Is it my imagination or is he making a more concerted effort to hit straight away and go with the pitch rather then incessantly trying to pull the ball no matter where it is pitched since he became a Yankee?

Three of his last four homeruns have been to the opposite field and or straight away. As a matter of fact a lot more of his hits this year have been to opposite field. Lord knows he has enough power he doesn't have to always pull it to hit it out.

Just wondered if anyone else has picked up on it.
I'm pretty sure this stands as evidence...

against Kevin Long. Whatever he tried to do, just didn't work. Pentland and Cockrell must be commended for how they've got this offense clicking.

Long time overdue, imo.
Or his wrist is actually feeling good

So he can stay back and still drive the ball. Isn't longs fault

Amen. Being saying it for weeks now. At some point you have to look at how much better just about everyone is doing and give some credit to Pentland and Cockrell.

I wouldn't say Teix is making an effort to go to CF as much as he is just trying to make solid contact with his natural upper-cut.
Exactly who is the "everyone" that is doing better

Teixeira has played like this before, including his first year with the Yanks, so it would seem reasonable to suggest that health might be the reason. Ellsbury is underperforming. McCann's year over year improvement (and return to career norms) is consistent with a player switching leagues.

Gardner? ARod?
Didi is certainly hitting better now than he was

early in the season. He looks like he's been coached up.
This is based on the eyeball test

I watch one or two full games a week, and a couple innings here and there of the rest, so don't have scientific evidence to back this up...but it seems to me several Yankee hitters have gotten a lot better about using all fields and beating the shifts they face

Even McCann and Tex, 2 of our biggest pull hitters of all, have been getting a few hits up the middle and to the opposite field...and the way Didi has started hitting is tremendous.

Now, if we could get Drew to hit again, we'd be talking miracle-level stuff!

I'm talking solely about Tex. and you can include McCann in that conversation as well. When he was in Atlanta he was known for his ability to use all fields. He comes to theYankees and he goes pull happy. This year he sprays the ball much much more then he did last year.

Yeah

McCann is having a better year, and so is Chris Young.

Didi has clearly simplified his swing since earlier in the season--far less excess movement.

And, of course, we have no idea what Arod would have looked like if he wasn't getting quality coaching, but it is unlikely to have been better than this. And Gardner's OPS is up 86 points.
Take a look at McCann's spray charts
Rob in CT/NYC : 8/1/2015 2:53 pm : link
For this year and last year - they are available on fangraphs - I am not sure they support the idea that McCann is using all fields more effectively this year.

Oh, and Chris Young
Rob in CT/NYC : 8/1/2015 2:55 pm : link
Is having a worse year (in terms of production for the Yankees) this year than last, but last year was a very small sample size.

didi did this last year too. He had a hot 6 weeks in May and June. Let's see where he is in September.
Didi came here and tried to hit every pitch out of the park
dpinzow : 8/1/2015 3:52 pm : link
the first two months. Now he's settled in with some good coaching and trying to hit the ball where it is pitched
gardner is in his typical end of the year slump
Tuckrule : 8/1/2015 4:17 pm : link
hes always around 300 then the last month he dips and finishes in the 270 range. Lets not get carried away the only improvements are tex is healthy as is arod. Mccan is doing less than what he did in atlanta so should we credit the hitting coach for that?

blueblood'11 : 8/1/2015 4:53 pm : link
Maybe the spray charts don't support this idea and I guess you can't argue the data. But he is a much more clutch hitter the year then last.
RAB pretty much debunked this last week
Greg from LI : 8/1/2015 6:16 pm : link
Teixeira actually came out and said that he stopped trying to go opposite field just to beat the shift. He just tries to pull everything now, even pitches on the outer half of the plate. And it's working.
