It's an off day so there isn't much going on. 6 up in the division with a relatively easy schedule, particularly for travel, and with the second and third place teams still playing each other seven times and the Yankees playing both a total of fifteen times they will control their own destiny.
2) Will A-Roid and Texiera stay healthy and produce at their current pace?
I am glad Cashman stood pat and held on the their major prospects.
What they do in the post season is going to largely depend on SP and A-Rod/Teix staying healthy. If Headley, McCann, and Didi continue to hit decently, their offense can be just good enough. But, it will require better pitching. The good news is they can seriously shorten the games for their starters with their pen. Every starter should be on a short leash in the post season.
Yes he is. its on ESPN I believe.
I am fine with not trading him and giving him a chance. But I not looking at him as a solid piece this season. He could surprise me though. I still want to add a SP.
All this "I wish the Yankees had traded for another pitcher" talk made me think of him. He only had four starts this year before his injury. Tough break for a guy who really helped the team down the stretch
But, he says he's been suffering from the effects of bronchitis and distracted by off-field issues.
Maybe change of scenery would do him good.
Six solid innings anymore is considered a quality start. It's how teams manage the back end of their bullpens. Look at the Royals last year. Ned Yost was happy to get six solid innings from his starters then went to his elite bullpen to bring home the win. That was the key to their success last year. And most teams are now trying to follow that blueprint.
So let's stop talking about bullpen burnout. The Yanks are following the Royals blueprint like so many other teams are doing. Besides, Girardi always has the Scranton shuttle to lean on when he needs to and has done pretty darn good job in doing so.
It would be typical of Cashman to take a chance on a guy like Norris. Who thought McCarthy would be any good when they acquired him?
Yanks have played 13 games since July 20 (2 weeks ago today), in that time Betances has 5.2 IP in 5 games, and Miller has 4.2 IP in 5 games.
They should be pretty sharp for the stretch run

And despite Shreve's shaky Sunday he has been great this year, and Wilson has been very good too. These BP innings could be beneficial in letting them evaluate which one of Pinder, Goody or Rumbelow will be the best one for the postseason.

but Girardi has been able to use them sparingly the last couple weeks.

I liked Pinder's stuff the best so far - of course on limited chances/viewings. Not that Goody was bad, but Pinder looked comfortable and had nice control.'

That's not surprising, of the prospects on the SWB shuttle he has had by far the most chances. Give Goody twelve outings and he'll probably look comfortable too.

Tanaka vs. Henry Owens today, Boston's lefty is almost as heralded as Severino (who starts tomorrow against knuckleballer Stephen Wright) but objectively probably isn't as good.
It's a damn shame I can't use emojis here.
Folks in the RF bleachers had best be paying attention. The ball will be flying out of the Stadium tonight with this hot, humid weather
Unfortunately, the way Tanaka's been serving up gopher balls lately, this isn't entirely good news.
He is leading the minors in triples.
And Mason Williams had shoulder surgery and will likely miss the rest of the year. Gamel could be added to the 40-man.
"Andrew Marchand
@AndrewMarchand Cashman rules out Pineda coming back in August."
Sucks, but what can you do other than hope Severino hits the ground running?
Or a healthy Jagielo who was mashing in Trenton.
