NFT: Yanks talk: Trade deadline final day

superspynyg : 7/31/2015 8:50 am
Yanks still trying to work a deal for Kimbrel. Why????? We do not need a closer! We have 2 good back end guys. We need a starter. This would be a slap in the face to both Miller an Betances. You don't trade doe the games best closer to make him a set up guy.

If this trade happens And all we wind up with is
Kimbrel and a crpy utility fielder Ackely, I will be very disappointed in the Yanks front office.

every pro pitcher's back foot is off the rubber before he releases the ball, I think the only way to enforce the rule would be to say that the front foot must be planted before the back foot comes off. Capps might be illegal if they enforced it that way.

Chapman?

Oh shit.
I wonder if they would eat Phillips' contract

to lower the price prospect wise. You know the Reds would love to get rid of that contract.

I'm not big on Phillips
illmatic : 7/31/2015 12:16 pm : link
but he's still a better hitter than Drew and Ackley. And he's still very good in the field. It would suck ass paying him for two more years though. Can't see anyone taking him but if they want to hang onto their prospects that badly, you never know.
Chapman? Whoa. Never thought that would be realistic

I'd rather give up Mateo if we are getting a starter and an elite closer. Hopefully they are playing the Reds off the Padres with Miami on standby.

There is some speculation within the industry about a possible BOS/Cubs/Padres three-way blockbuster taking shape. Lots of pieces that fit.

It would make a lot of sense. Sox want a long-term return, Cubs want Upton, Padres want a SS prospect.

So why can't the Cubs and Padres get that done? Why do they need the Red Sox? Where do they fit? Other than trying to be a thorn in the Yankees side of course
Re: Capps
Matt M. : 7/31/2015 12:19 pm : link
Even a liberal interpretation of rules leave his delivery as an obvious and egregious violation. I'm surprised he hasn't been forced to change it prior to even making it to the big leagues. It is one thing to get a strong push off a hair early. This is a literal hop forward prior to delivery. He is about 1-2 feet closer to the plate when he releases the ball.
Shields? Meh

Exactly. Unless I've missed something, I don't think he's saying it's being discussed. He's been chatting about trades that he thinks make sense for each team

I think if it gave the pitcher an advantage everyone would be taught to do it. I just can't believe he is able to get anything on it after breaking his momentum.
Maybe the Yanks get Capps and Kimbrel

#Yankees also involved in talks for #Padres Kimbrel. NYY could be willing to include prized prospect Jorge Mateo to close deal #sportsrants

Maybe i read it wrong, i thought this tweet was something he was hearing...

Also, #Yankees could be discussing James Shields with #Padres as well.

Greg Shields has had a bad month
Stu11 : 7/31/2015 12:23 pm : link
prior to that he had been really solid and we know he can pitch in the AL east. I'd take a package of him and Kimbrel as long as it doesn't cost us one of the elite prospects.

If they include Mateo they may be able to pry away a starter. I'd love Ross, would take Kennedy or Cashner, and want to part of Shields.
Would be happy with either Chapman or Kimbrel, tbh.

Makes sense.
let's trade for Chapman, Kimbrel and Capps
RasputinPrime : 7/31/2015 12:31 pm : link
and limit our starters to 5 innings the entire second half. Capps could teach our starters how to preserve their arms by hopping towards home-plate.

Shields is owed a TON of money and at his age is a negative asset going forward...no way in taking on his AND Kimbrel's contract means Yankees have to give up Mateo.

A solid guy that ears up innings and gives your bp less innings is what I want. That will not cost a top 4 prospect. Miller has earned his closer spot. Betances has earned the 8th inning. Wilson and Shreveport have been good. Let's try and improve the rotation with another strong arm.

Who knows when Pineda will be back 2 weeks? 3 weeks? A month? Miller took a month with that same injury.

Can we stop with "earning" a specific f*cking inning? It is the absolute most inefficient way to manage a bullpen to be tied to specific innings, and the idea that it's an earned right is silly. The only benefit of "earning" the 9th inning is that saves translate to big contracts. Miller already got his big contract.
If Yanks dont need to deal Mateo for Kimbrel...

The Padres are trying to attach the contract of second baseman Jedd Gyorko as they discuss trades for their starting pitchers, tweets Jon Morosi of FOX Sports. Gyorko is owed more than $33MM through 2019, and has hit .214/.282/.336 since 2014.

DFA Drew and platoon Gyorko/Ackley rest of way and see which past top prospect can benefit from a change of scenery first.

It's not an earned right, but there's a lot more psychology that goes into baseball than stat guys would admit. Some closers are beasts when they get the ball with a one-run lead but the results are different if they come into a tie ballgame or a four run cushion.
