After that he's a FA and odds are, he's going to want to hit the open market. I wish we'd just step up and really open the purses for him but I know the Wilpons won't.
We have to cut him 5 days after season is over which by rule means we cannot sign him until May unless we re-sign him but his agent will want him to test FA unless we drastically overpay
He has weird language written into his contract so that no team can offer him a QO that had him. In theory it makes sense for him but because the team is required to release him earlier than normal we wouldn't be able to re-sign until the middle of May. We do get 5 days after the end of the World Series to negotiate with him but after that we are frozen out I believe. Best we can do is make him a respectable offer but if he is dead set on testing free agency there isn't much we can do. At least thats how I understand it.

The way his contract was written, he was going to get traded more likely than not.
What a weird contract provision. Why on earth would anyone put that provision in their contract? Never seen that before. Just weird unless I'm missing something.

This way a team couldn't lower the market by placing a QO on him because otherwise the team would need to give up a 1st

Quickest way to FA. He's trying capitalize while still young. It's a little different with international FA's.
Btw mets offense are starting to feel like the '06 team. That team crushed bad pitching.

If we go on a great playoff run and he loves NY he'll want to work something out. If he does't we have Justin Upton and Jeyson Hayward on the market.
And like said, lots of moving parts. Conforto just crushed a homerun. What if he proves he is a starter and ready THIS year? Granderson has been fantastic. If he keeps it up his deal might actually be a bargain with only two years left. I don't know right now. All I know is the team rocks now and we have as good of a shot as anyone.

luckily this teams offense is much better than 06
i meant pitching
'06 team had good starting pitching but when Pedro and then el Duque went down, it really hurt their chances.
It's just that when he's bad, he's really, really bad.. like 6-8 ER bad. And we're seeing those every other/every 3rd start nowadays. He's still serviceable for now.. there's just not much of an in between
team in to the ground bad enough. I HATE this team. Its completely irrational living in SOFLO for so long living with those morons. Fuck the Marlins, Fuck their announcers, and Fuck their band wagon fans. And Fuck them for taking the playoffs away from us two seasons in a row on the last day of the year and popping champagne like they won something.
He has a buyout I thought.

Or almost should I say

Would make it tough to resign him?

Haha. Im sure everyone is sick of hearing it. I get like this every time we play them. lol
I want a blow out win to help their run differential.
