Every time Wynn has played he has made plays. That is a valuable trait to have. Some may say it's luck but remember the thing about luck- it's where preparation meets opportunity.
I like Wynn and maybe JPP's injury will be a blessing for us, similarly to how it took injury to get Cruz on the field and we found a real gem.
Food for thought.
Also, before you dismiss this depth chart as nothing more than a meaningless August exercise in futility, remember that the first inkling that we got last year of Donnell's role was on the first released depth chart
It seems the camp reporters are getting it wrong. Haven't they been saying Ayers has been playing LDE? I didn't think that was right. Defensive L/R is from the perspective of the MLB correct?
The Giants have Bobby Hart as a RT, even though we were told he’d have to shift inside to G in the NFL.
Akeem Hunt is ahead of Orleans Darkwa for the fourth RB spot.
Markus Kuhn is ahead of Kendrick Ellis at DT.
Jayron Hosley is ahead of Trumaine McBride and Josh Gordy at CB.
Fells is a better blocker in the run game and has an edge in protection too. It could be a simple as that with a rookie LT and other questions on the OL. Plus, its August 10. The packages this offense uses will get Donnell plenty of snaps.
are not surprises. Fells is the most complete and consistent TE (obviously doesn't have Donnell's athleticism or upside) and Wynn deserves to be on the fist team (I think he is a star in the making).
I was more surprised to see Selvie buried behind Moore
Not til March. That gave me a chuckle. Nothing satisfies me more than people being upset about threads posted on a message board. Particularly when opening them is optional.
but good play calling, discipline, teamwork and intensity can make a big difference - especially if our O avoids turnovers. Anything's possible, in either direction.
Scary looking depth chart. An injury or two in the OL or secondary.... And they're depending on some injury prone guys to stay healthy which makes it worse
Jennings as the starter, AW spelling him and getting the tough yards, Shane Vereen as the 3rd downer and Darkwa ey al as relief/change of pace? That actually looks like one of our stronger units. Reminds me of the pats' unit last year. If Jennings can stay healthy or not, we have bodies. If he can stay healthy, we are tough in that cat.
How are Giants2013 and Ol Dirty Beckham writing these guys off already? If we fail to run the ball it is on the OL.

mention Hosley has talent, but has confidence issues on the field? I thought I read he was practicing well in camp. Perhaps Hosely is this year's Spagnuola reclamation project (See Corey Webster).
Not even 2 full weeks of practice, no preseason games, and a release of the first depth chart and already we are starting with the this team stinks commentary.
I must be getting old because I have come to realize life is more fun when you take an optimistic view vs. a pessimistic view.

It is the normal people who are saying this team stinks...
Lithium Doomster ODB and Giants2012...not much of a surprise...
But how is Jayron Hosley #2 CB for one side? How is he even on this team?
This defense is a better fit for the corners we have. Hosely was incredible in an attack style defense in College. He was not a Tampa 2 zone coverage player. We had a ton of square pegs in round holes for Perry Fewell.

This is fairly accurate.
The corners will look better in this type of defense Â
for the simple fact that Spags is going to be aggressive and that allows the corners to play bump and run and jump passes because QBs will look to get the ball out quicker...
this defense if perfect for a guy like DRC who like to play bump and run...
Fewell's defense was basically drop back 15 yards and keep everything in front...
Spags will stay agressive no matter who is in the secondary...we saw that in 07 against dallas when Ross and Madison were both hurt and the Giants were down to Mcquarters and Webster at the corners..
Fells is the best blocker. With Vereen, Cruz back and some other wr upgrades (slight upgrade) - Donnell's receiver skills are not quite as important. If he doesn't get his blocking skills where they need to be, his place in the league may be as a pass catching HBack - which although not a starter is still a very valuable skill.
. with Vereen, and the wrs you really want fells as a reliable receiver, nothing fancy, and a reliable helper for right tackle.
I like a healthy ayers/wynn combo as well, plus adding ellis, with spags.
and I like the procedure with the safeties, largers back deeper, nifty ones up close to get under tight ends / rb routes, and etc. etc....you can always flip it, or go left right.
an absolute nothing in the run game + barely practiced yet this season
like kevin boss he makes most of his plays from a 2 pt. stance and is best utilized as a move TE/split wide
fells is a much better option for a team looking to run the ball
But after thinking about it, this is smart of Spags to get the most out of all his competing safeties over the next month.
Not that they sneed motivation, but everyone's guessing with Collins and Jackson's positions flipped, and Miles (the only guy with experience) in the back of the pack.
Hosley is ranked #2 because he is the incumbent and none of the guys behind him have done enough to supplant him. Doesn't mean they won't. But they haven't so far.
Always seem to make the simple difficult why would you put Hankins and Bromley in the same position? I don't see what reason they have for doing that does it not make more sense for Hankins, Ellis and Kuhn to be playing the same position. I know it's early but why are you not getting this guy ready to play one day beside Hankins and learning that position now.
Let's give them the benefit of the doubt on most of the other positions and say they just needed to provide the media something but they sure can make OTA's look like a waste of time real fast.
I assume this is specific to the Cinci practice. They probably have organized specifically -1st units out there, 2nd units, etc. So it probably has more to do with how we roll into Cinci than anything else.
alongside Vereen. The kid is so small but he can really move. I have him pegged as a PS guy, but if there is any physicality to his diminutive size, he has an outside shot at more.
I assume this is specific to the Cinci practice. They probably have organized specifically -1st units out there, 2nd units, etc. So it probably has more to do with how we roll into Cinci than anything else.
I don't think it has anything to do with Cincy. Prince, Schwartz etal won't even make the trip
Dragon: A depth chart can't really capture Hankins's role. Â
He's not simply a zero-, one- or three-tech. He's the cornerstone of the DT rotation. He will take the most snaps, and will be paired with all the other DTs who make the final roster. The open question about his role, as Nunn explained, is whether he'll stay on the field in obvious passing situations. Even if he doesn't, he's currently the MVP of the DL.
He's listed under 'other' with Darkwa and Harper, which makes sense. Three running backs are mortal locks to make the team (barring injury, knock wood), and each has a distinct role. The others are on a completely different level, with Darkwa the most likely to stick.
Hunt is a distant long shot for the 53, although I think he's a favorite for the practice squad. His most realistic roster ticket - unless he sets the world on fire in pre-season - is an injury to Shane Vereen or Dwayne Harris.
How is Hosley the incumbent? Both Chykie Brown and Trumaine McBride played ahead of him last year. Mike Harris played ahead of him last year. He's beaten them all out so far this preseason, but mostly in shorts and shells.

