NFT: Renting a house/villa in Orlando vs hotel

GMEN46 : 8/1/2015 12:52 am
I am going to Disney with the fam around Halloween. It will be 4-6 adults and 2 young kids. I was about to book hotels and someone told me to check out houses/villas to rent. I have been doing a little research and it looks like you can't some pretty nice houses for the same price per night as some of the nice hotels. I am looking at Windsor hills as one of the main options, they have a ton of villas for rent. Does anyone know that area of Orlando? Is it nice and safe? Looks like it is only a few miles from Disney. Does anyone have any experiences with renting houses down there? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks
Name sounds familiar, is that place between Davenport

and Kissimmee when I first moved to the Orlando area for work. I think they were first being developed because it wasn't that many people and the lease was surprisingly cheap. I think my neighbors were all from Europe for some reason. I think the major plus was that it was near the 415 for myself. But I recall Disneyworld and the airport being pretty close.

Not sure if my info is relevant since it was a few years ago though. I didn't see much of any crime or anything because it was mostly no activity. Like I said the area was undergoing development. But a lot of foreign tourists. I think that place had their own security.
nice development

I rented a 3 bedroom townhouse with a splashpool about 5 years ago in Windsor Hills. It's about 3 miles from the Animal Kingdom park, and a less used Disney back entrance. I would rent again in a heartbeat. Very nice complex. Off site rental for Disney is pretty cheap because there is so much supply.
I rented a condo there

last november.. great location... seemed like a very safe place.. very close to Disney and overall you get much more for your money at a villa/home.. .the only thing is that each villa/home is individually operated... to save money they don't turn on the heat in your personal pool or hot tub if there is one.. One time in a town house I rented in Orlando (not windsor hills) the AC unit was underpowered and in May I couldn't get the temperature to below 78. but other than that everything else is great.. hope this helps..
Windsor Hills

I go golfing with a group of guys every year in Orlando and we have stayed in Windsor Hills for 10+ years running. You can't beat it.

We usually rent a two or three 5-6 bedroom houses. The homes are designed for vacation families. Nearly every room has its own bathroom, several rooms set up for kids (2 single beds and children's decor), the homes with pools are pool/hot tub equipped and many garages have been converted to game rooms. (Pool, darts, etc)

The Developement is right of Rt 192 which has every restaurant, grocery store, convenience store and tourist trap imaginable. It is also conveniently located to the rear entrance of Disney and I-4.

If you have golfers in your group there are also many courses outside of Disney that are only a short drive away.

I've never stayed in the Windsor Hills condos or used the common pool area but they look nice too. Security guards to get into WIndsor Hills take their job VERY seriously and once you have your gate pass you can open and close the automatic gate when you enter and leave. Very safe and secure.
Regarding the pool/hot tub

They are usually off when we arrive. Just be sure to turn them on when you arrive and they will be heated in a few hours. Over the course of 10+ Years and our group renting two or three homes each year, there have been one or two occasions when a pool heater didn't work but maintenance took care of it.

Collectively we have rented over 30 homes in WHs and never had any major issues. Homes are all well furnished and clean.
