The Redskins picked up Griffin’s 2016 option, but it’s guaranteed for injury only and they aren’t likely to pay him $16.2 million if he doesn’t look closer to the quarterback they want by the time the season comes to an end. |
It's old news, but it got me thinking: at what point do the Redskins shut RG3 down for fear that he will suffer an injury which extends into 2016?
I'm not sure what constitutes an injury that will put the Skins on the hook for the $16.2M, but if a garden variety ACL tear in November or December does the trick, I'm thinking I would release him as soon as it became apparent that he wasn't going to be the team's starting QB come 2016. Benching him would be pointless, because there is still the risk of injury in practice and it's not as if there would be anything he could contribute as a backup other than negativity and distraction.
All I know is we are in for an entertaining year out of the DC Football Club.
