Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees are set to acquire Dustin Ackley from the Mariners. Ramon Flores and Jose Ramirez will be going back to Seattle. Ackley, 27, is batting just .215/.270/.366 with six home runs and 19 RBI over 207 plate appearances this season. While he's another option for second base, he has mostly played in the outfield in 2015. |
...as soon as we get a little more help for the rotation or the pen...
Who knows maybe getting out of that negative environment for hitters called Safeco can light a spark?
Not a major move but interesting provided this in no way impacts what we do at 2B.
Jones wasn't adding anything. Ackley will offer more versatility and the same floor. Maybe he has an upside we haven't seen since he was a rookie?
I watch lots of mariners games and Ackley isn't worse than Jones. I'm not saying he is going to be appreciably better but I get the sense that a change of scenery may do him well.
This is a minor move in any event.
Plus Ackley is a RH fielder so I don't see him at 1B. (I may be proven wrong about that.)
Drew was older and less likely to outperform his prior years. He also cost us alot more in salary.
What can I say - I like him more than most and i'm cautiously optimistic that there is a reason the Yankees have being after him for a while.
I smell a conversion to the mound upcoming..
I just don't get it. This team needed another left handed hitter? They ran out 8 of them the other day. They can put a lefty at any position on the field.

This, and gives them freedom to use Refsnyder as a trade chip.
We'll talk to Girardi soon, but I'm told by someone that the plan is to use Ackley at second base. Hmmm. Perhaps Drew is on the move?

The bat of Drew and the glove of Refsnyder! A brilliant solution .
He is a Boros client. He also has a screw loose. He spend most of his winters in the upper peninsula of Michigan with is wife freezing his ass off. His family doesn't like the wife so he wont speak to them after growing up very close.
maybe a close shave, the bright lights on NY and a short porch in RF will do him some good. He has big time talent but doesn't love the game it seems.
Jones and Ryan are shitty bench bats who can't steal bases. Ackley is more versatile even if his performance at the plate doesn't improve and he's a better runner than either. So no, the team is not worse. Depending on what happens in the next 24 hours the bench could be significantly better.
I would think they might as well call up one of the kids and let them pitch. Haren isn't a difference maker. That's what they need at this point. He's just an okay NL starter. And I realize a difference making SP is hard to find at this point but oh well. I guess you hang onto your prospects in that case.
Iwakuma wouldn't be bad at all if he checks out medically. But I believe he has first round compensation so the Yankees would have to give up that type of talent at a minimum in order to get him. I don't know if any teams value Iwakuma that highly at this point.
