What Happened at the Autograph Session at Camp Today?

NJGiantFan84 : 7/31/2015 6:48 pm
I didn't see anything posted about this after a search. Will delete if wrong.

Apparently there were some issues at the session after camp today. People getting pushed up against the fence. A woman had a seizure and fans hurdled her to get to Beckham and Cruz rather than help (though some good people did help.) Even the bleachers partially collapsed.

Beckham and Cruz were whisked away at one point.

Anybody there or hear anything about this? I heard the tail end of the story on the radio. Sounds pretty bad. Here are the tweets from Rock

That link was to an article about it. Here is Rocks twitter.

Bleachers didn't collapse

but it sounded like they did and security removed everyone safely.

The bleachers didn't collapse, but the floor buckled with a loud pop. It seemed like everyone was removed safely.

Barricades and fences heaving with fans trying to get an autograph.

At one point a woman had a seizure and lay on the ground. Fans were stepping over her to try to get an autograph.

I counted at least five young children pinned against the fence in tears.

One young girl in a body brace was being pushed against the fence , her father screaming for people to stop pushing her and her broken back.

Cruz and Odell had to run the last 50 feet or so to get out of harm's way.

Pretty pathetic to act this way. No different than the crazies at Walmart on Black Friday.
wow , I did not see that!

I was in a hurry to get back home...on the thruway now ( my wife is driving). Will have a camp report up around 9-9:30, or a bit latter...
Here's a short article

at Quest is absolutely awful for the fans in every way. I had the chance to go today as I was in the area for work and done by 2 but decided to head home early instead. Not worth it. Wish they never left Albany

while it's ridiculous for people to act like lunatics trying to get an autograph, perhaps someone with a body brace for a broken back should not put themselves in that position. It can't be worth it
This is disappointing both from the behavior of fans and the lack
Bold Ruler : Mod : 7/31/2015 7:23 pm : link
of creating a welcoming environment from the Giants. A total lack of concern for creating a positive fan experience attending camp. Leaving Albany couldn't be more night and day.
I have

been to a lot of practices and while I don't go for the autographs I see what it's like and there has never been anything like this. I'm guessing that the girl and her father did not expect that kind of scene.

Nor did the Giants apparently because Rock said on the radio that while the cops and guards that were there were fantastic with dealing with the issues, there wasn't enough help to go around. Sounds like they underestimated the star power of Beckham.

At some point though, people need to be responsible and act less selfishly. They are Giants fans and Beckham and Cruz had to literally run away to get away from the mob. That is just pathetic.

Autograph hounds are absolutely embarrassing and annoying. That's why camp isn't fun anymore. You have 45 year old men pushing and shoving women and children to get autographs that they will sell on eBay or get autographs from a guy who won't even make the team.
I would be completely for
MookGiants : 7/31/2015 7:30 pm : link
only kids being allowed to get autographs. Bring all the kids into a designated area after practice, let them get their autographs, and be on their way.

Adults acting like fucking animals to get an autograph is disgusting.
Mook,
NJGiantFan84 : 7/31/2015 7:37 pm : link
that is a great idea. That would get rid of a lot of the ones that are looking for a money grab also. Of course I saw adults using kids to get autographs for them, but it would limit the amount of those morons.
If you're 13 or older & you're asking for an autograph...

Might be time to take a long look in the mirror.

There are two separate autograph sections,
Bramton1 : 7/31/2015 8:03 pm : link
one that was for everyone and one may for kids. The crazed adult autograph seekers took over both areas.

+1 and applies to grown "men" at baseball games who fight for foul balls and home runs. I'm not talking about milestone home runs either. When I was 10 my dad had to fight off some douchebag in his 40s who was on top of me trying to get a foul ball.

should be arrested and sent to work camps...
Almost went today, but didn't.

And this would be also a problem with Mook's idea, crazed adult autograph seekers would take over the area..especially using kids to get them auto's..which is pathetic
We could do our part...

I wouldn't look down on a teenager wanting an autograph. Lets not make them all grow up too fast.

But I agree once you are out of high school it is probably a hobby best put on the shelf.

What, you're supposed to wait in line behind someone who didn't plan their seizure better?

The idea of "classy Giants fans" was absurd even before this pathetic incident.

All fanbases are made up of people. And people, by and large, massively suck.
