I think its finally clicking for the main stream media and fan. We know the ratings were through the roof last night. I think everyone knew about Harvey. Then deGrom from the all-star game. The whole world watched the game last night and realized, holy shit, they have THREE of them. They don't even know about Matz yet. ;)
It was a salary dump. Smart by Sandy to shop for depth a week out of the deadline, when everyone else was too concerned with big moves.
Overnight we've banished the Danny Munos. This team was forfeiting ABs all season with guys who were not MLB worthy. The depth is as big as the top line move.
We had no one to use in late game situations. We didn't have the luxury of using Lagares as a defensive replacement only, we weren't able to bring any sort of threatening hitter off the bench as a pinch hitter unless a regular had that day off (even then it was still unlikely)
The depth now compared to what it was 2 weeks ago is night and day. Huge, huge difference.
..is that we have a bunch of guys who can play multiple positions.
Flores can play 2B, SS, 3B.. Murphy can play 2B, 3B, KJ can play 1B, 2B, LF, RF (probably 3B in a pinch), Cespedes can play LF and CF, Granderson can play any OF position if need be.. just so much versatility.
week or so ago pointing to the odds of making the playoffs. "Cuz ya know.. we are going to have to play .650 ball the rest of the way to get to 90 wins.... yada yada yada. First place bitchezzz...... Ok Ill stop now.

That's so undervalued. When the A's had their crazy first half of the season last year, it wasn't because they had a bunch of superstar players, it was because they had a team full of complementary players and never had to put a bad player out on the field. Everyone was at least OK, even the players who came up from the minors to fill in for the DL.

We have that in spades now. Even Granderson and Cespedes are handling themselves in CF admirably which is shocking. Anybody upset with TDA getting a day off for Plawecki? A few of Uribe, Johnson, Cuddyer, ect are going to be coming off the bench every night.
It allows Collins to really play matchups. He's not really pigeonholed at any position. He has options around the entire diamond and across the OF. Makes a very big difference.
...Fair warning to Washington: This figured to be the most favorable pitching matchup of the series for the Marlins.
It turned into a mismatch quickly in the second inning when Conforto showed the power that made him the Mets' top draft pick in 2014 and No. 2 prospect in the organization by launching Koehler's 3-1 fastball 435 feet into the seats in right-center.
...
There was a decidedly New York state of mind at Marlins Park, as many transplanted Mets fans turned out for a glimpse at their retooled club that was coming off a sweep of the Nationals following a flurry of deals at the non-waiver trade deadline to gear up for a postseason push.
...
Koehler struck him (Flores) out with two runners on to end the first, the only moment of Marlins cheer all night. The rest was a crying shame certainly from a Nationals perspective.
waiver arm and I swear this team will have no weakness. And pretty awesome that HUGE pieces like Matz, Blevins, and hopefully Wright are on the horizon yet.

One team I would not wanna play the rest of the season.......the New York Mets!! They got some fellas that can flat out....BRING IT!!!
Seems like he has always had a little soft spot for NY, even named his daughter Shea because hit hot so well there and his fondness for the stadium.
it will be to have a bonafide, consistent, power threat in this lineup and they go hard and fast for one of these guys in the offseason. Cespedes truly completes this lineup. We are finally at a point where Duda can have a 0fer and have it be hidden instead of scrutinized.
I was thinking that too. Our hottest hitter took an 0-fer. The face of the franchise is on the DL and we put up 12 runs tonight. Cespedes does make a huge difference.
What can we do though? If we stress, we just run the risk of missing out on what could be a special few months.
Best we can hope for is that we make a fair offer. If he doesn't want it, they'll be other players out there. Our roster is only going to keep getting stronger as Herrera and Cecchini force there way on this team. The rotation will be stacked in April, not just coming together in August. We'll be loaded next year. And the days of evaluating are over. The window starts now. If we have a hole, Sandy will fill it.

finally not last in scoring as they overtook Miami with 385. Next up Phillies who are only 3 runs ahead. After that is Atlanta at 394. NL East, outside of Washington, is bad on a whole in terms of scoring.
Highest scoring team in the NL?
Rockies
We'll see how the Nats will respond to the pressure for once.

Maybe you guys don't see it yet. Maybe you never will. I know Sandy won't be looking for credit.
We were a ship without a rudder before Sandy arrived. No plan. No long term direction. It pissed everyone off year after year trading away assets for players far away. It pissed everyone off picking high schoolers far away in the draft. It pissed everyone off being overly patient with players on our roster even though players like Duda, Lagares, and Flores have emerged from that. It probably pissed people off that we shopped in the bargain basement for a few years looking for Marlon Byrds that might even turn into more assets.
Suddenly, all the moves, all the wait is coming to an end. And its happening all at once. BAM. Like a ton of bricks. First round picks knocking on the door. Power pitching in spades. Assets to trade for hitters. Depth depth depth and this train might not stop until 2022. When have we EVER had something like this happen in the history of the Mets? The answer is never. And we owe it all to Sandy.

Good lord. Can you relax.
RE: RE: DW looks like he's packed on a lot of muscle.
I wonder if that's necessarily a good thing with a bad back.
I suspect that strengthening his core muscles and overall back muscles was part of his 2 month plus physical therapy. My assumption is that it will help compensate for the spinal stenosis and allow to him to deal with the rigors of a baseball season. I saw a clip of David running around on the baseball field fielding grounders the other day, and his back is huge and rocked up. He was working his butt off.

There have been plenty of supportive Mets fans during this rebuild.
As to when has something like this ever happened before. For any older fan that was as into the team during the late 70's and early 80's the 1984 season felt very similar. I believe last season I even mentioned in a couple threads how it reminded me of 83 and felt we were on the cusp of something special possibly happening with this young pitching staff.

It's probably a little too early for some of you. It is painfully obvious to me, the way his plan is coming together now and I'm sorry if it comes off over the top. No disrespect to teams in the 70s, I don't think they had close to the depth this team has or is about to have at both the minor league level and the big club.
