T-bone? Other Somerset, NJ people? Giants street names

Moondawg : 8/4/2015 5:35 pm
Boneman, you out there? Did you know this?

I was visiting some family lately, when I noticed that all of the streets around my cousin's place sure look like the names of former giants from the 50's. Summerall Rd., Webster Ave, etc., etc. So, I asked him and he found this: (From the Franklin Times)

Quote:

Several streets in the Levitt
development
are named after
New York Giant football players
and personnel (Mel Tripplet, Pat
Summerall, Tom Landry, Vince
Lombardi, Emlen Tunnell, Frank
Gifford, and Rosie Grier). Former
residents Elaine and Howard
Fox, who have since passed away,
built the homes in the Foxwood
section of Somerset and bought
the adjoining land that became the
Levitt development. Howard was an
avid Giants fan. When the Giants
won the 1956 NFL championship,
he was designing the street layout in
the subdivision, and he named them
after the team personnel. Before he
started building, he sold the approved
subdivision to Levitt. Bill Braham
said in “Franklin Township, Somerset
County, NJ: A History” that Levitt and
Sons had invested $20 million into the
new development called “Strathmore
at Franklin.” The first 14 homes were
ready for occupancy in July, 1964.
Thats pretty cool for old Giants fans.

I grew up nearby in Piscataway and all we had was Chads Place which sounds like a Bush-Gore election but was actually named after a garbage man with a little money.
Born and raised in that little area

Don't forget Vince road for Lombardi and Renfro road, Larsen road, and Sherman Circle.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I haven't had much time to spend on the site with the new baby and all.

No, I didn't know this. The Levitt development sounds somewhat familiar but I haven't even been up to Somerset in almost a decade and haven't lived up there in over 20 years. The Foxwood development actually sounds more familiar to be honest with you.

That's cool to hear though and thanks for sharing!
