As he continues to defend himself against claims of racism, Eagles coach Chip Kelly acknowledged the reason may be because of the way he handled a guy who actually committed some. According to Phil Sheridan of ESPN.com, Kelly was asked Tuesday if he saw a connection between his treatment of wide receiver Riley Cooper after his videotaped racial slur and remarks by former players including Brandon Boykin and LeSean McCoy. “There could be,” Kelly said. “I literally don’t spend time trying to connect Y to X to Z. We have other things to do.” |
I confess. When McCoy and then others made the "racist' claim, I had completely forgotten about the Riley Cooper thing..Sheesh
Instead he gave him a big extension and cut Jackson!
LOL !
Not too bright a statement.

I think you should check on your sarcasm detector...
Kelly may have problems relating easily with black culture. I have no reason to believe that but with a couple of ex-Eagles making this charge it may be an explanation. If so this is bad for the Eagles and good for the Giants but doesn't make Kelly a racist IMO.
“Shady" McCoy has a bad reputation off the field. He leaves 20 cent tips, holds female only parties, etc. He may be a problem in the locker room. I totally understand getting him off the team. Jackson too.

He lead the league in rushing 2 years ago . . . but he's a cheap tipper. Yea, can't be having THOSE kind of guys in the locker room.
Anyway, i don't know if Chip is a racist, but he undoubtedly handled his first couple years in Philly poorly in terms of his relationship with players on the team. When you keep a guy who alienated people in the locker room (Cooper) and then dispatch of someone who is well-liked amongst his teammates (Jackson), it's only natural that resentment is going build up.

I DON'T, in any way think Kelly is a racist, but myopic fool.
The selfish idiots who got run out of town deserved to be run, but Kelly gives them the ammunition to play the race card.
Ironically, the guy I feel most sorry for (or maybe disgusted) is Mike Vick. He "fought the law, (and PETA), the law won" When he stooped and kissed the Eagles' butt by buddying up to Riley, that was rock-bottom.
They are a dysfunctional family (the Eagles), held together by the fear of losing a pay-check, not by any sense of team loyalty.
In contrast - Remember when Michael Strahan stood up to Tom Coughlin, when the Old Man was being a jerk? What did Tom do ? - he went home and looked at himself in the mirror, and the next year picked up a Super Bowl Trophy, the next year
And, Strahan was a bit of a jerk himself when he criticized Fassel while he was home burying his Mother.
Based on reports from Riley's former teammates, it didn't seem to be problem. You carry the baggage you are brought up with and sometimes it slips out, frequently because it is lubricated with alcohol.
and yet the beat the Giants twice.. disgusting.
very true. he grew up after a few years of TC enlightenment. And after Tiki the dooshbag left and Shockey was injured then traded the whole tenor of the locker room seemed to change.

Manny, WTF are you talking about? Vick didn't 'fight the law', Vick fought the dogs (against each other) and ran an interstate gambling ring. No surprise someone capable of that kind of garbage would have a problem buddying up to Cooper to save his own hide.

I'd rephrase that Kelly isn't a good guy, he's weird guy.
There is something just not right about him.
I don't think he's a racist by any means, but there is something just not right about him.
Any HC that walks by his players in the hall way and doesn't acknowledge them........that's weird.
