Randle in 2015

Route 9 in LEH : 8/4/2015 5:32 pm
Do you think last year was his ceiling? 71 catches 938 yards 3 TDs...with Cruz and OBJ on the field at the same time, and Shane Vereen, will this open up some more targets for Randle? I'm kind of "eh" on him, but he's a serviceable number 3 receiver.

What is your opinion?
I think Randle needs to be in a WR room with a lot of talent around
BlueLou : 8/4/2015 5:37 pm : link
him, and the type of co-workers to push him to strive for excellence. I think OBJ and Cruz are the perfect team mates for him, and he will go 80/1000+/7-9 TDs this year.

So long as he stays healthy.
He had
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/4/2015 5:39 pm : link
better play his ass off because he has some real competition this year.

Tend to agree. He may be a bit better statistically than how he looks on the field (if that makes sense) but I would say around those numbers. 70, 900, and 3 last year and the addition of Cruz, Vareen, and more time in the new offense should help free up space and opportunities.
Solid 3rd WR.
Don in DC : 8/4/2015 5:42 pm : link
However, I don't think there is anyway he comes even close to repeating his receptions and yards numbers from last year unless Cruz or Beckham go down with injuries. He just won't get enough targets to post those kind of stats unless one of the better WRs gets hurt.

Which of course we are all absolutely praying doesn't happen.
Given it's his contract year Eric, you think he needs
BlueLou : 8/4/2015 5:44 pm : link
to be pushed by competition for snaps?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/4/2015 5:46 pm : link
We've seen some Giants recently play like crap in their contract year (Nicks and Rolle come immediately to mind).
Problem
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/4/2015 5:47 pm : link
with Randle isn't talent. We've seen him have monster games since his rookie year. But he disappears too much. He got benched twice last year.

We need him to have his head in the game. If not, someone else is going to steal his snaps.
The guy who's gonna have a hard time improving his production numbers
BlueLou : 8/4/2015 5:49 pm : link
is OBJ. With Cruz coming off injury and Randle still unproven by and large, teams are gonna be all over stopping OBJ like white on rice. He's gonna be doubled every snap pretty much except as the Giants play formation and movement games to force single on him as much as they can.

Randle will have lots of opportunities.
.
OBJ_AllDay : 8/4/2015 6:18 pm : link
He will have stretches of great games and some games of 2 catches 18 yards. Thats just who he is at this stage IMO. Inconsistent. Also would like to see him get a little tougher in traffic. He needs to attack the ball in the air more especially on deep patterns. Contract year though. Wouldn't be surprised if he topped 1k yards and 7+ tds

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/4/2015 6:19 pm : link
they are going to move Odell around all over the place. He's going to be a real problem - especially with Cruz back.
Randle is one of the guys I'm very interested in watching in preseason
Sneakers O'toole : 8/4/2015 6:27 pm : link
to see where he stands as a player. He has the potential if ge can put it all together. If he can, this offense has some explosive potential if we can get even mediocre production out of the line.
Imo Randle just needs to be a bit more consistent.
Watson : 8/4/2015 6:48 pm : link
So if teams focus on stopping OBJ, they pay the price.

The preseason won't tell us much more than we already know about his talent. The question is his mental makeup. After two years of talk about a lousy work ethic and the drafting of OBJ, Randle continued his poor work ethic throughout 2015 (he was benched twice late in the season). So what does that tell you?

Talk is cheap. Until we see some consistency out of him, both running routes and catching the ball (not to mention showing up on time for meetings), there is no reason to believe he is any less of a slouch than he's been during his first three years.

Other than the 6 game stretch where he got those 6 TDs in 2013. Meh.
Randle IS the #2..

The coaching staff disagrees with you.

How about James Jones? Maybe he'll see some action. What depth at WR! I'd just wish the OL was more rigid to keep Eli upright all season long.

hope your right.
Is there a chance Randle drops to #4?
Jerz44 : 8/4/2015 10:14 pm : link
1. OBJ
2. Cruz
3. Jones
4. Randle
5. Davis
6. Harris

7? Washington
Or, have Washington as #6 and Harris fill a ST position.
he's going to have this year's memorable super bowl catch
eli4life : 8/4/2015 10:56 pm : link
:-)
Parker's still there too
GiantSteps : 8/4/2015 11:28 pm : link
I do like the Jones signing but I hope that doesn't spell the end for Washington. Just seems like there's too much potential to let him go.
But I also think the competition and talent level
GiantSteps : 8/4/2015 11:28 pm : link
will be great for Randle.
I can see Randle improving - he is only 23
SGMen : 8/4/2015 11:31 pm : link
24 during the season, contract year.

