NFT: Yanks talk: Trade deadline final day

superspynyg : 7/31/2015 8:50 am
Yanks still trying to work a deal for Kimbrel. Why????? We do not need a closer! We have 2 good back end guys. We need a starter. This would be a slap in the face to both Miller an Betances. You don't trade doe the games best closer to make him a set up guy.

If this trade happens And all we wind up with is
Kimbrel and a crpy utility fielder Ackely, I will be very disappointed in the Yanks front office.

How good would they be next year?

I dunno. They looked pretty good going into this year and it's not like Uehara has been the problem. :)

Looked good going into this year? Is this serious? Didn't they finish dead last in the east last year? With possibly the worst rotation on baseball before the season started, how exactly did they look pretty good?

seems like we are holding firm on Mateo. Wonder if that triggers a move for Capps.

And that's the problem the Sox hype machine was running it usual course. In particularly out of Red Sox U, er, ESPN. Plenty of us were on here right before the season talking about how bad the rotation had potential to be, but the talking heads refused to believe it and ignored the last place finish last year. It's typical.

#Yankees were willing to put Mateo in offer for Kimbrel and never hear back from #padres so belief is they have deal elsewhere
The Sox will win another offseason trophy this year...
Dunedin81 : 7/31/2015 3:29 pm : link
and be counted on as favorites, and the teams that through a measure of wisdom and luck put together a decent roster will blow past them and all the morons will race to backtrack.

They signed Hanley and Fat Panda?!?

And how's that working out?

I keep hearing that they're trying to sucker the Padres/Cubs into taking Panda off their hands. With their luck, I'm sure they'll pull it off and not have to pay another cent to the fat ass. Just like they suckered the Dodgers into saving them

Cubs make more sense for Kimbrel

if SD wants a SS. They have Baez and Castro to trade.
It's too quiet

I think we see a flurry of moves at 4 PM. Too many teams need to or should be making a move.

Agreed. They need Ross/Cashner and Kimbrel. They also have some young outfielders to pad the deal.

Unless something changes in 5 minutes, #Yankees standing pat. Ackley will be their lone add.

I think we played...
LarmerTJR : 7/31/2015 4:00 pm : link
this too close to the vest...should have made a move for something, at the least, a mid-low tier starter to cover us for the time being...
pretty surprising
Greg from LI : 7/31/2015 4:01 pm : link
I didn't think they needed to sell the farm or anything but kind of disappointing not to get any pitching help at all, particularly when they keep running CC out there to get hammered.
seems like most teams were very practical
RasputinPrime : 7/31/2015 4:01 pm : link
and then there were the Blue Jays and Astros doing their thing.

I agree!
On one hand
Matt M. : 7/31/2015 4:02 pm : link
I'm glad they didn't make a stupid move and get rid of some top prospects. On the other hand, their pitching before Pineda went down was suspect. With him on the DL and Toronto revamping their team, the Yankees really needed to do something.

They will keep running CC out there even if we would have obtained Hamels and Price.
Eh
BigBlueShock : 7/31/2015 4:02 pm : link
I have to admit, I'm slightly annoyed that they did absolutely nothing. They desperately needed to add an arm or two. This is a flawed team that had a chance to really go for it.
You have to wonder what the players think
illmatic : 7/31/2015 4:03 pm : link
seeing most of the other playoff teams making moves and the Yankees add... Dustin Ackley. And knowing the team chasing them has added a couple of perennial all-stars.
I am fine with doing nothing
Rob in CT/NYC : 7/31/2015 4:03 pm : link
Keep the kids, it's more likely than not that we make the playoffs at this point, and after that, anything can happen.

Pretty boring deadline
5BowlsSoon : 7/31/2015 4:03 pm : link
I guess all the excitement was yesterday.
Blue Jays have a shot now.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/31/2015 4:03 pm : link
Good for them. If Yankees don't make it, it's lays at Cashmans' feet. *shrug*
Cashman better bring Severino up
dpinzow : 7/31/2015 4:04 pm : link
He's valuing Severino like an ace and we've got holes in the rotation. They hugged Severino in the Hamels and Price talks so they need to give him the responsibility, otherwise Cashman committed serious malpractice
I don't get the CC thing
Greg from LI : 7/31/2015 4:05 pm : link
They're paying him whether he starts or not. It's not like starting him somehow alleviates his huge cost. Why keep hurting your chances at winning ballgames by sticking with a guy who's been one of the very worst starters in baseball over the past three seasons? Just saying "It's because of his contract" doesn't make any sense.
Surprised Yankees stood pat
kash94 : 7/31/2015 4:05 pm : link
I guess moving forward unless some post 31st waiver deals come through...

Rotation in the short term could be

1- Tanaka
2- Nova
3- Eovaldi
4- CC
5- Some combo of Mitchell, Warren, Serverino

Bullpen could get an upgrade in the form of Bailey in a few weeks too and then of course Pineda would come back in September to upgrade the pen.

Playoff rotation would essentially have to be Tanaka, Pineda, and Nova and then a ridiculous bullpen run lol.
So Dustin Ackley and, nothing else?
Kulish29 : 7/31/2015 4:06 pm : link
Fucking weak sauce.
Fine with standing pat...
Dunedin81 : 7/31/2015 4:06 pm : link
I thought Kimbrel was a stupid fucking decision anyway, limited help this year and ties a lot of money up in the bullpen with the always cost-conscious Steinbrothers ever on the brink of self-imposed austerity. How'd you like them holding the line at $220 with top FA starters this year?
they're not going to put Severino at risk just for this season
Greg from LI : 7/31/2015 4:06 pm : link
You're fooling yourself if you think otherwise.
Doing absolutely nothing can't be spun positively, regardless

This I agree with. It's not like he has not excelled in AAA. Let's see what we have here with him.
I think what actually bugs me isn't that they didn't make more moves
Greg from LI : 7/31/2015 4:07 pm : link
It's that the one move they made was for a crap player like Ackley.
Severino might come up and pitch a bit here and there
Greg from LI : 7/31/2015 4:08 pm : link
But he's not going to take a rotation spot.
