Flowers Hip flexor strain can be a lingering thing.

superspynyg : 8/4/2015 9:12 am
Hip flexor strains range from grade 1 to grade 3 and are classified as follows:

Grade 1 Tear: a small number of fibres are torn resulting in some pain, but allowing full function. (This is probably what Flowers grade is)
Grade 2 Tear: a significant number of fibres are torn with
moderate loss of function.
Grade 3 Tear: all muscle fibres are ruptured resulting in major loss of function.

With appropriate management, patients with a minor hip flexor strain can usually recover in one to three weeks.

Hip flexor injuries have a tendency to become chronic. This is because the rehabilitation often fails to address the underlying causes of the injury.

with Flowers day to day, and the lingering threat that this could comeback during the season, I think it makes sense to sign Jake Long (If the Giants deem that he is fully recovered from his injury) and if he is not asking the moon.

He's a Giant now

Whatever his injury, add 2-12 weeks to the initial prognosis.
I agree completely.

As marathon runners know, the hip flexor is one of the most delicate but important muscles in a runner's body. I hope they caught the problem early, as it's not an easy to strengthen it. As soon as I heard about it, I wondered whether all of his double-dose workouts may have had a cumulative effect...
All strains and sprains can linger

I'll get worried if he misses camp. Until then I don't see any reason to.
A player who spent the past nine months rehabbing a re-torn ACL...
Big Blue Blogger : 8/4/2015 9:46 am : link
...doesn't seem like a great insurance policy to hedge a starter with a torn pec and a replacement with a strained hip flexor. If Long is an upgrade, fine - sign him; but I don't follow the logic of "Flowers strained his hip, so the Giants should sign Jake Long."

but he tried to play through it. That was the advice I gave him. In fact, we gave him double shifts to try to up the therapy"

I think it makes sense to sign Jake too

even if he is asking for the moon and even if Flowers didn't have a hip problem. Sound dumb? Maybe but what are we going to do if Pugh or Flowers do get an injury that will keep them out for a few games?

Better to be safe than sorry and I'm still scratching my head as to how JR let this Line get into the situation it is in!
good

idea to give him a break right before today's day off. Tomorrow will be telling.
I've had hip flexor problems
Gman11 : 8/4/2015 9:57 am : link
and, granted I am far from a world class athlete like these guys, but the thing that helped the most was going to physical therapy and doing certain exercises designed for the injury. It's still not 100% even though I can run, play soccer, play hockey with it. The problem is if I have to stretch that side out or turn it quickly (like a LT would do in pass blocking). I've been dealing with it for about 3 years now.
Bill thats my issue

We knew a few days ago yet cont'd to give him double duty?
Put me in the camp our injuries are not coincidence/bad luck
Pretty sure Bill's post was a joke

Thats exactly what happened.

Forget thecurrent injury - w the guy doing twice as much work when can we expect him to hit the wall? Week 6?
I'll wait for Dr. Slefrak's diagnosis before making my mind up

between Slefrek and Thomas everything should become crystal clear.

Thomas as the insider is still one of the more laughable things on BBI - and it rears its head here too.
I think that a lot of people are new enough that they don't know who
Greg from LI : 8/4/2015 10:29 am : link
Thomas is, nor why they should ignore him. It's probably been 5 years since he switched handles.
You guys insist on
djm : 8/4/2015 10:31 am : link
Believing that the Giants are clueless when it comes to managing injuries. It really is hilarious to see it unfold on a daily basis. Please Thomas share some more wisdom.
Hi guys!
Randy in CT : 8/4/2015 10:32 am : link
We going to diagnose this injury and come up with a time-frame for return, per usual? Great!!
To be fair
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/4/2015 10:36 am : link
it does sound odd to continue to give a guy double-duty when he has a hip flexor issue.
I will just play the nasty little freak
idiotsavant : 8/4/2015 10:49 am : link
and tout my suggestion that we trade down and take 3 offensive linesmen

'that said' it is not out of the question that this O line ends up better than last years, so that could be fun.

meanwhile, it is not out of the question that Pugh is better at left tackle this year than he was at right tackle last year, left is his historic position, and he seems more prepared and healthy this year, something we debated here prior.

for the first time, you know all about hip flexors.
They are dropping

was there a news item about the head doctor retiring at age 70?

Russell Warren possibly?

I saw the report that he tried to play through it. Did I miss that Coughlin told him to? Or that Coughlin put him through two a days knowing that he had it? I didn't see any article that suggested that. That's why I assumed Bill was joking.

Nothing in the quotes I saw indicated that the Giants knew of it. Flower knew he was sore, but I didn't see anything that pointed toward the Giants knowing about it until yesterday.

I was being a little sarcastic
Bill in UT : 8/4/2015 12:38 pm : link
but I wasn't joking. I'm pretty sure there was an item a day or so ago saying that TC was aware of the issue several days ago and was letting him try to play through it.
good 'ol thomas
GMenLTS : 8/4/2015 12:48 pm : link
Q: How bad is Ereck Flowers?

A: He doesn’t seem to be bad. It’s a hip flexor issue. This morning he was sore, but by the time I caught him in the meeting room, he was doing this [stretches leg]. Hopefully, it’s just a short amount of time.

Q: Is it something that happened during the practice yesterday?

A: No, a couple of days ago.

Q: So he played through it for a little bit?

A: He tried to, yeah.

This was all TC said. I don't if there were any other reports with different quotes from TC but this is from the regularly scheduled transcript
possibly the kid did not tell anyone about it

If Flowers had failed to notify the coaches or trainers, my apologies to TC
