likely to recapture his top form in 2016? No. harvey had an extra long TJ rehab and has had an uneven season and he is the superior pitcher. 2017 is a reasonable time frame to expect a full return to form by Wheeler.
So the brewers are gonna trade Gomez for 2 players
Mike Vorkunov @Mike_Vorkunov 2m2 minutes ago
Bartolo Colon how has a 4.96 ERA. It's the 4th worst in the National League. He now has a 6.01 ERA in 14 starts since May 10. Not optimal.

And once again did I say he would be in top form in 2016. I said he could be a hue piece down the stretch next year. I never said TOP FORM. Are you ever going to give this shit up? Are you fucking serious? Your just going to question and make snide remarks with every post? My god, won't this end? Ill gladly return the favor and we can monopolize every Met board from now until the end of the season. Im sure all our fellow Mets posters will love it. Or we can just call a fucking truce end end this bullshit. How about that?
of Fulmer it makes the pill a lot easier to swallow. I still think Wheeler is going to be a really good pitcher and we might regret this in a few years but this move helps us "now". Had to do it.
but that's certainly debateable. Feel bad for Wheeler, I hope he goes on to have a great career and bounces back strong from TJS. He was on his way to being a very good pitcher in his own right, just not in the class of the other guys around him here. His Met career kind of came full circle, got him for a deadline dump during the decline into the abyss and gave him up for one on the way out of it.
Z agreed the minute Gomez passes his physical /fingers crossed

Wheeler...he's the trade that started it all.
Farewell, my friend.
RE: Z agreed the minute Gomez passes his physical /fingers crossed
I was at Carlos Gomez' first MLB game at Shea. He hit a double down the RF line in his first AB. All the buzz was "this kid is even faster than Reyes!" that day.
Actually pretty fair for both sides. I'm disappointed in losing Wheeler but it is what it is. You have to give to get and the Mets are able to give from their strength. No issues. It's a big bat to get down the stretch and he's controlled for next season. No complaints from me.
Gomez stays healthy and gives us a year and half of "actual Gomez". This has been a down year and injury concerns have been mounting. Not trying to put a damper on things but it would be SO Mets if he can't stay healthy here.
Anyways. Big move. Power move. This lineup is MUCH improved as of today.

I also think Collins wasn't exactly supportive and at that age/stage many young players need that to flourish. I wouldn't be at all surprised is his bat perks up with a change of scenery and a stable position.
he's young. The power is in there. He's going to be a decent player at some position at some point. This kid is going to hit 20 HR in his life. Im almost sure of it. Bitter sweet goodbye but he I don't think he was going to get a shot here with Cecchini and Herrera ready to take over the middle infield next year.

I don't disagree, but it was also probably one of those situations where a change of scenery is best for both side. they couldn't keep running him out there. anywhere. IMO.
Why is he still in the game?

Even if the trade isn't complete yet you should take him out. The guy is upset and I don't think it's fair to keep him out there.
Clueless Collins rides again. I really don't like him.
There is a social emotional component to being a manager.... TC just doesn't get that at all. It's almost abusive to leave him out there. He was clearly I'm hysterics before the inning started. I just don't get it.
I don't know if this reaches a lot of fans and prob doesn't but let this be a good example of how we forget so often that despite all the glory and the stats these guys are human.
Mistakes an all Wilmer was a born Met and was looking forward to a post season run with his clubhouse brothers , now he's going to a completely new regime
The shit fans would say on this board about him was really disheartening, hopefully Wilmers last look as a met reaches some of the assholes on this board
RE: Couldn't it be that Wilmer wants to play the last few innings with his
It's stupid because first of all you have a guy on the bench who can replace him in this game, second of all it's not a close game, third you don't want him getting injured, and fourth it's pretty nasty to leave this poor guy hanging out there upset and crying. Jesus Terry, it's not that difficult. There is zero reason to leave him in the game.
seen on a baseball field but it's also really touching. It's nice to know that there are players that really love their team and teammates. It's hard not to love this kid.
was traded for Santana with Humber, Mulvey and Guerra, Gomez was bad with the Twins and flipped from them somewhere else (I think) before winding up in MIL and establishing himself as one of the best in the game.

I don't recall a sole on this site ever bashing Flores the player. A few nut jobs couldn't get past him not being a SS but everybody loved the kid.
"There is no crying in baseball", was never traded from a team he loved. Good luck Wilmer whenever the trade is official. Official or not Collins should have pulled him.

Being critical of his play at SS isn't being critical of the player clearly out of position as much as it was being critical of the Mets screwing up the SS position.

He could. On the other hand if he gets Tommy John he could be back towards the end of next year and Gomez might be done here after 2016 anyway. Maybe he reclaims his job in 2017.

