Backman should be fired over the Leathersich/Black stuff. Anyone who trusts him with our young arms is out of their minds.
One of the strangest things Ive ever seen. Im guessing Viola needs to share blame as well. How does the pitching coach not tell Backman to pull him either? Just horrible all around. Im still speechless.
Viola's son of all people came out defending them saying arms just get hurt and has nothing to do with workload. It was a very strange defense as even the staunchest of "innings limits are stupid" people would agree taking a guy who is a short man and after not pitching in 9 days having him throw 57 pitches is ridiculously strange. If TC has Clippard threw 57 pitches next week and Clippard needs TJ people will have their pitchforks out and Clippard at one point was an actual SP.

Yup totally agree. Sucks because I thought Leathersich might be a real option late in the year too.
away because of money. Brewers taking on $$ was obviously one of the parameters of the deal, they didn't want to chip in, Sandy walks away. Is this really so hard to believe? They've demanded cash back on every deal they've made so for.
Either that or Sandy was just trolling the Brewers the whole time, lol.
but he really doesn't deserve to be lumped in with Alex. Alex might be the very worst reliever in all of baseball. He is THAT bad.
Carlos has a FIP of 3.15 and a WAR of 0.4. As a mop up guy/6th man in the pen he would be fine. Just keep him away from the 7th or 8th.
The person that needs to be replaced ASAP is Alex. Number two... we need to figure out if Parnell can pitch or not. He's been destroyed in two appearances now so we need to figure it out quick. The rest I like.

Yep. Every single deal they make or are trying to make involves money. Like I keep saying.. when they actually take on money, I'll believe they have it. Still yet to do it.
Jeff Wilpon was taken by surprise. "Sandy, what's up?" " You are trading for who?" " How much is he making?" "The Brewers are paying his salary right?" " No way" " Um, how is Gomez feeling these days?" " Let Dr. Nick look at his medical records, hehehehe" "Sandy I got bad new, Dr. Nick says he is a walking cripple, kill the deal"
Jesus Christ, I know that it's difficult to comprehend how a team with years of documented financial issues might walk away from a deal because of financial reasons.

What are you basing this on?? Pre-madoff times? How is going from 84 million to now up around 110 million from the end of last season not adding payroll? Cuddyer wasn't adding payroll?? Blevins and Torres wasn't adding payroll? Not trying to get into it with you or anything, but where are you coming from? Specifically this deadline? Is that what you are talking about?
that if you don't think that Wilpon did not know what the financial commitment to Gomez would be while Alderson was working to do the deal, then whatever I say is not going to change your mind. The blaming of the Wilpons for everything is a reflex action with some of you
was one of the parameters of the deal that they couldn't agree on and Sandy walked away. When did I ever bring up the Wilpons? Listen, I really don't care if we agree or not but I find it extremely shortsighted to eliminate "financial reasons" as a possible reason when this team has been mired in a financial mess for many years
Agree or not, but the mets have demanded cash in all of their deals. I'm willing to bet Sandy would have walked away from those too if he didn't get the cash. But whatever, agree to disagree.
I really don't know, as much as I hate Jeff Wilpon, I can't believe he wasn't in on it every step of the way and wouldn't agree to a deal pending Medicaid if the numbers were not understood before it got to that stage. Maybe I'm missing something, but how do they get to looking at Medicaid if all the parameters are in place?
How do you know how it goes, when they agree to deals, when they look at medical records, and such. Maybe there were two or three different things going on at the same time. With so much different info going around, you've decided to pick a side of the story and run with it. And that's fine.
When I look at all of the facts, I just think that walking away from the deal b/c of money is more believable than walking away from the deal because of something they suddenly "saw" in a medical record. If fully admit that I could be wrong but I believe that Sandy worked out the parameters of the deal he was willing to accept and the Brewers didn't cave. Read into that any way you want.
but when I get someone an offer it is pending a drug test and background check. I know exactly what the $$$ are the vacation policy & all benefits. I don't find out after the background check and pending the results of the drug test

You can't possibly be comparing a GM working out a MLB trade to a "Headhunter" recruiting someone for a job....please tell me you didn't just do that. I'm pretty sure they couldn't be more different.
Isn’t it possible the truth is in the middle, that it’s a mix of both? Looking at this, it reads like the two sides agreed to the deal in principle, at which point it is customary for teams to swap medical information. For what it’s worth, financial terms are almost always agreed to BEFORE the post of medical reports being exchanged. So, once they saw the medical report, I’m guessing the Mets saw something that concerned them about Gomez’s ability to play in 2016. They asked the Brewers to cover part of his salary, amending the agreed upon deal. Milwaukee said no, and the deal fell apart. This makes sense to me, as a possible timeline…
For what it’s worth, in the above scenario, it would make total sense for these two teams to circle back and revisit the deal. I know everyone is reporting that it’s dead, but why? If the Mets believe Gomez can help this season, but have concerns about 2016, it seems to me there are ways to restructure the trade to make it work for both sides. The Mets still need someone to hit and play center field, so I’m interested to see if Gomez rumors again pop up later in the day or tomorrow…
to hear about Blevins. Iffy on Montero since this is the second time he's been "shut down" due to soreness and then the doctor said nothing is wrong. Very odd

What hand did Backman play with Black? I heard about the Leathersich mess but didnt know Black as well.
LOL.
The Torrai twins have to go and they have barely enough healthy RPs to replace them.

Yup. But we all know that would never happen.
