FFT: Auction League Preparation

bigbluehoya : 7/31/2015 7:09 pm
Both of my leagues switched over to auction-style last year, and quite frankly we've all been kicking ourselves ever since for not making the change sooner.

I ended up middling in both leagues, but still really enjoyed it.

So, my questions for you auction players: what have you found to be the best sources for your draft preparation? Any specific auction strategies that you really like or have had big success with?

I'm hardly the type of FF'er to rip of a list of rankings/values from the internet and chalk through the draft (what fun is that?), but I'm curious to know what thought-provoking or helpful FF media people have liked for auctions (print, online, and/or podcasts are all in play)

Feel free to open this up into love/hates for this year as well.

A few players I've been liking so far from a value perspective:
Brandin Cooks
Eli Manning
Larry Fitz
Allen Robinson
Lamar Miller
Melvin Gordon
Kendall Wright
My only advice is don't be cheap

For the top players, most auction sites have AAVs that are are underpriced. Find the guys you want and go after them within reason. I like the Football Guys Draft Dominator as a good tool for organizing my draft on the iPad, and John Paulsen's lists and rankings at 4for4.com
I do around 8-10 auctions per year

My advice is to spend money on the studs, I will spend almost all my money on around 3-4 studs get a cheap te and qb and fill out the rest of my roster being active in add drops. I think this is definitely the way to go. In my big money league last year, I spent almost all my money on lacy, forte, jeffrey, and antonio brown in a 12 team league where it's 2 rbs, 2 wrs, and 1 wr/rb flex. Then throughout the season picked up roethlesberger and forsett and the team was on cruise control to a championship. Depth is great but when it comes down to it it's all about maximizing your starting lineup as those are the ones who contribute.
Thanks, guys.

I will definitely be checking out Draft Dominator for some draft day organization. I always go in with the best of intentions, and after 2 picks im a disorganized shit-show