Yahoo Sports, 1 hour ago ... The New York Mets on Wednesday night reached agreement to acquire Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez as the trading deadline approached, sources told Yahoo Sports. [...] The cost for Gomez is expected to be 25-year-old right-hander Zack Wheeler, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and 23-year-old infielder Wilmer Flores. [...] The deal had not been announced as of mid-evening Wednesday, as the teams continued to review medical records. [...]

don't think tj surgery takes 12 months for non pitchers

That's a good point. But they seem to be going for it now so maybe they look to get one more piece to help them now and he would be expendable at this point.
The Uribe/KJ move left him nowhere to play and we had 4 players splitting time at 2 positions.. which could have turned into 5 if Wright returns. This doesn't even mention Herrera in the wings.
The idea that trading away Flores cancels out acquiring Gomez and that we have to somehow trade for ANOTHER bat is laughable.
What I read, what was all over the net and announced on abc, wfan commercial and the Yankee broadcast was the deal was done. There was no mention of any medical anything.

It doesn't. 8 months more likely but he probably wouldn't be back in peak form until the all-star break anyway I wouldn't think.

Agreed. We traded a guy currently on the bench for a guy who is most likely now the best player on the team.
if Sandy is done. Giving up Wheeler + we better be going for it now. Might as well bring in a Brad Miller to play SS with Flores or something like that.
just in case. Missing the first few months of next season is not a big deal and I guess he's still depth for this season. Could even put him on the 15 day DL to let him rest a little bit. Not a bad 4th/5th OFer for rest of the season.
Let him have the surgery and heal up. He was a legitimate asset in 2014. He just needs to get right. If we don't hang onto Gomez beyond 2016, it will be good to still have Lagares.
RE: Also I have no issue letting Lagares wait for offseason surgery

Agreed. There isn't a rush for Lagares to be ready for the start of the season anymore. With Gomez he can take his time so either way works. I am curious about Kirk. You would think Gomez takes his spot and Kirk is gone unless they DL Lagares right away.
sounds like they are making him a platoon/bench guy for now. That's probably the right call, no reason to have him miss potentially important games when he can otherwise miss the offseason/early season games.
Maybe you can get Rollins? or Alexei Ramirez? I'm just hoping for anything better than Tovar/Quintinilla.
Not sure if the Mariners would trade Miller anymore but he's having a pretty good season. Would be an ideal target I think. Would probably cost a lot though. I don't know. Tejada has been pretty good too. Maybe we just need a better backup.
They showed someone walk up to terry before the wilmer crying thing. Also think the comment about "i sob sometimes in the 3rd inning but i gotta keep going" was a bit douchey.

TC getting mad at the fans and media is stupid, but
Wilmer Flores is crying, the fans are giving him a standing ovation, the players are talking amongst themselves and Terry is the only guy in the stadium who is clueless as to why all this is happening? I'm supposed to believe that? I like Terry more than most, but please.
Only positive is this fell apart tonight and not Friday. Sandy has two days to right the ship and get us some help.
Brewers can go fuck themselves. Wheeler's medicals nixed the trade? He's coming off TJ WTF do they think his medicals are going to look like? This is twice they've fucked us over first bailing on the Meisner/Parra combo.

Mets sources confirmed. Brewers sources confirmed. Scott Boras (Gomez's agent) was under the impression he was a Met. It was Zack's medical.
A second source confirmed #Tigers open for biz on all walk-yr players: Price, Cespedes, Avila, Soria, Rajai Davis. Changes the market

Was told the Mets aren't in on Cespedes at this point.
Will Venable, CF
Yangervis Solarte, 3B
Matt Kemp, RF
Justin Upton, LF
Yonder Alonso, 1B
Jedd Gyorko, 2B
Alexi Amarista, SS
Austin Hedges, C
Tyson Ross, P
Kemp isn't even a remote possibility.

Was told I can rule out the Mets getting Cespedes; Talks with Brewers don't appear focused on Gomez.
Yeah I had a similar sentiment earlier. I do it for sure but not for huge prospects. Somebody like Montero maybe.
On the flip side Parra is a better fit to bat leadoff and contribute in CF.
Both catapult us into position to win a playoff spot. If Upton gets hot he could be the catalyst we need to contend for a championship.
A MLB exec on Gerardo Parra: "I wonder if the Brewers over-played their hand on him. I just expected him to be gone by now.''
Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick
#Mets leverage with Parra and Will Venable enhanced by other deals. #Royals and #Angels no longer have openings for LH OF bats.
OK maestro. lol. This from a guy that just admitted he knows next to nothing about our farm system.
Well the bigger piece in that is simply that Kirk is likely better if he's hitting again. Venable isn't terrible but Krik had a wRC+ of 130 last year and plays a stellar CF.
Valuations on position prospects is tricky when they are in the early development stages. It doesn't surprise me you consider yourself an expert. I await your hiring as a MLB executive with baited breath. You let us know when to forward the congratulatory note.
He should be in the conversation for NL ROY esp if the Mets make it to the postseason

I think Upton is definitely in play for us. Sandy has wanted him going back to AZ days. For his career he's the best pure hitter available, though the possible oblique injury is concerning. Just not sure where we'd play him.
Gerardo Parra wRC+ 140 and currently raging hot.
Torrag just mentions Montero as an overpay for Para but its laughable when referring to a "buy low" he could be included for a package for Upton.
Seems consistent.

