If Cespedes can stick in CF it makes his value you go up a ton. He also might be more amenable to a lesser deal length wise. Im thinking 6 years max for Cespedes while Upton might get 7 or 8.
If Granderson is getting 15 million a year I think Cespedes is worth 22/23. Id go 6/135. That would be a very respectable offer. If he truly loves NY and everything that comes with it I think he takes it. If he wants much more than that I won't have an issue with him walking . We'll have other options.
I think that's close but it'll take 6/$143M or or maybe 7/$158M to get him to sign.
a 7 year deal in the post steroid era. I just can't. Granderson is a very in shape, healthy 34 year old and everyone thinks he's ancient and can't wait to dump him.
6 is absolutely as high as I would go for Cespedes.

Yoenis Cespedes said he doesn't know what front office thinking but he'd like to be Met for "long, long time."
He's now seen our pitching in living color. He would be a fool, not to see the potential here, for championships and marketing deals. He knows he's a major component to the the puzzle, in taking this team from being a cast of pretenders to contenders, in a very short period of time.
...never mind buy it outright. The difference between ponying up $10M for rentals in a playoff race and a massive $135m+ contract commitment is night and day.
Maybe if we walk away from enough salary this offseason they can reallocate enough money to make a big splash in free agency.
Duda and Harvey are getting significant raises in arbitration even if we let everyone else walk. Subtract Murphy/Parnell/Gee/Uribe/Johnson/Clippard/Tejada and it seems plausible overall. of course other moves will have to be made to shore up some roster spots and the bench. If Cespedes proves to be a legit CF option Lagares becomes expendable.
This season is the focus and priority right now. Sandy will have a lot of flexibility to reshape this club in the offseason.
Heading into June... Upton was getting 200 Million and Cespedes was getting 100. lol. Then Upton goes 0 for 2 months and Cespedes explodes. Amazing how quick perceptions change. Lets see how he does here and how he finishes. Lot of season left and Cespedes is streaky too by all accounts. .
Massive, massive difference. The Mets need to offer enough where he doesn't even test the market. He doesn't get to find out if there is a "ridiculous" offer like Cano with Seattle. There is almost no chance you get any of the "the market is tepid" bounce back where u get a sweet deal... you are licking his balls so he doesn't get to meet other girls.
Should spend a couple hours walking around Manhattan with a Keith Hernandez to get a taste of how sweet it is to be a key leader helping bring a championship to the Mets even thirty years later.

...Few markets offer the earning power and ancillary benefits NY provides. If contending for titles is a priority for him our pitching staff is a rare commodity.
So maybe...just maybe there is some flexibility in not requiring the Mets to go well above perceived market value.

That was true in the old days. You can be a star at a star's pay grade anywhere now. That's been well demonstrated in sports over recent years. And you can do it in places that don't take nearly 9% of it from you in taxes.

Yeah for me though thats not how I would approach it. I don't want to offer him such a big deal that he doesn't think twice about F/A. That's not Sandy's style or very likely IMO. To me its about offering him a fair deal and all about whether or not he truly loves NY. If he does, it gives us a shot. If he wants us to wright him a blank check to keep in from free agency I don't think thats going to work.
At least he seems open to the idea of accepting an offer without testing the market.
Ball is in the Mets court.

Noah Syndergaard's current 5:1 K:BB ratio is 7th all time among rookies with at least 80IP.
What is happening with that?

I will shut up now.

Love me some Trunk.
He is a radio guy. They're like vampires.
man on 2nd, pitch around him and pitch to Niese.
glad they didn't.
For a bad hitter, he works deep into counts. Had a ten pitch at bat a few games back.
man on 2nd, pitch around him and pitch to Niese.
glad they didn't.
Didn't make any sense.
Maybe Niese's hit earlier influenced them?

glad they didn't.
They may have been arrogantly looking ahead to the 7th w the possibility of Niese leading off.
