Giants change autograph rules based on today's incident

Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 7/31/2015 9:22 pm
From Raanan:

Quote:
After a dangerous and unexpected situation caused "pandemonium" during the Giants post-practice autograph session on the opening day of training camp, the team made immediate changes to their daily program.

The autograph sessions have been moved to a new area and they are now only for children 12 and under.

Well...

they took Mook's idea and made it reality.

Good job by the Giants, IMO.
Adults clamoring for autographs for themselves
B in ALB : 7/31/2015 9:28 pm : link
is pathetic. Some of these douchebags slink their way into the front of the line like slugs, blocking little kids and it's ridiculous. Watching grown men sprinting to the line in Albany year after year was disturbing. Grow up assholes.
If I saw Eli Manning on the street

I might nod or wave.. otherwise leave him alone..
i was there today
jd311 : 7/31/2015 9:42 pm : link
way too many older men with bags of objects to get signed..

i even saw a guy bring a massive canvas painting in a frame to get signed.

they do have a 12 and below pen which is good, but majorty of autograph seekers seemed to be adults. I dont get the allure of an autograph. maybe when i was a kid it was a big deal, but something about a 45 year old man pushing to get a 23 year olds signature really doesnt make sense..
Best way for these guys to go away
jpetuch : 7/31/2015 10:07 pm : link
is for the players to sign an autograph made out to the person. Value is basically lost.
Good. Fucking losers...
Chris in Philly : 7/31/2015 10:09 pm : link
trying to get autographs as adults.
An example

of the idiocy of the American Public's mania for "Collectibles".
If I want an athletes autograph

I'll buy it, like I did with my LT autographed picture.

A lot of these losers are getting stuff signed so they can sell them...

and it's pretty pathetic. The players are always happy to sign for kids, but they sigh their way through 40 year olds with binders of Bowman Chrome cards, and those guys can be pretty dismissive to the fringey guys.

That said, when I was in Basic a bunch of my tailgate buddies from the AOL boards (some of whom are probably on BBI) took a program and got it signed by half a dozen Giants. It meant (and means) a lot to me, if for no other reason than because the last autographs I sought out were probably at FDU.

And Beckham were removed from the pandemonium by security and had to literally run for fifty yards to eacape the mob according to Tom Rock. These are their fans supposedly and put them in a dangerous situation for autographs.
Wonder how many of those douchebags
Taggart : 8/1/2015 12:25 am : link
Are BBI posters. Probably a lot.

Beningo said he couldn't believe what was going on when Cruz sat down for the interview. And when the interview was over it sounded like the autograph seekers were getting closer to the mics. Beningo said it was like a rock star treatment.
On a friday afternoon there was a big crowd?
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/1/2015 12:31 am : link
You'd think people would be working.

Anyway, autograph hounds are embarassing, and I always think the adults that do this are just selling it anyway. Disgraceful. Good for the Giants making it kids only.
Its the same type of person

that stampedes into walmart the moment black friday doors open. Assholes.

Also, these losers are sending kids to go get autographs for them.
Shame that is ruined for others...

Age12 is a bit extreme. My son is 14...was one of his highlights of the summer. Granted...I have had to stand there with him, just so he didn't get pushed and shoved. They should limit the autographs to one item only per child. These people with bags and arms full of stuff should be thrown out anyway.
good
Matt in SGS : 8/1/2015 9:31 am : link
it should be for the kids. Adult jackoffs who are looking to get shit signed to sell on ebay or to collectors is what causes this nonsense. I'm sure you are going to see one of the assholes try to find some kids to get their shit signed for them.
so what about parents accompianing their kids?
mattlawson : 8/1/2015 10:04 am : link
still going to see issues IMO

I just can't grasp how insane that must be to view in person.
I once saw
MookGiants : 8/1/2015 12:14 pm : link
Kerry Collins call out a guy up in Albany who had a duffel bag full of mini helmets and a checklist. He made sure to let every player around him know not to sign for the guy too. Guy tried to BS his way around it but Collins was pissed
I wouldn't worry if my child were 14
Rob in CT/NYC : 8/1/2015 12:39 pm : link
No one is checking IDs, the thought behind the 12 year old limit is that it is clear that the players sign for children....

And I know very little about these things, but didn't the bottom fall out of the sports collectible market a couple of years ago, except at the very high end? Do people actually make a living doing that?
Shelley Duncan gave the best autographs
Greg from LI : 8/1/2015 12:52 pm : link
Autograph is only worth anything if authenticated
jpetuch : 8/1/2015 1:39 pm : link
Doesnt matter whether it was signed right in front of you by the actual person. I bought some stuff in the mid 90s pretty cheap for Jeter and Arod before they really took off but its basically 50-50 until I get it authenticated. They came with COAs but they are basically useless. The only thing I have of value is an Upper Deck Joe Montana autographed Norte Dame Cotton Bowl football I picked up in a KB Toys 15 years ago. Upper Deck had to even authenticate their foil sticker with research because they couldnt find it and dont even know how many were signed. I always felt uncomfortable as an adult asking for an auto because of this, even for my son.Its a shame what the people ruin for the kids. Make the adults pay for the autographs in a separate area and the kids free in their area. That will end it.
