He refuses to engage w Giants medical coach or ownership. stupid and stubborn is a terrible combo.
You feel what you want, I'll feel what I want. Even in an unlikely best case scenario he received a life-changing injury. And a little glimpse of mortality. One possibility he's had to at least think about is that he's ruined himself as an athlete and elite money earner. Forever.
He's not gonna get paid by hiding an injury, but he's got a right to go through the healing process any way he wants to. And to protect his interests (if that's how he sees it). His life is more important than his relationship to his employer.
In your life you'd want the same consideration, no?
Seriously, the guy went through a pretty bad tragedy, yes self inflicted but I still feel for the lug.
I'm with you on this.
He's also backed himself into a corner (with his relationship to the team), and probably is fighting with his ego as to how to resolve it.
RE: Serious question...have his calf muscles atrophied

Also, I may be really jumping to conclusions, but that doesn't look like a full thumb.
FW, that was the first thing that jumped out at me, the thumb. Now it may be because the cast is so outsized that a normal thumb would look shortened, but it doesn't look like the size of someone's normal thumb heavily bandaged.
I think the sling may have to do with the reported forearm burns?
more flummoxed by the entire situation, it is just too bizarre from every way you look at it. A total freak accident. And then the whole surrounding story regarding the tag, not being able to see him, etc is just crazy too.
And overall, if you do take a few seconds to think about JPP, the guy, you really can't do anything but feel bad for him. He made a really stupid mistake and it is/could have very serious consequences for his ability to play, ability to earn and frankly affecting the way he goes through life.
And I just can't see a scenario where he is worth the tag dollars. I just don't. The term fubar is so aptly applicable here.
Other than JPP looks like complete shit and is probably beyond his wits at this point with regret, denial, depression, anger, you name it. He blew his finger off, is it really surprising his hand is wrapped in a massive bandage?
Whether it's percocet, vicodin, or any opiate, that's the stare. I saw that idiotic look on my ex wife's face for months (before she was forced to kick the habit), it's burned into my head and that my friends is pain pill face.

More like oxy..which gives me the same look, stare. But, fetynal patch..whole different story/look which I'm on now

I didn't want to suggest it but it does look like he is on some heavy pain pills.
Yeah, my mom always told me, "stupidity is the only crime punishable by nature".
I probably should not have given her so many chances to repeat her favorite line growing up....
Have to give it to her. It is a good, and true line. :)
It might have been addressed, but when was that photo taken?
on any part of your body? I had one from spilling boiling milk onto my foot...
No shit he's on a morphine analog pain killer like percocet or percodan, otherwise the pain is unbearable. He'll be on those for a month or so I'd guess.
He doesn't have use of it. Makes since to just wrap the whole hand - outside of his pinky he probably has zero ability to use any part of it anyway. Also safe to assume the entire hand has burns on it.
what was his state of mind? I've had surgery, major surgery, I barley took the drugs post opt. What the hell do any of you know about JPP's state of mind now that you didn't before? Nothing. Talk about the casts, fine. But the rest? Nonsense

aquidneck, this is thoughtful and exactly right, but also very wrong, imo. The bolded language is undeniable, but it's just so unproductive:
- if he's not going to be paid by hiding the hand, why not show his hand (pun intended) and be equally unpaid?
- if he needs to heal this way, fine, but why not communicate this need via ANY channel--the Giants have made it clear in so many words that they would respect this right and this would serve to take the unspoken animus that lies just underneath the surface.
- if he needs to heal this way and lock himself in a room, as a matter of the human psyche, there is no future there, only the darkness of the awful consequences of that 4th of July night;
- if the lines of communication were opened, even if JPP doesn't intend to show until September, October, at least he and his team can think about moving forward and putting this behind them, however diminished or undiminished as a player he may be.
This is very Dosteyevsky, and it's making a sad situation worse, imo.
Meh...JPP is handling this about as badly as it can be handled, but I still feel bad for him.
He was an idiot and did something incredibly stupid. It's likely to cost him not only a lot of money in the short term but maybe his entire career.
I am sure he sometimes wakes up hoping it was all a dream.
What a waste.

For god's sake, if he lost/seriously damaged his thumb, that just sucks for his life, let alone football
A little of it is over there, some of it is over there, and the rest is up there
Or.....NTTAWWT
Tell me about it!

It's still there, just fucked up.

But he'll be fine. The female doctor and Dr.Chen said so.

1) The word mistake being featured so prominently
2) He got it at Hot Topic (not kidding)
3) Like JPP's hand, it is currently around half off
