was meant to be a good thing. The way I read it was that intense was more like uptight. People are fighting with each other. He didn't mean that they were practicing all out the and the Giants don't. He meant that the Cowboys fight with each other and the Giants players get along (for the most part).
I agree, it sounds like we're pussies. Giants have lacked toughness in games. Lacked discipline too. I hope the whole team plays with a lot more nasty this season. Not cheap shots like a Jeff Fischer or Greg Williams type team, but toughness nasty O and D line play, tough physical players that bring the pain. Kind of like when Big Jake used to run over defensive players. It would pick up the whole team.
"[In Dallas] it's a lot of just ... arguing. There is always arguing. People [are] always arguing. And here, we have a good time, we have fun, go out and have practice as professionals.
"In Dallas, it's more intense. There is a lot more buildup. We do one-on-ones or defense vs. offense. I think there is more intensity there. This is more professional. Everyone is trying to keep each other safe."
How could "arguing" be interpreted as a good thing, and "more professional" interpreted as bad?
This is a positive review for the Giants... thats the only way I see it.
Harris says the Cowboys situation is undisciplined. Dallas is always arguing / it's intense (not in a good way) while NYG is fun yet professional. All support to saying "I love the way we practice" re: NYG
We could debate if it needs to be a little less fun & more intense I guess. Of course I'd find it hard to believe a TC run system is "not intense enough." Neither Ranaan nor Harris implied anything negative for NY tho
Coaches have more control of the Giant players regarding fighting etc than Jason Garett and his staff. Jones is also a lot different than Mara and Tisch. Does not mean shit if they have better personnel (or less key injuries) though. They are the team to beat again.
come on and say the Giants were the best team in the NFL to play for and people would find ways to rip it apart.
"Liking a team means it is too easy"
"But how many NHL teams are better"?
"That's just the reporter's spin."
The Coughlin asshole tax. Yeah, that's the ticket".
A physical team in quite a few years, this IMO shows a little bit of why. Teams take their cues from their leaders and for all his Gingery annoyingness, Garrett is a young guy who was molded by old school coaches and loves to preach toughness. He has that mindset, his DC has that mindset and it shows.
I'd put Garrett on the short list of guys I'd love to see coaching this team, he seems to get it now.
the practice is not easy, he is yelling out there, he is commenting on everything down to what flavor gum people are chewing and if they are not hustling to get their water.
Harris' comment about intense was more about it being stressful and there not being as much camaraderie and professionalism (approaching the task at hand).
Now the Cowboys are typically pretty good so i don't know if there is a lot to poke holes at there either though.
I don't view Garrett as superior to TC right now, but the gap is closing. That team is still a little bit wild at times, but it was close to a run last year and they have everyone back they need to save DeMarco Murray.
TC hearing those comments about how fun and easy practice is would make his ears bleed.

Coughlin's Giants teams have sometimes appeared to play without much passion. There's reason to think that's in part because of his coaching style and the type of player he favors. TC's approach is mentally very demanding. Guys who aren't heady have trouble keeping up. When it comes to players, he prefers good citizens who are very disciplined -- guys with a sort of military style. (Sort of the polar opposite of the old "Just win, baby" Raiders.) TC himself isn't a whip-them-to-a-frenzy kind of guy. I think he relies on the team leaders among the players to do that.
Remember that Michael Strahan said the Giants need an "asshole"? The Cowboys seem to have lots of assholes, but are learning to harness the asshole-ery. The Giants still seem to lack assholes, but seem to be trying to develop some. (Justin Pugh seems to be trying to fill that role.)
probably hit bottom in 2013 and still almost beat Cowboys last year - just couldn't make a stop when they needed to.
Giants practices have been run by TC for a while now - this team was physical when it had the tough horses to make that happen. Those guys got old but following TC's regimen they were playing tough, winning football.
and a tough bastard on the field - how many times did you ever hear of Mike Singletary getting into trouble off the field or Ronnie Lott. Same-same Harry Carson.
I think TC tries to motivate them - not sure he always connects (e.g., military references). I wonder, at least early on, if TC presented things that he thought were motivating. Things that would motivate him but might miss the mark w/today's players?
I think the Giants are going to bring it this year. Guys like Pugh, Richburg, Schwartz, Beason, Kennard, Collins and Andre Williams will bring it IMO. Miss that Jacobs and Bradshaw run you over mentality. I think we will see more of it this year however.
I also think the Giants are awfully sick of getting guys injured in practice only to end up missing valuable playing time. They are probably being a little more careful in practice now, as well.
There's plenty of intensity on this team, they just need to stay on the field to show it.
The Giants do a lot of talking and then lose. Not as bad as the first Eagles game but still annoying.
That would be a correct statement in some cases, but Harris was a Cowboy and is now here. So, its not like he just suddently learned to talk. You have to take these interviews with a grain of salt. Every teams beat reporters ask these questions of the new FA player.
Those type of players. No coach no matter how good can toughen up guys who don't have it in them. Some guys are great but just aren't as mean or as tough. Doesn't mean they aren't NFL level but Reese and his guys seemed to literally avoid those types. Flowers is supposedly a tough mean dude. We need more of those

I think Damontre Moore could easily take on the asshole role if TC would let him.

I guess I was a little off topic. I don't look at this as Harris running his mouth. I was pointing to the Giants running their mouth Monday through pregame and then losing. That is really tiring to me. I was able to live with it during the Superbowl run because they were winning but now it is really lame. At least back up the crap coming out of your mouth. I think JPP was a source of this so I guess we won't be hearing it this year.
Some of you sound like you've never played sports before. Teams that push each other in practice are better for it. Competition is a great thing.
Instead of having rookies stand up and sing they just ought put them in the ring and duke it out. That'll toughen them up.
I think its absurd that they would do that.

Dallas has been one of the most consistently mediocre NFL franchises since the late 90s.
Dallas has been one of the most consistently mediocre NFL franchises since the late 90s.
And the Giants have been one of the softest NFL franchises the last three years.

You are both correct.
