Why start a guy then pull him. If he's on that short a leash, then Goody should not have started the inning and Miller should have.

Was popping in to say the same thing. Give the kid a chance.
Now the winning run is on 2nd for Hamilton
Leake, Hamels, and Price are all gone and they knew the Yanks werent given up the farm.
Yankees need an innings eater, like Iwakuma or Sheilds but I fear teams will see the Yankees as desperate now an ask for the world.
Beltran needs t be DH only, his effort and lack of speed is killing them in the OF.
CC still throws a nice sweeping curveball. His change up is the same. Bottom line he has all the pitches he had before except that overpowering fastball. And it's not like he relied solely on his fastball in previous years. He knew how to pitch. He constantly caves in. Joe has to look at it and say this guy is not coming around to where he thought would be.
With the staff in a bit of disarray maybe now that Adam Warren has had a few weeks off to recharge his batteries and save his innings total they will put him back in the rotation. As for CC, he's giving them nothing but heartburn. Any other pitcher in that rotation at this point would probably be vanquished to the bullpen. Joe has a tough decision to make here. He really does. He knows what he has to do but does he have the nerve to sit an aging veteran who has in the past been a rock but no longer has the chops to get it done.
How much does he earn per start... F'n pathetic!
Was I too abusive calling him a Slob... - ( New Window )

How much weight does he lose in one game pitching in 100 F temps in a gray flannel suit? Sweat is just pouring off of him.

Helped Yanks win their last championship in 2009. Yes,he's deteriorated into someone who should not be in the rotation but as an athlete he's going to take the ball & give you the best he has. The onus falls on management & Giradi-do they bite the bullet, make CC the long man in the BP or do they continue to worry about the $$$ & run him out there? With the Pineda injury & Nova's recovery from TJ, the question is who replaces CC? In house, Severino & Mitchell can fill slots & if they make a deal(s) by 4:00 today, Warren can return as well. I guess by late this afternoon we'll have a better handle on what they're doing going forward!

The mistake made is in signing these over 30 guys when they opt out. Let somebody else pay him. The Yanks already got his prime. I think they have learned that lesson.
Astros supposedly in hunt as well & looking to expand it to include Ross or Cashner!
The same story for Hamels- and adding in the fact that Hamels had a poor record against the AL teams.
The Yanks are in a tough spot on CC- he is signed through next year, and likely 2017 as well- his option vets automatically unless his left shoulder causes him to end the 2016 season or spend a long stretch of the 2016 season on the DL. CC's shoulder has not been the problem, so I imagine that he is he for 2 more seasons- at $25M per. The only choice they really have in 2016 is to run him out there and hope for an ARod/Tex like resurgence.
I think that with Pineda down, maybe they look at a rentl SP who can eat 6-8 starts. Personally, I like Iwakuma. However, I won't be upset if they get a high end closer type, so long as the "big 4" prospects are not involved.
Remember that in the post-season, teams only use 3 or 4 man rotations, depending how the off-days fall. That means that CC is almost certainly NOT going to be a post-season SP. Tanaka and Pineda (assuming health) are locks. Eovaldi would be either the 3 or 4 guy. I think the Yanks would like to use Severino as the final SP- but we will see how they use him in the next month. If they acquire a SP who can make post-season starts better than Nova or CC, that could change as well.
Time to put him out to pasture. I'd use him for long relief to eat innings and move Warren back into the starting rotation. Severino will be called up in Sept.
