I know you're joking around but it wasn't a crazy idea to suggest maybe he just needed to clear his head for a week and get his swing back. It wasn't just overreacting to a 2 week slump.... he was beyond lost and it was for a long time. Extremely worrisome.
No one saw him going on THIS kind of tear. He's having a week that is in Barry Bonds territory. I'm as glad as anyone it happened but still.
But apparently it was the addition of Kelly Johnson that sparked Duda's turnaround. When Johnson was signed, Duda asked Collins if he was signed to play first base. Collins responded with "well, that's up to you."
Well played, Terry...well played.
Ok, I live on the west coast and don't get to watch Â
knowing you might get 6 invisible weeks in a row? You might get 3 weeks an 15 home runs? What do you do if you are SA?
We can no longer sign Duda. He's well on his way to having back to back 30 homerun seasons. He would be a complete fool not to at least test free agency in 2 years. Enjoy him while we can.
thru the 2017 season. Either he takes a team friendly deal soon or he plays it out.
What team friendly deal though? He's up for big arbitration the next two years. The chance to extend him was before this season and he smartly refused.
What's the deal with the umps in the background? Haha Â
Im just not that worried about Duda. He's here for another few years. I just wouldnt go crazy committing to a semi-late bloomer who will be 32 during the spring training following his arb years. Im not lining up for Duda's age 34 season. For all we know, Smith or Wright (or Conforto) will be a fine 1b option we already control in 2018.
I dont think Duda intends on playing out his two arbitration years. Â

Im not worried about it either. Just saying we likely missed the chance to sign him to a friendly contract. If he keeps this up he's going to get 30 million per season in a couple years probably on a 5-6 year deal. Luckily Dominic Smith has an arrival date of roughly 2 years so we could either sign him or have a nice fallback. Ill worry about that then.

He will be 31 by then. More than a few major leaugers have seen their hitting stroke disappear before that age. Is he willing to gamble? Is his agent reasonable?

Having the money guaranteed plus a few years at a fair rate would still likely be worth it to him. I bet he resigns after this season with 1 extra FA year added on and a big option year. Guarantees himself minimum 75-85% of what he would have gotten over that same period of time in even the best case scenario, just guarantees it now instead of 30 months from now.

Nah. Premier power slugging first baseman are probably in their prime at 31. They don't need speed and range or any of that. And Duda got a real late start waiting for a spot to clear for him. He has very low tread on those tires.

I disagree. Unless they blow him out of the water it makes no sense for Duda. That would just take him one year past his prime and his one big chance at a huge payday. He's making 20 million in arbitration the next two years anyway.
the same deal for Upton as they did for Céspedes but were turned down.
I hadn't heard that before.
Yeah San Diego was obviously asking for the moon for any of their players. The fact that they didn't make one move at a time when a bunch of teams were all in is very telling
that could go wrong in 2 full seasons. Nelson Cruz was top 10 in MVP voting and what massive contract did he cash in this offseason? He's getting 14 and change a year, less than 60m total. Considering they already had really extensive talks Duda seems like the kind of guy who would be amenable to an extension now, and if so you can bet it would pretty reasonable for both sides. If not that's fine, he can roll the dice and continued to be an extremely valuable undervalued asset for 2 years. The Mets have all the leverage, that's why they only offered him between 30-40M preseason. Remember the rumors were they were close to a deal so it's not like Duda & his agent said the Mets offended him with a low offer.
40-50M range was probably what Duda was looking for preseason and the Mets will possibly regret not doing it, the same way Duda possibly regretted not doing it last week when he was playing terribly. Obviously there are a ton of things yet to play out with their offseason budget (Cespedes being the biggest) but I'm sure at some point we'll hear the 2 sides negotiating again.
natural in CF too so far. Then again, I thought Granderson did a nice job in CF also last night. Time will tell but it opens the door to so many other possibilities this year.
What about that 1B the Mets drafted a few years back? Â

Eh thats fine but I still disagree. It made a lot of sense for Duda to extend off this year because he's making so little in arbitration this year. You tear that up and offer him more money up front and now suddenly its worth it to him. Now he's getting big money in arbitration anyway so unless you plan on tearing up the whole thing and giving him 100-150 million right now(never gonna happen) he's not extending. And the Cruz comparison is a poor one. Cruz is basically a DH and was coming off a career year playing in a band box. He also had a career of mediocrity. Duda has been a full time starter last year and this year and both are shaping up to be 30 HR seasons. I can't even name 3-4 players in the game that have hit back to back 30 HR in the last few years.
Either way. Just happy we have him for the next two years. If we are winning WS and Citified is packed maybe we are more willing to open up the checkbook in 2018.
RE: What about that 1B the Mets drafted a few years back? Â
Yeah and didn't you want him sent down about ten days ago? (grin) sorry I couldn't resist
Agreed. These big 3 pitchers are amazing.

he has been on fire since, absolute fire.
I should post more negative comments.
Yep.
Would be nice if Bart could pitch even just average....
Well played, Terry...well played.
Real fake umps

Noah has to have an easy 7th to have a chance to get the 8th. Hopefully get some more runs

Yeah Dominc Smith has an ETA of about 2018 so it could work out perfectly actually.
Dom smith is in A+, it will take at least a couple years to get up.