Oh Im glad after using the word embarrassment when describing your behavior lately you thought outside of the box and said I was embarrassing myself. LOL
Im sure. Haha.

My money would be on Upton snapping out of his funk and being a better player down the stretch rather than Parra continuing to hit around .320.
@MartinoNYDN
Mets working on a trade. Not sure when of it will be done, but there's momentum. Like others, hearing it's so called big bat

He's 33 points below his career low OPS this season. That in turn is 15 points below his previous low. I'd still push real hard for him before committing to Parra. He's more talented and has had the better career.

I think that might be it too and Im sort of on the fence with that deal.
well the deadline is Friday afternoon so Id say you might be correct! ;)
Marc Carig @MarcCarig 9m9 minutes ago
Told Mets are indeed very close to pulling off a big trade. No sense of who it is, but chance its a big bat.

Yeah, not sure Parra would qualify as a "big bat". It has to be someone like Upton or Bruce. Still very exciting! **

Just totally unrealistic that he suddenly is the absolute best he's ever been in the next two months.
What are you basing that off of other than 1 year with a crazy high BABIP? Upton was the 1st pick in the draft, hit 26 homeruns at age 21 and is on pace to hit 25+ homers for the 3rd year in a row. His career OPS is almost 100 points higher than Parra's.
Cespedes out, Reds not moving Bruce at moment, I'm told. Parra trade fell apart last week. Mets almost certainly not on CarGo.

No. Braun might be a surprise though and they were talking to Milwaukee today.
A deal with Niese and prospects (in the pool of: nimmo, fulmer, montero, wheeler)? I think Puig is a name that hasn't been mentioned much and would be a "big bat".

Funny thing ... last time I spoke to him he asked ... arcarsenal? lol
Why? Whats the difference between he, Upton, or Parra? It would be nice don't get me wrong, but like Clippard and the rest of the deals its a move for this year first and foremost.
#Mets have talked to #Brewers about Carlos Gomez, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. No deal appears close. NYM also looking at other hitters.

If this guy doesn't know who I am, I am done with him..
Seriously, though.. Gomez seems to fit the criteria. He has all the check marks. Good fit position-wise, not a rental, not mentioned as one of the players the Mets are "out" on...

But if we did land him, we sure as hell better be serious about signing him long-term.

Because Cespedes is going to cost more than Parra. Why wouldn't we push to keep him here if we acquire him?
Was told #Brewers like Flores and he is starting at SS tonite. He wouldn't be main piece, but Milw has always rated him well #Mets

Agreed Arc. That guy even said it could be a 3 team trade. Seems to conflict 10 other guys saying there's smoke with Mets/Gomez.

Well Id want to sure but Im not going to cry if we can't. Its a huge power move for this year and Ill worry about the offseason in the offseason. Id only be upset if it was a killer prospect going back but a package of Niese? I wouldn't care to much.
Question I have is do #Mets value 1 1-2 yrs of Gomez enough to give up Wheeler, who I also heard #Brewers value highly

MY SPECULATION: Wonder if #Mets flip Lagares as part of Gomez package since Gomez will play CF. #Brewers get young version of Gomez.
mets are definitely talking to the brewers about carlos gomez, as others have reported
As Upton crushes one on Colon lol. He and Cespedes are absolutely the 2 best hitters who would most transform the lineup. I'd take the 2nd year of Gomez over paying for a rental though.
The intelligent way to interpret that is you are suggesting the compensation for Cespedes, Upton and Parra would be comparable. That is fucking stupid as arc indictaed in his polite response...

Because it went poorly let's not act as if Colon didn't just shut down a potent Dodgers lineup. His pitching badly is far from a foregone conclusion.
Mets pitching prospect Robert Gsellman was removed from his start tonight after throwing just 68 pitches.
I am. Just what I was reading and apparently the Mets balked and now its held up it seems. Im sure its posturing and theres all sorts or Twitter BS going around. Who knows whats true or not.
Yeah thats where Im at. Wheeler is the absolute most I would give up.
It really shouldn't.
Indeed, Robert Gsellman done after 5 innings, 0 ER, 68 pitches tonight. First time he hasn't thrown at least 80 in a AA start this year.
Metnut : 8:29 pm : link : reply
with Lagares/Wheeler/Flores for Gomez. I think it'll cost more though.
So Lagares/Wheeler/Flores/Gselleman? That's a steep price but I can barely, barely swallow it.

