Getting this one started a bit early today. First off, tonight is the start of HUGE series. Secondly, seems some are sick of the other thread.
Season on the line here. And no one better than Harvey to start it off. Can they pull off the miracle and sweep the Nats? Win at least 2 of 3? Bigger than any acquisition they make today is the outcome of this series. Play well, and still in this for another month. Play poorly this weekend and it's all but over.
The Mets have to make a statement this weekend. No way around it. Harvey has to be on point tonight.
Really depends on which Harvey shows up tonight.
Now if only we could trade Collins for a bucket of chum we'd be contenders.

Conforto likely demoted so Cespedes can be used today

this afternoon and told him to not trade him and Sandy said that had a impact on him ; that he really wants to be part of the NY Mets.
These pitchers know we are on the verge of something special and want to be a part of it. It may not happen this year but we've given ourselves a chance with our deadline acquisitions.
Matt has had time to settle in and shake off the TJ rust. His last start was vintage Harvey. If we're going to make a run at this we need him to be that guy down the stretch. It starts tonight vs the Nationals.
ZGiants98 : 6:20 pm : link : reply
Start was the first of the year that he had "his slider" according to him. He could be rounding into 2013 form.
We've protected Harvey and Thor as much as we could during the first half. If we're going to make a run we need Harvey/DeGrom/Thor starting 60% of our games.
Balancing act.
The way he's pitching, how can you shut him down? The last few starts he's been almost every bit as good as DeGrom. Every win matters. But you're right, the innings matter too.
Granderson
Murphy
Wright
Duda
Cepedes
TDA
Cuddyer
Tejada
Bench
Uribe Johnson Flores Plawecki Lagares
Glad Flores is still a Met too. The kid has a ton of potential and will be a player in the near future. We all know it's a business, but it's got to be tough on some of these young players to hear you name in trade rumors or to be traded at a moment's notice.
Speaking of DW, has he progressed to doing enough "baseball activities" that the insurance payments have stopped?
Anyone know how that works?
Yoenis Cespedes: 'I think the Mets are a team that can go very far' - ( New Window )
Yeah they're already getting an RP up. No command tonight.
what is even more amazing is that he keeps getting starts against lefties
Unless Harvey loses it Collins needs to try and let him go all the way tonight. Game is too important
didn't leave Baltimore until 8

In a close game like this it would be a great option for Collins to be able to go to in the right situation.

Thanks,
I wonder why he didn't leave right away since he was packed on a rad trip anyways. Oh well
Two outs I trust Harvey to get out of the inning and keep the challenge intact.
I think this one was pretty clear but one thing to remember is that they have access to both teams telecast for reviews so some times maybe we don't see the best angle that they may see.
Harvey hasn't given up anything. A bad call on hit batter and a ground ball that normally would get the out.
That said, arc was right that they should have gone to Clippard
Its a fucking joke
unfortunately so is the Mets'
Poor harv gets a no decision
Saving Duda for a key PH spot maybe?

He'd be due up 4th in the bottom of the 9th.. if just one runner gets on, there's the key spot.
Washington has a number of lhp in the pen so Johnson neutralizes that more than Duda

LOL, I'm just guessing why Collins may have, not defending it. I said at the start of the game Duda should have been in the lineup all along. He is hot and this game to important not to start your best players.
Waive Mario Torres and bring Verrett back
Do the Nats pull Harper when Niese pitches?
And yet he is starting the biggest series in years. Go figure?

There's a tweet saying Duda may not be available.

You would think if that was true that the SNY crew would have mentioned it.

I didn't hear it announced. He's on the bench I think. Maybe sick, maybe don't want to tip Nats, no idea.
Speculation is Lucas Duda may not be avaliable. Mets withheld the lineup a long time pregame and then put Murphy at 1B.
Get 2 of 3 from these bastards and the soft part of the schedule is coming up.
Love the talent, not a fan of the player. Dude is always pissed off, showing up umps like that. I know we need some fire in the game, but he comes off like a complete dick.
By what they just said it sounds like he isn't activated for this game.
How fitting would it be if Wilmer his a walk off HR?

