Protection for Cruz?

This makes me happy..

A 4th receiver who could step in and produce..Sure he's dropped his share of passes, but I'm not going to get too caught up in that..He also makes plays..As a 4th receiver, this was a no-brainer imo
C'mon Bold,

where's the sticky? Hop to it!

:)
I don't mind seeing him in various

personnel packages. If we need speed on the field we can go with Cruz, OBJ, and JJ in situations.
I want to see more of Corey Washington, Jr.
Anakim : 7/30/2015 6:37 pm : link
I hope he doesn't take playing time away from him.

That was quick...
okiegiant : 7/30/2015 6:43 pm : link
it's a good depth signing. If the kids perform he probably doesn't make the team...if someone falters or gets hurt(now there's something we sometimes see)he can step in.
sick we got the guy with the 14.39% drop rate

But only 5 drops last year with Oakland...maybe he didn't like the cold or thought Rodgers threw the ball too hard?
It's all good with a new thread.

It made too much sense. Prefer JJ over Preston. More speed, bigger target and knows the system.
Drops balls and is 31?
BlueLou : 7/30/2015 7:14 pm : link
One hopes he doesn't push Corey Washington off the 53. Nice injury insurance at least.

But jones can definitely play. He's the 4th best wr on this team at the very least.

Look at the offenses and who was throwing to them.

Danny Kanell : 7/30/2015 8:14 pm : link
This is more than just competition. This is a legit pro WR, who rarely is hurt and knows the offense. This is a really good signing.
Last year he had
Dave in Hoboken : 7/30/2015 8:21 pm : link
73 catches for 666 yards and 6 TDs.

I know those aren't the deeply analytical stats, but I don't think he'd make a bad 4th WR.
Wow, what a fantastic signing.
Mike in Long Beach : 7/30/2015 8:33 pm : link
14 touchdowns 3 years ago, at least 50 grabs four of the last five seasons.

This guy is here for a number of reasons. An insurance policy for Cruz, a motivator for Randle, and most importantly... a good players who's gonna help us win games... and he's cheap somehow.

Fantastic.
Speed
Dragon : 7/30/2015 8:34 pm : link
He got very little desperation on most of his short routes that's not good for Eli. These are the kind of moves that make you ask if they felt they needed someone what took so long. From all reports our WR's have been doing well in OTA's hope this move does not hold back Washington and Davis .
Separation
Dragon : 7/30/2015 8:37 pm : link
Not desperation I would have liked this move about two years past much more
Good signing
GiantsFan84 : 7/30/2015 8:40 pm : link
That being said, hopefully he doesn't make the team. Right now he provides extra insurance in case of injury and other circumstances. Having too many good players at a position is a good problem to have.
Jones
Dragon : 7/30/2015 8:40 pm : link
Could also be the real truth about where Cruz is at right now.
This is a guy that virtually moves into the 4th spot on the depth
GMenLTS : 7/30/2015 8:45 pm : link
chart. Completely removes any need to keep parker and enables you not to have to rely on talley or washington to develop.

He's definitely had some shitty drops on occasion but the guy definitely can get open and he'll be right up to speed on the offense.

We just got a solid starter with the ability to stretch the field as a 4th/5th WR. Hard to find fault in this move

Jones is competition for what should be a strong group. I still think we'll see the "real" Cruz later in the season. I just don't know how "real" he'll be. My gut tells me he will never be 100% but 99% ain't bad either.

I understand this thought. I thought it immediately, too... but that just isn't the deal and we shouldn't read to much into it. Everyone.... from the Giants organization, to the players, to the media, to Cruz himself, says that Cruz's rehab (knock the fuck on wood) has been literally as perfect as possible. Ahead of schedule and nary a set back since that awful night in Philly.

I'm not going to read into this and assume something bad is happening to Cruz simply because we picked up a quality WR. Is it fair to say that this is an insurance policy for Cruz? Absolutely. I'd have a backup option EVERY TIME one of my best players is coming back from major surgery, no matter how good the rehab has gone.

From a Victor Cruz standpoint, that is all this is.

this is a very good signing
gidiefor : Mod : 7/30/2015 9:18 pm : link
and Jones and McAdoo are familiar with each other -- low risk -- high reward!!!

those of you barking about Cruz are making the wrong assumption -- this is more about Randle, Washington and Parker

Jones is a proven commodity and he makes TDs -- I think he will push Randle for #3 -- Randle better get it

I can imagine a 4 WR set that will drive defenses absolutely crazy!!
I like it

He's 31 years old and was cut 1 year into a 3 year /11m deal.

I'm all for signing him. I even like it. But the downplaying of Rueben Randle goes a bit far at times.
Harris may hsve a tough time
aquidneck : 7/30/2015 9:44 pm : link
contributing on offense. Not necessarily bad. I think his play improves both as a gunner and as a returner when he focuses on ST.
Yea have to agree this is a good signing..
prdave73 : 7/30/2015 10:25 pm : link
Good depth, will easily be the 4th wr.
I'd rather see Harris as the 4th WR
KWALL2 : 7/30/2015 10:44 pm : link
Jones is a slow avg size WR. I'd rather see the team try and develop Harris or Washington.
I love the concept of complaining
OBJ4President : 7/30/2015 10:57 pm : link
about signing a guy who clearly improves the depth on your football team, and will be comfortable with your offense.
