Yanks still trying to work a deal for Kimbrel. Why????? We do not need a closer! We have 2 good back end guys. We need a starter. This would be a slap in the face to both Miller an Betances. You don't trade doe the games best closer to make him a set up guy.
If this trade happens And all we wind up with is
Kimbrel and a crpy utility fielder Ackely, I will be very disappointed in the Yanks front office.
A case of being a top prospect and not succeeding right off the bat as a rookie. He's figured it out now
I thought it was a fluke but he's kept it going with the Marlins, at least this year...
Sense #Yankees queasy about giving up top SS prospect (Mateo) for rlvr as great as Kimbrel is. That is why Carter Capps #Marlins makes sense
Agreed. SD wants a SS prospect, that's the issue at hand.
Source: #Orioles closing in on #Brewers’ Parra. Deal expected to be Parra for RHP Zack Davies, straight up.

he and Judge are the two difference-making hitting prospects we have, his value is a fraction what it will be if he does the same thing in Tampa and Trenton next year.

Give them their local boy Kyle Holder! Maybe they won't notice that he's hitting .197. I tried to be as optimistic as possible about that guy but it's not looking good right now.
He's really the same player skill-wise, I think he just learned how to play to his strengths. Keep the ball on the ground (fly balls are death when you have no power), hit the ball to the left side of the infield, and just get onto first base any way you can. His defense is also much improved compared to 2012 (when he was a disaster) - he's not going to win a Gold Glove but he's basically league-average.
I don't think he's -quite- this good, nobody should be expected to run a .400 BABIP, but he's probably a true-talent .350-.360 BABIP guy, and when you turn that many batted balls into hits you don't need to do much else to be a quality offensive player. The bar at 2B is pretty low.

That would be great.

What forum?
He's really turned it on the past month or so. Took a couple months to adjust to the level but that's understandable, full-season ball is a big jump. OPSing .849 this month with 9 XBH and 14/11 BB/K is a fantastic month for him. The offensive bar for SS is so low.
We basics
Y ha e one pitcher that is or will be ready to come up to the majors soon. No one knows how he will do. He could be another Felix or he could be a Mark Prior. he can't be counted on this year.

Refsnyder had a sub-.700 OPS in his post-draft season. Don't read much of anything into a D1 hitter's first taste of pro ball. It's at the end of a very long season. If he's below the Mendoza line after 200 ABs next year start writing the epitaph, for now he's fine.
Completely agree it might already be the best. But if by chance it isn't, Kimbrel would absolutely put them over the top. :)
Absolutely So get a other rotation arm for our layoff run. That makes sense.

Haven't confirmed a possible return, if there is a fit w/ #Yankees for Capps, but a prospect #Marlins have coveted is 1B Greg Bird.

haha. It's early to sentence Holder to Cito Culver-ville. But Tyler Wade is from California, too. And he can hit a bit.

and Wilson has allowed 2 ER in the last 10 weeks. So this may already be the best BP in baseball, at worst it's a top 2-3 pen.

Shreve's peripherals don't really support that ERA. He's good though, but may be overachieving a bit.

His FIP is 3.10, everything else (K/9, BB/9, WHIP, last year's stats) says it's within the range of reasonable.
@Buster_ESPN
There is some speculation within the industry about a possible BOS/Cubs/Padres three-way blockbuster taking shape. Lots of pieces that fit.

I agree. Which is a red flag as to why a team like the Marlins would look to trade him. Doesn't make sense. He's arbitration eligible, so he'll get a raise, but not that much. There were worries about something in his delivery when he was with the Mariners, so maybe a medical issue and they are getting out before something goes wrong.
The issue with Carter Capp is his Hip-Step delivery where he is well off the mound when he throws the ball. He has been called for illegal pitches a few times in the minors. I worry that it could be a big issue in the majors.

It would make a lot of sense. Sox want a long-term return, Cubs want Upton, Padres want a SS prospect.

oh, it's *that* guy? He pitched against us a month or so ago. I think that delivery is illegal. How is it different from just pitching 18 inches closer to the plate?
.@kimbrel46 traded to #Yankees Mateo not part of deal. More details to come. #Padres

MLB has reviewed the delivery and it's been deemed ok. Unless they change the rules, he won't have a problem.
Permitted or not, you have to wonder how it doesn't put additional strain on his body.