OH Yeah!
I just smiled when he hit that. This script would get laughed at in production.
or
an injured Gomez and a couple minor league pitchers that likely never see the light of day here?
I know who Id rather have.
Anyone else, just completely wrung out by the last 48 hours? Wow!
"It couldn't happen at a better time to a better person in a bigger situation then that, and we're all so thrilled for him, it's unbelievable."

Crazy. He went from getting booed earlier in the year to now being a cult hero! I don't know who's starting and who's not but either way we are going to have some serious firepower coming off the bench over the next couple months. We are about to live in a real world where our bench looks something like Uribe, Johnson, Flores, Cuddyer, Kirk, Plawecki.
And thats why we'll never give them up. They are a fucking drug and we are all addicts. lol.
Huge huge win. What a momentum swinger.
He's on pace for 19 this year, so really he's already that. He needs to be more productive beyond the HRs. Getting on base more often would go a long way.
Former Milwaukee Brewer Wilmer Flores with the walk off

goes on a tear and ends up being the 20 HR bat we all envisioned?

He won't get the abats. Looks like he's platooning with Johnson at 2B and giving Tejada a day off maybe once a week. If Wright comes back, Murphy will move to second and Flores really won't have a spot. I still think Flores is a nice piece for us though. If Wright needs to miss time next year Flores might end up having to play third.
He can take the Kelly Johnson role next year
He can take the Kelly Johnson role next year
Yeah more next year and for now he could still be a clutch bat off the bench. I definitely think Flores has been our most clutch hitter this year and I don't think its close.
3B. Wright, Uribe, Murphy, Johnson
SS Tejada, Flores
2B Murphy, Johnson, Flores
1B Duda, Cuddyer, Murphy
C TDA, Plawecki
LF Cespedes, Cuddyer, Conforto
CF Lagares, Kirk
RF Granderson, Cuddyer, Conforto
pretty nice depth right now.
What an awesome game and tremendous job by DMM and all the Mets fans at Citi for responding the way they did to Wilmer, especially that play he made in the 1st and his first AB.
In retrospect this was a great post Steve!

might be the jolt Wimer needed to get himself going but he doesn't look any different.

Ralph, yeah I was hoping. I even posted how if would be fitting if Wilmer hit a walk of HR prior to him doing it so I still had a little faith. That was the even better post (grin)
WELL SAID. HH, thanks for being the only rational one the past couple of days (and Z, of course). Threads were so brutal to read, but your comments were the only unemotional ones. Though the rest of the threads were actually pretty freakin entertaining to read...
Fulmer is listed at no. 14, FYI.

no contracts, no who is taking steroids, just great pitching, best fans in the world who get it by the standing O's for Flores all night, great play in the field and the Hollywood walk off by Wilmer and the true joy for him from his team and fans. If this comes off sappy, then I'm a sap. LGM!!

eat a bag of... eh... suck it!
I'm sure the guys who are always even keeled are way better fans than the rest of us.. but it's just being a fan. Everyone handles it their own way.
Over the last 3 years I am 3-0
2013 - Jon Niese shutout vs. Philly
2014 - Bartolo Colon shuts down Oakland
2015 - Noah Syndegaard's last start
I guess it makes more sense to just send him down and maybe let him get some game experience in RF? I'd certainly prefer to leave Campbell on the side of the road somewhere, but if Cuddyer is back soon maybe you just wait to do it then and make the likely inevitable move now?

Send Conforto down. No use having him be a bench player. Chicago did that with Kyle Schwarber. Campbell is awful at the plate but he can play 1B, 3B and LF

Just saw this. Thanks Sheck.
Yup. But if you call him up on September 1st when rosters expand he wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs unless he was replacing an injured player that was. So thats why I hope we call him up a day earlier if its possible.
