in to every deal angle is just overdone. WE HAVE ENOUGH INJURED PLAYERS, MAYBE SA DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL FOR ONE MORE AND TAKE THE RISK. Lets just wait and see what SA does before the trade deadline.
I said if the injury isn't viewed as something that will hamper his 2016 aka degenerative, and he's simply not running because he's afraid a minor pull etc will get worse this year then yes I 100% would have done it. I'm not a doctor so I can't make that call.
situation didn't factor into there thinking. You buy damaged goods at a discount not full retail price unless you got money to piss awY which the Mets dont
sick right now. The Mets were in position to take a chance giving up another player coming off major surgery that fit their budget and team. Astros did it instead.
If you want to say the Mets are currently risk averse than other
ballclubs due to their financial/budget restraints, then I can agree with that. The budget is limited and they have to hit on this trade. They need a big bat and can't afford to miss. So they nixed the deal. They already swung and missed on Cuddyer, and cant do it again.

I was shooting pool last night having a few drinks and saw the Gomez trade on the screen and was stoked. He was the perfect acquisition for this team and I didnt think we would pull it off for Wheeler and Flores no less. It sucked to hear it was nixed.
6:38pm: Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that there will be four or five prospects heading back to the Brewers in the deal (Twitter link).
6:32pm: The Astros and Brewers are in agreement on a trade that will send center fielder Carlos Gomez and right-hander Mike Fiers to Houston, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports
easily could turn into a week long argument with many people here and no one will ever win and no one will ever know for sure. We are all entitled to our opinions I guess.
It really doesn't have to. I've said "agree to disagree" a 100 times. I've said over and over again that I think differently but can see your (not specifically you) side of things too. But people are going to continue to force the belief on people. Whatever...takes two to tango, right?
Yeah its totally cool. And I almost feel like we are getting to a place where many of us can disagree and still be in a good place. There's a lot of strong opinionated people here and it is literally impossible for us to agree on every single topic but aside from one crazy poster I think we've all been much better this year. ;)
isn't a "better" fit as it means one of Conforto or Granderson or Bruce will be on the bench every game but he's a clear upgrade over what we have. Please do it. No brainer
How do Bruce and Gomez compare the last few seasons. Do you see a big difference in the two players?
Gomez is better than Jay Bruce when healthy, more dynamic, better fit but Jay Bruce has legit 30 homer power. At his best he's a .250ish guy with a cannon arm and plus power. Very, very streaky ala Duda. In fact, he's basically a Duda but an OF

Screw the Wilpons. It was about money after all, as it usually is with these scummy owners. Only way a deal gets done with the Reds is if they throw in enough money for the Wilpons.
in all this would be acquiring Bruce. Bruce is making more than Gomez and is having the better year. He doesn't play CF but Im fine rotating outfielders around paying Granderson in CF a little. Grandson's range in RF this year has been excellent.
Im also not so sure Conforto has LF locked up for the rest of the season. The 4 hit game was nice and all but he needs to keep hitting to keep his spot.
and said this wasnt about the money, it was the medical.
The Astros trade is a gut punch. It looks to me like they took a bit of a discount (when you factor in Fiers and the comp round pick). But this wasnt a giveaway. Houston gave up a lot. #40 prospect, Nimmo/Rosario level prospect, and at least one of the others was interesting.

Think the Mets backed out of the trade because of money. Not that they arent cheap, but why agree to it in the first place if you didnt want to spend the money? I think they didnt want to risk dealing a starting caliber pitcher who is locked up for a few years and a player who has flashed starting ability for a one and a half year deal with a player who has injury concerns.
The Astros were willing to take the risk. I am not going to kill Mets ownership for this.
Our bullpen consisting of Familia, Mejia and Parnell seemed invincible. Now Familia and Parnell can't pitch a scoreless inning and Mejia is suspended. Our newly acquired Tyler Clippard can't replace all three.
Cuddyer 8.5, Gee 5.3, Mayberry 1.45, Parnell 3.7
So we can defend Sandy all we want... imagine what basically 20 million worth of talent would look like vs. that off-season?
Gotcha. Its all good.

Glass half full type of guy, huh? LOL

Reds willing to trade Jay Bruce to the Mets for Zack Wheeler now. Worth watching over the next 20 hours.

That's a scary thought.
Don't see why they would have to. If Wheeler is expected back in June/July isn't that when you would expect Fulmer "ready" (ignoring super 2 etc_
Isn't Montero still ahead of him?

Less than two years of Chase Headley?
That really sucks. He would have totally changed this lineup.
Boras on Gomez pasing #Astros physical, not #Mets: Gomez's June 16 adductor exam and MRI reports (cont)

Familia needs to get better fast!
Gomez no trade
gut wrenching rain delay loss
Leathersich and Blake Taylor need TJs

So why are his SB's abysmal, and what about that quote from Gomez?
On deck:
-can still make a trade after the deadline
-winter meeting options
- maybe more players crying and the Manager wondering WTF is happening