Good. That make me happy.
Quote:
But I don't think he has the same legit Ace upside as the other 4 guys. I think he's going to be a really good #2/#3 type starter but I think we should be able to replace him internally. Remember, he's not likely to be "100%" until Opening Day 2017. He'll pitch next season but like we are seeing with Harvey, it's highly unlikely he'll just revert to form without missing a beat. The vast majority of guys who undergo TJ don't.

I think he was given enough chances, his bat just isn't (or wasn't) good enough to stick him at SS and it was worse for a 2b.
Much like Carlos Gomez when he was traded, Wilmer probably needs a season or two.

2 Murphy 2B
3 Wright 3B
4 Duda 1B
5 D'arnaud C
6 Granderson RF
7 Conforto LF
8 Tejada SS
Granderson is there best hitter. 2, 3, or 4 for him.

He could. On the other hand if he gets Tommy John he could be back towards the end of next year and Gomez might be done here after 2016 anyway. Maybe he reclaims his job in 2017.
don't think tj surgery takes 12 months for non pitchers

That's a good point. But they seem to be going for it now so maybe they look to get one more piece to help them now and he would be expendable at this point.
The idea that trading away Flores cancels out acquiring Gomez and that we have to somehow trade for ANOTHER bat is laughable.

It doesn't. 8 months more likely but he probably wouldn't be back in peak form until the all-star break anyway I wouldn't think.

Agreed. We traded a guy currently on the bench for a guy who is most likely now the best player on the team.
Yeah exactly. Thats what Im thinking.
The kid needs his elbow fixed before playing anymore baseball IMO. I think the injury has effected his swing as much as his throwing.

Switch Granderson and Murphy then. Thats a damn impressive lineup though. With Cuddyer, Uribe, Johnson, and Plawecki on the bench?? Wow.
Agreed. There isn't a rush for Lagares to be ready for the start of the season anymore. With Gomez he can take his time so either way works. I am curious about Kirk. You would think Gomez takes his spot and Kirk is gone unless they DL Lagares right away.
I hope Sandy makes one more deal. There is not benefit in waiting.

Yeah. I mean the trading deadline is an A+ for me. Cant ask for anything more but what the hell? We came this far? Go get a SS too. lol.
What's he saying?
I don't get it:
Collins: "You guys think this game is easy to play? Play it with s--- like that going on in the background." #Mets

"Someone came to me, 'Wilmer's crying.'" Terry Collins said. At that point Collins had no idea about a trade.
Not sure if the Mariners would trade Miller anymore but he's having a pretty good season. Would be an ideal target I think. Would probably cost a lot though. I don't know. Tejada has been pretty good too. Maybe we just need a better backup.
"There was nothing I knew about. Why would I take him out of the game?" Terry Collins said.

What's he saying?
You have to listen to really appreciate but being asked about Wilmer crying the trade and he says he doesn't know what going on.
Said someone comes up to him and says Wilmer is crying and he said "what for" and they said he got traded, he says "For who?"
Another rant about fans watching on their phones and why even bother coming to the game, Kind of all over the place.
He is also saying that right now there is no deal that he is aware of.
"I don't even know why people come anymore, they watch the game on their cell phone."
Was told #Brewers asked for Dilson Herrera and #Mets refused since already were including Wheeler. Accepted Flores as 2d item
I would call it more exasperation at the situation then his being mad. At least that was my take on it.
Sandy Alderson insists "there is no trade. Unfortunately, social media got ahead of the facts." Says Gomez deal "will not transpire." #Mets
What the front office do?
Maybe Wheeler's medicals didn't impress

I pictured you on the floor in the fetal position when I heard them announce the trade (grin)
Lol, I was. Now that he's gone, there's nothing left for us to fight over (not that we ever really fought)
You're back!
This. After the nice start he's been horrible. We don't have the offense to carry a 5 ERA pitcher.
Brewers can go fuck themselves. Wheeler's medicals nixed the trade? He's coming off TJ WTF do they think his medicals are going to look like? This is twice they've fucked us over first bailing on the Meisner/Parra combo.
The #Brewers rejected the #Mets trade because of concerns over Wheeler"s physical and still plan to trade Gomez by Friday.

Mets sources confirmed. Brewers sources confirmed. Scott Boras (Gomez's agent) was under the impression he was a Met. It was Zack's medical.

does Colon get in a Mets uniform?

Maybe we see Dillon Gee again.
3-0 in his last four starts in Vegas. 3.65 era 21 k's w/ 6 walks in in 24.2 innings
