lineup of the season. Maybe our worst defensive one though (Flores for Tejada and no Lagares in CF). I think the increased fire power is worth it though. Just hoping that our OF can hang in there.
the new guys give TC much more depth and options. So because of Colon's recent struggles, the highest offensive output (in theory) lineup.
Yup. And against lefties.... Uribe kills them. Cuddyer has historically killed them. If Wright comes back, he kills them. Lagares is actually decent against lefties.

Gotta say, it's been the wildest and probably best week to be a Mets fan since Citi Field opened.
Citi Field definitely had a Nassau Coliseum Islander vibe to it this weekend. Long suffering fanbase finally seeing a competitive team and excited as fuck about it.
need another reliever. Sandy acknowledged they tried to acquire one at the deadline but you can't have Alex Torres, Gilmartin and Torres as 3 of your arms and clearly not trust the first 2. Gee for a reliever would make a ton of sense.
Conforto needs to get some hits with this second chance Â
hope with Black? He looked so nasty last year. Is his velocity ok and he's just walking a ton of guys? Maybe send him to AA so he can work on getting his stuff right and not have to worry about the crazy PCL.
Maybe a reliever will pas through waivers that they can trade for Â

I think he's done. Not throwing strikes, velocity fluctuating from each appearance. How can the Mets throw a guy out there who struggles to throw strikes who one appearance will throw 96 and the next top off at 90? They already have Parnell in that boat.
Stauffer figures out what happened this year. He was solid last year. It's easy to blame the PCL for Black but the 51's have 16 pitchers who have thrown at least 20 innings with a better FIP than Black. I mean Matt Bowman has mostly stunk this year yet his FIP is 5.08, Black 6.62. Don't see any reason Black should be at 6.62 with Gee at 3.64 and reasonably blame the PCL.
bone finally healed and he's been cleared. He could be a nice late August/September addition.
He certainly should but he was cleared before Sandy said he was still looking at a reliever at the deadline so he's likely being viewed as a bonus (around 9/1). Still think they need to add another.

of uribe and johnson, it gives the bench a much deeper bench. Once cuddy is back as well you can get him, Lagares, Flores, or Uribe as righties off the bench, on other days Johnson, conforto, and murphy/granderson as lefties.
Seems like he's been on the start of a nice little roll lately.
They barely use him and never use him in big spots. I'm not knocking him but his usage suggests otherwise. He's appeared in 16 games since the end of May totaling 16 total innings, for comparisons sake Carlos Torres (who was AWFUL in June has appeared in 18 games throwing 20.2 innings) and Alex Torres (who is awful in general) has appeared in 17 games throwing 15 innings. Not sure why they don't use Gilmartin more but they don't. If you recall I was all about taking Gilmartin before the draft, I'm not knocking him. I'm perplexed by his usage.
Torres 5.67 FIP yet... 39 games pitched 34.1 innings, Gilmartin 2.83 FIP 34 games pitched 31.2 innings. One has been truly HORRENDOUS and the other very good.
Gilmartin ahead of the Torres as far as hierchy as far as what we''Ve witnessed. Parnell has had two terrible outings now and it's clear even Collins is getting apprehensive. I'd have it Familia, Clippard, Robles, Gilmartin, Parnell, C, A as far as pecking order. It's not surprising many relievers haven't gotten into too many games lately with as good as the starters have been. I think Sandy brings in a reliever like Benoit and between Blevins, Verrett, and Goedell we will be in excellent shape.

on whether defense becomes less important the better your pitchers are (especially flyball high K pitchers). Intuitively I'd strongly suspect that if you add a bunch of Ks then defending against balls in play becomes less important.

Also: Zack Wheeler in the house. He drove down from Port St. Lucie to visit his #Mets teammates (still his Mets teammates) in Miami.
By all reports he is a great guy and has made a great clubhouse that much better. So i am not expecting any negative impact, but I am just curious.

Yet to see a good picture of Harvey, deGrom, Matz, Syndergaard, and Wheeler. Maybe they'll all be chilling tonight. lol
I know they have made it this far with him, but Gilmartin has pitched four times in a month.

Nah. He hasn't seen a full season of plate appearances since 2010. He's bee a part-timer for a while. That's what he is.
Ill take 3 run ball from Colon tonight. If he cant even do that, against this team, forget it. He needs to go.

Thats what happens when your starters are going 7/8 innings almost every night and you have an all-star break in between.

Uribe disappointed with his role so far? Lots of days off. Was he playing as a regular in Atlanta?

Not to mention at least 2 of the outings were extended appearances. He has been more of a long man lately than a LOOGY
Fantastic news. The universe is aligning! Lol

Let's hope he doesn't experience any significant soreness after the session...