He had a fire lit under his young ass last year late.

Beckham will draw double teams and a strong run game will keep safeties closer to the LOS.

I could see a 16 game 90-1200-7 type season from him. Why not if Beckham goes 16 games as well and draws all the double teams?
So we're going to keep pretending that Cruz has been great
Mason : 8/5/2015 2:24 am : link
since the 2012 season and that it is now somehow the OBJ and Cruz show? Okay I guess.

If Cruz is a #3 and Randle wants to get hungry and join the competition and is #2 in targets, that's fucking fine with me, lol. Just as long as we're winning games, baby shower.
It's a contract
giantgiantfan : 8/5/2015 2:48 am : link
year for Randle, so hopefully he plays lights out. His gain can be the Giants gain, at least for this year. He should see plenty of 1 on 1 with the opposing teams 2nd or 3rd CB.
Ideally....
Milton : 8/5/2015 3:15 am : link
Geremy Davis proves to be the big target #3 WR to complement Cruz and OBJ. Davis is under contract for three more years than Randle is and it's for the league minimum. The plus side to Randle winning the #3 role is that hopefully it would lead to him being overpaid in free agency and the Giants will come out of it with an extra comp pick in 2017.
Trade ?
DylanIRL : 8/5/2015 7:15 am : link
Is there any possibility that we could trade Randle for a low pick if Jones/Wasington/Davis prove to be good enough ?. I don't see us being able to resign Randle next year anyway would like to get something for him.
Randle
stretch234 : 8/5/2015 7:32 am : link
What represents a good year from Randle

4-5 catches per game is 64-80 catches for the year - does that represent a good year

Eli completed 379 passes last year - his most. If you look at roughly the numbers and match up completions from last year

OBJ 90
Cruz 75
RB's 75
TE's 75

you are up to 315 - if you see the 4-5 WR catching 30 passes, you are at 345.

How many does Randle get - does he take away from OBJ and is it realistic for Cruz to get that number

To me Jones is the fallback to Cruz as a slot guy

the kid has doubled
HomerJones45 : 8/5/2015 8:45 am : link
His catches from the year before for three straight seasons.

And he's the only wide out we've had in 10 years that isn't constantly pulling something.

And some of you are still bitching.

He's getting a big contract from someone next season.
what Eric and Milton said
JonC : 8/5/2015 10:52 am : link
The light bulb went on last season and it was against the Rams.

Now he must demonstrate the light bulb will remain on, that's part of maturing into a true professional who can be relied upon before handing him an extension offer.

If he plays well, there's a good chance he'll be gone via UFA, but he's also our #3 WR until proven otherwise. You don't pay #1 or #2 dollars to a #3.
Adding Cruz and Vereen to the mix
JonC : 8/5/2015 10:55 am : link
figures to reduce the number of targets for Randle, et al. That would figure to keep RR's stats in check ahead of UFA offers, but the NFL knows NYG can produce excellent NFL WRs, he's going to have options.

Randle is far better than a "serviceable #3". He is a solid #2 WR, but as of now, doesn't look like he has the tools to be a #1 WR, which some hoped he could become when he was drafted.

What more do you want your #2 WR to do than take advantage of all the attention your #1 WR gets? And that's exactly what Randle did down the stretch when Ds started trying to take Beckham away (not that they had any success there either). If you want to see what a "good #2 WR" looks like, go rewatch Randle down the stretch last season.

And as good as Cruz is/was, he was never really a true #1 WR either. He was great when Nicks was drawing the bulk of the attention and his numbers dipped when Nicks got banged up and he started seeing more doubles. Cruz (healthy) is a low end #1 or high end #2.

Beckham, Dez, Megatron, Green, etc are true #1s. The D can focus on stopping them, but they're still going to get theirs.

Down the stretch, lol. Stretch of what? A stretch of losing 7 games? Randle had one fucking touchdown since Beckham showed up. Lol, he beat up some bad defenses. Like Eric said he disappeared "down the stretch" for a month before the Rams and eagles game.
