Yanks still trying to work a deal for Kimbrel. Why????? We do not need a closer! We have 2 good back end guys. We need a starter. This would be a slap in the face to both Miller an Betances. You don't trade doe the games best closer to make him a set up guy.
If this trade happens And all we wind up with is
Kimbrel and a crpy utility fielder Ackely, I will be very disappointed in the Yanks front office.

Exactly. Unless I've missed something, I don't think he's saying it's being discussed. He's been chatting about trades that he thinks make sense for each team
I think if it gave the pitcher an advantage everyone would be taught to do it. I just can't believe he is able to get anything on it after breaking his momentum.

If they include Mateo they may be able to pry away a starter. I'd love Ross, would take Kennedy or Cashner, and want to part of Shields.

Shields is owed a TON of money and at his age is a negative asset going forward...no way in taking on his AND Kimbrel's contract means Yankees have to give up Mateo.

Can we stop with "earning" a specific f*cking inning? It is the absolute most inefficient way to manage a bullpen to be tied to specific innings, and the idea that it's an earned right is silly. The only benefit of "earning" the 9th inning is that saves translate to big contracts. Miller already got his big contract.
DFA Drew and platoon Gyorko/Ackley rest of way and see which past top prospect can benefit from a change of scenery first.

It's not an earned right, but there's a lot more psychology that goes into baseball than stat guys would admit. Some closers are beasts when they get the ball with a one-run lead but the results are different if they come into a tie ballgame or a four run cushion.
