Of all the quarterbacks who have passed for over 4,400 yards

widmerseyebrow : 7/30/2015 2:36 pm
in the regular season, Eli is the only one to have won the Super Bowl in the same season.

Only 5 other QBs have passed over 4,000 yards in a season and won the Super Bowl the same year.

2011 Eli Manning 4933
2006 Peyton Manning 4397
2009 Drew Brees 4388
1999 Kurt Warner 4353
1994 Steve Young 4170
2014 Tom Brady 4109

Cool story, but
1. Kind of a crazy stat since 4000+ yards passing is pretty common now and
2. Man was that a special season by Eli given the awful running game (statistically the worst in the league that year) and porous defense (29th).
And the Defense

gave up more points than the offense scored...
the giants were also last

In the league in rushing that year. No team has ever done that and won the super bowl
Hard to imagine

Eli put up 580 more yards than Warner as that 99 team was explosive.

Warner had Marshall Faulk to hand off to, and a good defense (4th in points; 6th in yards) giving him short fields to drive.

(Common thread: The Defensive Coordinator for the '99 Rams was Peter Guinta.)
Eli > Warner

Love how everyone says Eli needs weapons and a defense to win but they fail to mention how much better he makes every player around him and Kurt Warner had better weapons then Troy Aikman had IMO his offense of line was not shabby either, best blind side tackle I've ever seen was Orlando Pace. With that said Eli will never win a Reg season MVP award.

Eli was very much in the MVP discussion for most of 2011, I think its very possible for him to win an MVP, however unlikely.
Isn't MVP voted on before the playoffs begin?

Eli's magic was in those two playoff runs. Good as his number were in 2011, the team was 10-6, that doesn't get you very far in MVP voting.
Actually, they were 9-7.

.
And without Eli's 4th quarter magic...
Britt in VA : 7/31/2015 2:18 pm : link
they would have easily been 2-14 considering he had 7 4th quarter comebacks that year (an NFL record).
Eli had 1,219 yards passing the playoffs

Giving him 6,152 passing yards!!!

6000 passing yards, NFL record in 4th quarter comebacks, Super Bowl title/MVP

Legendary season.
AND NFL record for most 4th Quarter TD's, with 14.
Britt in VA : 7/31/2015 2:31 pm : link
Previous record held by Johnny Unitas (later tied by Peyton) with 13.

Eli Manning threw for the most passing yards in a Super Bowl winning season.

Yes, but it's more than that. There have been 130 4,000+ passing seasons in NFL history and only 6 have resulted in a Super Bowl victory. There have been 55 4,400+ passing seasons in NFL history and Eli is the only one to come away with a ring. Some threat of a running game and defense are the norm to win it all making Eli's year that much more of an awesome outlier.
