NFT: Dr. Dre finally releasing new album on 8/7

DanMetroMan : 8/3/2015 11:47 am
(CNN)It may be time to let go of the idea of a "Detox" album from Dr. Dre.

But that doesn't mean there won't be more music coming from the rapper/producer.

Dr. Dre announced Saturday that he will be releasing his first album since 1999's "2001." "Compton: A Soundtrack" will be released on iTunes and Apple Music on Friday.

The rapper revealed on the Beats 1 radio show that the new project was inspired by the upcoming film "Straight Outta Compton," a biopic that documents the rise of his group N.W.A.

He also basically said Detox will never be released
i'm pumped for Straight Outta Compton

when I first saw the trailer a few months back i couldn't believe how much the kid (who I know know is his son) looks like Ice Cube. They nailed the casting overall and the music should be great.

As for Dre, he's better off not releasing Detox. Too much to live up to at this point and if you aren't 100% into it, it will likely suck. This is my problem with many rappers after their first few albums. Too much money, and they move on to bigger projects outside of music (which I completely understand).
That movie is getting really positive press.

for this movie. NWA and Eazy-E were the music of my youth. Makes me feel like a kid again just watching the previews. I hope it is as great as it looks.

Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Xzibit, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Ice Cube among others will be featured on the CD

BIG FRED 1973 : 8/3/2015 12:14 pm : link
the movie looks perfectly casted
This is not Detox?

And this is not really a soundtrack for the movie.. I'll buy it but I must say my expectations aren't high which is crazy because it's a Dr Dre album who used to mean a guarenteed classic.

I thought it was a Boyz N the Hood remake, haha.

is also on a couple songs, which makes me very excited. A Detroit guy (well, Flint), but signed by Dre. Excellent rapper who has always struggled with production and hooks. I expect big things from him with professionals around him
MC Ren
BIG FRED 1973 : 8/3/2015 12:34 pm : link
better be on at least a few songs ,Mc Eight too
Expectations are extremely low

BIG FRED 1973 : 8/3/2015 2:45 pm : link
be able to buy the cd or is it just a download ? There was no pre order on amazon
Dre didnt even write his own stuff
RELICDOA : 8/3/2015 5:28 pm : link
The DOC ghost wrote most of Dre's stuff and Ice Cube wrote most of Dre's verses during his NWA days. Now that being said his production is incredible and he is one of the best producers.
Ice Cube
Nick in LA : 8/3/2015 9:02 pm : link
wrote most of the verses for everyone in NWA. He was an amazing story teller.
The NWA movie is awesome from what I've read
Kulish29 : 8/4/2015 12:38 am : link
Even though it's 190+ minutes long.

As far as Dre's new album, I hope it's good. Kendrick Lamar's on most of it so, there's that. Anyone hoping for Detox should just abandon all hope now.
I'm hoping for some
SHO'NUFF : 8/4/2015 12:56 am : link

Such a stupid post, especially if you have paid attention to Dre's career. The Aftermath and The Chronic 2001 was never about him or his writing skills. And, even though The Aftermath wasn't a huge success, The Chronic 2001 is arguably the greatest hip-hop album ever released when it comes to sales and commercial success.

Bottom line is, Dre's never been a great rapper or lyricist. But he damn sure knows how to produce the shit out of an album. Just ask Eminem.
Just for the fun of it...

Who gives a shit about sales or commercial success? I'm talking about the quality of the music.
