Andrew Bailey was promoted to AAA BTW...
Dunedin81 : 7/30/2015 11:21 pm : link
was lights out at AA, you're pretty much playing with house money as far as he's concerned but he could be a factor in the pen going forward too.
and McCann hits a Yankee stadium homer
RasputinPrime : 7/30/2015 11:22 pm : link
that is an out in Texas. Man he has missed about 4 homers in this series.
so basically after an airtight zone all game
Stu11 : 7/30/2015 11:22 pm : link
now everything is a strike. alrighty then...
crap ...

that's where we need a Homer Bush type...
PetesHereNow : 7/30/2015 11:25 pm : link
someone that could steal a base there would be fricking splendid. Now we're minus ARod, and possibly screwed. Can't believe Teix swung at that awful 2-2 pitch.
Andrus is 3-4 in this game
Greg from LI : 7/30/2015 11:25 pm : link
That's stomach churning. He's an atrocious offensive player.
Here's the leadoff walk

OK kid. Not smart.
what a frustrating godamn game
Stu11 : 7/30/2015 11:31 pm : link
virtually no offense the last 7 innings. Our BP can't lose these games to a team like Texas and their thoroughly mediocre pen.
wtf is Girardi trying to steal outs in a tie game?
PetesHereNow : 7/30/2015 11:31 pm : link
If Miller was coming in whenever Goody gave up a baserunner, let him pitch the fucking 10th inning from the beginning. If the plan is to use him in a tie game with a runner on to get 3 outs, then let him get 3 outs to start the inning.
WTF does Joe do that?
section125 : 7/30/2015 11:31 pm : link
Why start a guy then pull him. If he's on that short a leash, then Goody should not have started the inning and Miller should have.
Miller In Now
Percy : 7/30/2015 11:31 pm : link
Got to get these guys out.

stealing the thoughts from my mind :)
Fucking Andrus almost hit one out
dpinzow : 7/30/2015 11:33 pm : link
Ellsbury made a great catch at the fence. I've been posting a lot of WAR's lately, and Andrus is a pathetic 0.3, so this is probably his best night of the season offensively. Hopefully Ellsbury is OK
Ellsbury tracks that down
RasputinPrime : 7/30/2015 11:34 pm : link
hit the wall. Hope his body is going to hold up. He had to go back a long way on that one.

Leonys Martin hits a bullet that would have gone into right and given Texas 1st and 3rd. Instead the ball hits DeShields who is out and Martin gets credited with 1st base
LOL

should have been a single to RF but it hits DeShields.

rough loss

job in this series, we were lucky to get a split. Decent SP and we take 3 out of 4. CC is finished, I hope he's ok but the dehydration part is on him... They all know how hot it is in Texas and you need to hydrate the day BEFORE so you dont get dehydrated.

Leake, Hamels, and Price are all gone and they knew the Yanks werent given up the farm.

Yankees need an innings eater, like Iwakuma or Sheilds but I fear teams will see the Yankees as desperate now an ask for the world.

Beltran needs t be DH only, his effort and lack of speed is killing them in the OF.
On CC
blueblood'11 : 7/31/2015 7:26 am : link
How ineffective has he become. Why is it guys who throw similarly to the way he throws now as opposed to the way he threw can be so effective yet he struggles game in and game out.

CC still throws a nice sweeping curveball. His change up is the same. Bottom line he has all the pitches he had before except that overpowering fastball. And it's not like he relied solely on his fastball in previous years. He knew how to pitch. He constantly caves in. Joe has to look at it and say this guy is not coming around to where he thought would be.

With the staff in a bit of disarray maybe now that Adam Warren has had a few weeks off to recharge his batteries and save his innings total they will put him back in the rotation. As for CC, he's giving them nothing but heartburn. Any other pitcher in that rotation at this point would probably be vanquished to the bullpen. Joe has a tough decision to make here. He really does. He knows what he has to do but does he have the nerve to sit an aging veteran who has in the past been a rock but no longer has the chops to get it done.

And there it is... CC Slobathia sent to the Hospital

How much weight does he lose in one game pitching in 100 F temps in a gray flannel suit? Sweat is just pouring off of him.

Helped Yanks win their last championship in 2009. Yes,he's deteriorated into someone who should not be in the rotation but as an athlete he's going to take the ball & give you the best he has. The onus falls on management & Giradi-do they bite the bullet, make CC the long man in the BP or do they continue to worry about the $$$ & run him out there? With the Pineda injury & Nova's recovery from TJ, the question is who replaces CC? In house, Severino & Mitchell can fill slots & if they make a deal(s) by 4:00 today, Warren can return as well. I guess by late this afternoon we'll have a better handle on what they're doing going forward!
looks like we might be getting Kimbrel

The mistake made is in signing these over 30 guys when they opt out. Let somebody else pay him. The Yanks already got his prime. I think they have learned that lesson.

CC is the primary reason
rich in DC : 7/31/2015 9:12 am : link
the Yanks aren't getting in on long contracts with guys over 30. The prospects the Yanks would have had to give up to get Price would also have made it almost a necessity to resign him after the season- and he would have been starting a long term contract at age 31.

The same story for Hamels- and adding in the fact that Hamels had a poor record against the AL teams.

The Yanks are in a tough spot on CC- he is signed through next year, and likely 2017 as well- his option vets automatically unless his left shoulder causes him to end the 2016 season or spend a long stretch of the 2016 season on the DL. CC's shoulder has not been the problem, so I imagine that he is he for 2 more seasons- at $25M per. The only choice they really have in 2016 is to run him out there and hope for an ARod/Tex like resurgence.

I think that with Pineda down, maybe they look at a rentl SP who can eat 6-8 starts. Personally, I like Iwakuma. However, I won't be upset if they get a high end closer type, so long as the "big 4" prospects are not involved.

Remember that in the post-season, teams only use 3 or 4 man rotations, depending how the off-days fall. That means that CC is almost certainly NOT going to be a post-season SP. Tanaka and Pineda (assuming health) are locks. Eovaldi would be either the 3 or 4 guy. I think the Yanks would like to use Severino as the final SP- but we will see how they use him in the next month. If they acquire a SP who can make post-season starts better than Nova or CC, that could change as well.
CC's problem is his pitches have no movement
Jeever : 7/31/2015 11:13 am : link
His fast ball is 90's but straight as an arrow. His breaking ball is like a Frisbee. It's a cement mixer that says Hit Me!!
Time to put him out to pasture. I'd use him for long relief to eat innings and move Warren back into the starting rotation. Severino will be called up in Sept.
Yanks are going have to go with who they got
micky : 7/31/2015 11:28 am : link
CC got to pick up behind Tanaka, Warren/Evoldi. Til Nova is more rested and pinadagets back.
They're most likely going to make a trade.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/31/2015 11:31 am : link
Just a matter if they go after a starter or not.
