NFT: Pineda headed for the DL.

nygnyy274 : 7/30/2015 1:17 pm
@WFAN660: Francesa tells @JoeandEvan that Michael Pineda has an elbow issue and won't pitch tonight. Ivan Nova also hurt. http://t.co/2gxyBMhujx

I think just shoulde 2011 he had some arm issue
nope

The only people reporting it are using Francesa as their source, and he's not exactly someone I'd consider really plugged-in with the Yankees. The beat guys haven't said anything.
if he is injured
RasputinPrime : 7/30/2015 1:36 pm : link
we will be making some moves today without any leverage. That would really not be optimal.

More importantly, elbow issues mean only one thing in 2015.
says nothing about DL...
Mike in St. Louis : 7/30/2015 1:41 pm : link
just that he's got an elbow issue..
ok....here's what Sherman says

Still working to talk to more people, but told by #Yankees exec Pineda dealing with forearm muscle strain not elbow, not considered serious
since when is a forearm issue
RasputinPrime : 7/30/2015 1:49 pm : link
not a prelude to something serious?
Sounds like a forearm strain
Stu11 : 7/30/2015 1:55 pm : link
people were leery when Miller/Tanaka went on the the DL with similar things predicting doom and gloom TJ surgery and it was 3 weeks to a month and they have been fine since.
Life's too short to go around worrying about this stuff
Greg from LI : 7/30/2015 1:56 pm : link
It either is something serious or it isn't. Time will tell, and until then I'll just watch the games and see what happens.
limits his innings
RasputinPrime : 7/30/2015 2:00 pm : link
which is a plus.

No matter how you slice it we need more arms to throw in there.
Likely not serious

If it had been, the Yanks would have been "all in" on Price.

So long as just a strain, this might be the best thing for Pineda. Keep in mind that he did not pitch in 2012 or 2013 and only threw 76 IP in 2014. He has pitched in 118 this year.

His career high was 171- way back in 2011. It is probably best long term for Pineda and the Yanks to step back for a month, get him re-started in September and keep that IP total around 150 and then push him in 2016 to get to 200. Reduce the risk of causing harm by overwork after essentially 3 years off.
If true, they do have some decent to good internal options.

Diego Moreno certainly earned a start after the other night. And Severino is starting to look dominant in AAA - 10K's and 1 hit allowed in his last start.

I really hope they don't make a big move (and I'm happy all the big pitching names are off the board already)....we've got a huge lead in our division....and the playoffs are always a crapshoot anyway. Make a few minor upgrades and let's roll the dice with what we've got.

With Severino, Judge, Bird, Jagielo, Refsnyder, Sanchez et al. ready to join the big league team in the next year or two it's an exciting time to be a Yankee fan. Let's watch our next core develop....it's been a long time coming.
Pineda has serious talent
RasputinPrime : 7/30/2015 2:03 pm : link
no need to break him. Same with Tanaka. Look what happened with CC.

Need more arms which is why trading a bunch of them away for a rental isn't a good strategy. If you NEED that arm because the wheels are going to fall off otherwise then so be it. We'll see if any of this changes the approach.
Okay, if it's not serious, then that's awesome
Dave in Hoboken : 7/30/2015 2:08 pm : link
and leaves us off where we are. Nice.

you guys can get a nice look at Gallardo (who's on the block) tonight as a potential trade target.

Pineda has Grade 1 forearm strain. Same as Miller, who missed a month. Being put on DL, but #Yankees feel he will pitch again this yr

Trade for Gallardo and have him pitch tonight.
This will save Pineda innings
Phil in LA : 7/30/2015 2:29 pm : link
if a grade one strain is all it is.
Glad Warren is still
section125 : 7/30/2015 2:30 pm : link
there. Pineda has been rocky for a month. Warren and Moreno...

C'mon Big Mike!

He's been sketchy recently, so maybe a rest is in order.
