NFT: 7/31 Harvey Day vs Nats

Shecky : 7/31/2015 1:20 pm
Getting this one started a bit early today. First off, tonight is the start of HUGE series. Secondly, seems some are sick of the other thread.

Season on the line here. And no one better than Harvey to start it off. Can they pull off the miracle and sweep the Nats? Win at least 2 of 3? Bigger than any acquisition they make today is the outcome of this series. Play well, and still in this for another month. Play poorly this weekend and it's all but over.

and I'm a believer he'll eventually be a good hitter. Has been his whole minor league career.

Anyone else, just completely wrung out by the last 48 hours? Wow!

Crazy. He went from getting booed earlier in the year to now being a cult hero! I don't know who's starting and who's not but either way we are going to have some serious firepower coming off the bench over the next couple months. We are about to live in a real world where our bench looks something like Uribe, Johnson, Flores, Cuddyer, Kirk, Plawecki.

Should bring his WAR up a point, IMO.
Man.. the Mets are just one of those teams.

It seems like every day you say "you can't make it up".. this is the 3rd day in a row something dramatic and unbelievable has happened.

And thats why we'll never give them up. They are a fucking drug and we are all addicts. lol.
Feel pretty good about tomorrow. Cespedes is a beast

What a shame with Mejia

This team is balls to the wall loaded with Mejia still on the team. Oh well. Still enough young arms to where I think it will be a very good pen but man...

Huge huge win. What a momentum swinger.
Well good for him
moespree : 7/31/2015 11:32 pm : link
He's cemented himself in Mets lore, probably forever to be honest. After the last 48 hours I think it's unlikely 20-30 years from now I'll forget who he is or forget his time with the Mets.
Citi is going to be electric tomorrow night.

He's on pace for 19 this year, so really he's already that. He needs to be more productive beyond the HRs. Getting on base more often would go a long way.

He won't get the abats. Looks like he's platooning with Johnson at 2B and giving Tejada a day off maybe once a week. If Wright comes back, Murphy will move to second and Flores really won't have a spot. I still think Flores is a nice piece for us though. If Wright needs to miss time next year Flores might end up having to play third.
DW cant play every day
spike : 7/31/2015 11:48 pm : link
so Flores will get PT at 2nd, 3rd and even backup SS. Can he play 1B too?

He can take the Kelly Johnson role next year

Yeah more next year and for now he could still be a clutch bat off the bench. I definitely think Flores has been our most clutch hitter this year and I don't think its close.

Every position has depth right now
ZGiants98 : 7/31/2015 11:54 pm : link
especially at 3B and 2B

3B. Wright, Uribe, Murphy, Johnson
SS Tejada, Flores
2B Murphy, Johnson, Flores
1B Duda, Cuddyer, Murphy

C TDA, Plawecki

LF Cespedes, Cuddyer, Conforto
CF Lagares, Kirk
RF Granderson, Cuddyer, Conforto

pretty nice depth right now.
Holy shit!
NYMase : 8/1/2015 12:03 am : link
That was awesome! Did anyone else see Wilmer popping the Mets on his jersey after rounding third? This guy loves it here - it reminded me of when John Starks used to point to the New York on his jersey after hitting a clutch shot in the 4th quarter.

What an awesome game and tremendous job by DMM and all the Mets fans at Citi for responding the way they did to Wilmer, especially that play he made in the 1st and his first AB.

Is there a more bi-polar team in all sports? The range of emotions
Eric on Li : 8/1/2015 12:09 am : link
is staggering. The best sign is how much these guys seem to want to be here and win. Harvey was Harvey tonight, they got some bad luck, and like the rest of the season they took the punch and hit back. There is a ton of depth across this roster, just need a couple guys to get on a roll. So many candidates now I have a hard time believing someone won't...Cespedes, Duda, TdA, Uribe, Murphy, Granderson, Flores, wow.

Ralph, yeah I was hoping. I even posted how if would be fitting if Wilmer hit a walk of HR prior to him doing it so I still had a little faith. That was the even better post (grin)

Great game filled with many great moments for Wilmer
Torrag : 8/1/2015 8:46 am : link
The Mets fans displayed their appreciation and respect for his emotional reaction Wednesday night expressing his pain at leaving the Mets. He responded by producing a gem on the field. From his defensive play early, to the go ahead RBI and capped off by the walk off HR. We witnessed more than just sports it was a triumph of the human spirit.
Great win for you guys

not only a feel good moment for Flores who will become a mainstay in Queens but the Mets proved they aren't afraid of the Nationals anymore and are figuring out how to shut them down

Fulmer is listed at no. 14, FYI.

It's tough to blame fans for expecting the worst or reacting negatively every time ominous updates come out. I try not to react too much to rumors or things that haven't happened yet but can you really blame anyone for thinking what can go wrong will go wrong?

I'm sure the guys who are always even keeled are way better fans than the rest of us.. but it's just being a fan. Everyone handles it their own way.

Thing at the game Wilmer, TDA got big responses .. Legares literally had no response at all.. Which makes some sense because he's been bad but Campbell even got some cheers. Very weird lol

Over the last 3 years I am 3-0

2013 - Jon Niese shutout vs. Philly
2014 - Bartolo Colon shuts down Oakland
2015 - Noah Syndegaard's last start
Has the Cespedes roster move been announced yet?
Eric on Li : 8/1/2015 10:18 am : link
I guess the decision is DFA Campbell and let Conforto stay up until Cuddyer gets back or send Conforto to AA or AAA?

I guess it makes more sense to just send him down and maybe let him get some game experience in RF? I'd certainly prefer to leave Campbell on the side of the road somewhere, but if Cuddyer is back soon maybe you just wait to do it then and make the likely inevitable move now?
Campbell

Send Conforto down. No use having him be a bench player. Chicago did that with Kyle Schwarber. Campbell is awful at the plate but he can play 1B, 3B and LF
Agreed Mike - I think that's the move
Eric on Li : 8/1/2015 10:24 am : link
only question is AA or AAA. At this point Vegas doesn't seem like it has any value and it's further away, but I guess you might as well let him get his confidence up hitting .350.
Agree
DanMetroMan : 8/1/2015 10:25 am : link

If Conforto does go down
ZGiants98 : 8/1/2015 12:11 pm : link
I call him back up Auguest 31st so he can be eligible for the playoff roster. I think it would be sweet having him off the bench in the postseason if it's possible.
I also send Conforto
ZGiants98 : 8/1/2015 12:14 pm : link
To AAA to join his buddy Nimmo. If we felt he's ready for the majors he needs to go to AAA. I honestly think the pitchers are more polished and use more off speed stuff there. Seeing Herrera and Conforto skip AAA and struggle tells me these guys need some time there, regardless of the PCL.
No brainer to me..
arcarsenal : 8/1/2015 12:28 pm : link
Just send Conforto down for August so he can keep playing every day and then call him back up for the push in Sept.

Yup. But if you call him up on September 1st when rosters expand he wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs unless he was replacing an injured player that was. So thats why I hope we call him up a day earlier if its possible.
Right.
