reading everything and speaking to people I am of the STRONG opinion there absolutely was a monetary aspect to this falling apart. I have NO IDEA about Gomez's health. NONE. But I do believe the Mets insisted on $$ and the Brewers balked.
they saw his medical records. They agreed to $$$ pending the results. He did not come back clean, they went back and asked for $$$ which you and I would have done if we didn't kill the deal on the spot, the Brewers would not pony up, the Mets said see ya.
HH, I didn't miss anything. Comparing what you do to what
I'm with Dan on this one. But like I said before, agree to disagree. I'm certainly not going to change your mind nor are you willing to see a different side of the story. And I'm not even trying to change your mind, just trying to explain where my side is coming from. Not that any of this really matters anyway.

Again, you are choosing to believe what Matt Cerrone is saying COULD have happened. And the next time Matt Cerrone is right about anything would be the first.
My personal opinion is that is not the case. There was freaking 3 million dollars they were adding to the payroll. The deal was agreed upon. Im sure that Sandy did ask them to throw in 500K or a million bucks like he usually does. No debate there. But you can't tell me he vehemently shut down the whole thing immediately and refused to revisit this trade over such a little amount SHOCKING the Brewers in the process. If they were haggling over finances the Brewers would have been aware of it and not telling Gomez goodbye. It still makes no sense.
the $$$ were already agreed to or they would not have the right to ask for his medical records. The fact that you would of still done the deal for Gomez because you are so in love with player makes me glad you are not a GM. The Mets were absolutely within their rights to renegotiate based in dirty medical records.

Agree. Mets probably wanted $ after seeing potential health issues on Medicals. Brewers said no. Deal fell apart.
easily could turn into a week long argument with many people here and no one will ever win and no one will ever know for sure. We are all entitled to our opinions I guess.
I do know that Gomez HAS been struggling with injuries all year and he himself has said he's "scared" to run. Thats enough for me. His numbers are down across the board and if its because he's struggling with injuries I don't want him. Not for Wheeler anyway. We can improve this team in other ways. His 8 homeruns, and 7 stolen bases wasn't making a huge difference this year either way. wRC+ of 107? This is not some guy that was going to transform this team, especially with a bum hip.
they were on the hook for whatever they agreed to. He wasn't clean( unless you believe the doctors are puppets and liars to give Wilpon an out because he had buyer's remorse)and the Mets wanted the Brewers to make the whole and they refused. Fuck the Brewers

Man, you make a lot of assumptions there. First, you are assuming that you understand how trade negotiations in MLB go...you don't. You assume that I would have been fine with still trading for Gomez if he was so hurt because I'm "in love with the player"...again, you are off base. You are assuming that there were dirty medical records...you couldn't possibly know this.
You are so blinded by wanting to be right, that it's impossible for you to see any other side. And that's ignorant. Again (for the nth time), I'm just explaining my thought process. I can also see your side of it. I just don't necessarily believe it. Or, we may all be wrong. Who the fuck really cares.
The monetary aspect appears to be tied to his injury/medical concerns.
His remaining contract this year was more than doable without money being kicked in. However, being due 9 million next year with an injury/medical concern which isn't some made up spin by the Mets because we all KNOW Gomez has been dealing with a bad hip and it shows in his play. Some teams would have taken the rsik anyway, however the Mets felt the financial risk was too great, especially if this can linger til next season which is also possible depending on what was seen in the medicals.

It really doesn't have to. I've said "agree to disagree" a 100 times. I've said over and over again that I think differently but can see your (not specifically you) side of things too. But people are going to continue to force the belief on people. Whatever...takes two to tango, right?
in to every deal angle is just overdone. WE HAVE ENOUGH INJURED PLAYERS, MAYBE SA DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL FOR ONE MORE AND TAKE THE RISK. Lets just wait and see what SA does before the trade deadline.
I said if the injury isn't viewed as something that will hamper his 2016 aka degenerative, and he's simply not running because he's afraid a minor pull etc will get worse this year then yes I 100% would have done it. I'm not a doctor so I can't make that call.
situation didn't factor into there thinking. You buy damaged goods at a discount not full retail price unless you got money to piss awY which the Mets dont
sick right now. The Mets were in position to take a chance giving up another player coming off major surgery that fit their budget and team. Astros did it instead.
If you want to say the Mets are currently risk averse than other
ballclubs due to their financial/budget restraints, then I can agree with that. The budget is limited and they have to hit on this trade. They need a big bat and can't afford to miss. So they nixed the deal. They already swung and missed on Cuddyer, and cant do it again.

I was shooting pool last night having a few drinks and saw the Gomez trade on the screen and was stoked. He was the perfect acquisition for this team and I didnt think we would pull it off for Wheeler and Flores no less. It sucked to hear it was nixed.
6:38pm: Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports that there will be four or five prospects heading back to the Brewers in the deal (Twitter link).
6:32pm: The Astros and Brewers are in agreement on a trade that will send center fielder Carlos Gomez and right-hander Mike Fiers to Houston, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports

Yeah its totally cool. And I almost feel like we are getting to a place where many of us can disagree and still be in a good place. There's a lot of strong opinionated people here and it is literally impossible for us to agree on every single topic but aside from one crazy poster I think we've all been much better this year. ;)
isn't a "better" fit as it means one of Conforto or Granderson or Bruce will be on the bench every game but he's a clear upgrade over what we have. Please do it. No brainer
How do Bruce and Gomez compare the last few seasons. Do you see a big difference in the two players?
Gomez is better than Jay Bruce when healthy, more dynamic, better fit but Jay Bruce has legit 30 homer power. At his best he's a .250ish guy with a cannon arm and plus power. Very, very streaky ala Duda. In fact, he's basically a Duda but an OF

Screw the Wilpons. It was about money after all, as it usually is with these scummy owners. Only way a deal gets done with the Reds is if they throw in enough money for the Wilpons.

Cuddyer 8.5, Gee 5.3, Mayberry 1.45, Parnell 3.7
So we can defend Sandy all we want... imagine what basically 20 million worth of talent would look like vs. that off-season?
Gotcha. Its all good.

Glass half full type of guy, huh? LOL

Reds willing to trade Jay Bruce to the Mets for Zack Wheeler now. Worth watching over the next 20 hours.

That's a scary thought.
Don't see why they would have to. If Wheeler is expected back in June/July isn't that when you would expect Fulmer "ready" (ignoring super 2 etc_
Isn't Montero still ahead of him?