Okay. I was going by what was listed in the link and did not realize it was different. In that one it has Hunt listed as I mentioned.
Uber: Yeah, they messed it up when they transposed the table. Â
I still find it very difficult to believe that the role Hankins plays in our defense can ever be the same for Bromley. There is no doubt that today Hankins is the best DL on our team but Bromley will never become the same type of player. You can tell me Ellis, Hamilton, Kuhn or Taylor could become similiar but Bromley was not drafted to play behind Hankins he was drafted to play along side him. There is just no real reason for him to be trying to learn Hankins position when nothing points to him being the same type of player.
He has been effective, he hustles, he's hungry, and makes the most of his talent in his showings last year. Was BBI expecting that stud 3rd rounder Damontre to suddenly change his stripes? I'm afraid we'll be holding our breath for JB as well...
...usually one or two per team, who seem to stick around every year because they are:
1) Well spoken;
2) Says the right thing;
3) Rah-rah team guy;
4) Presentable/good looking to the press and the public;
But talent-wise, they are less than marginal.
That would be our very own Markus Kuhn, and the fact that he's ahead of Kenrick Ellis on the depth chart would be laughable if it weren't such an ill omen.
The guys listed at SS (Jackson and Thompson in particular) are all players who I would've predicted for free safety and the guys listed at FS (especially Behre) all strike me more as strong safeties.
In fact, I think one of the reasons they were projecting Collins to free safety was because they anticipated Behre winning the strong safety job. But with Behre missing so much time and Jackson stepping up, it would seem to me that it's more logical to have the 225 pound Landon Collins in the box and Bennett "see ball-get ball" Jackson playing centerfield.
Here's a funny thing: As of this morning, they've taken it down. Â
The Depth Chart page on giants.com has reverted to:
Maybe the PR staff realized what many on this thread have stated: a depth chart at this stage generates far more heat than light. Just ask Corey Washington.
Milton: Don't overthink the safety positions. They really do seem to be largely interchangeable, with "left/right" being more accurate distinctions than "strong/weak". Ideally, I think Spagnuolo and Merritt woud like to have two guys out there who are capable of playing single-high when necessary. And for an ex-CB/WR, Bennett might not be a pushover against the run.
It is the normal people who are saying this team stinks...

Quote me where I said this team stinks.....
I have said this looks like your typical TC team....8-8, +/-1...
Yes, I have pointed out many of the shortcomings of this team....I felt this team had a shot at the playoffs, if certain players panned out, and we remained relatively healthy.....right now, let's face it, this OL is looking as bad, if not worse, on paper as last year's line....we really have no idea until they actually go out there and play against someone other than their own team mates....
Last year, Beatty was the one guy you didn't have to worry about.....so far Richburg has been hurt, Schwartz is still recovering from last year, our rookie has a hip flexor, a poor backup may be a starter.....as suggested, the Pugh experiment may go out the window, and he returns to a tackle position, and we look for another guard.....
I said we don't know what kind of team we have on defense, with the loss of JPP and the addition of wanna-be's on defense.....you can only hope that this team comes together and progresses each week....by the bye, we will know, whether we will be playing significant games in December....
We haven't played a game yet......so all we can do is see if this OL can come together....Schwartz and Flowers have to be able to play 16 games.....the Richburg injury does not seem serious, but he needs the reps to transition to center....Pugh's flexibility is a plus.....I don't think Beatty comes back in time.....Reese will have to get lucky on the waiver wire or a trade to help this OL....
The Defense is more of an unknown, than the offense....the only DLman we have is Hankins....he will get plenty of attention from the opposition...can the rest of the line step up if he is constantly double teamed? Can Spag's create pressure with this group of linebackers and DB's?
I always felt Fewell did not get the most out of his talent.....Spag's has even less talent than Fewell had.....
The main flaw of the Giants is depth...as I said before, all teams have backups that they will have to depend on.....but the difference in talent level between out starters and backups is just too great...if forced to be used, that's where the opposition will attack....
You play with the hand you are dealt....if this team does well, it will be the coaching staff, more than anything else, that gets us there...
defending marshall newhouse on this football team. he is a known commodity who is one of the worst offensive tackles in the league, just like charles brown last year.
u gotta wonder, just who is doing pro personnel evaluations. (actually u dont - its chris mara)
thats not even getting to JD Walton and the millions we gave him, or sticking with Diehl so far past his expiration date.

u reap what u sow
But if beatty doesnt get hurt newhouse doesnt play.
jd walton, 3rd round draft pick, played in all 16 games first two Â
years, injured ankle 4 games into his 3rd season, we sign him to reasonable 2 year, 6 mil. contract that is easy to cut bait on, turns out the ankle injury really limited him, so we cut him.
It may not have worked out but had he gotten back to the level of his first two seasons, it'd have been a good move and it was perfectly reasonable to hope he might be able to bounce back from injury. What a bogus complaint
As for newhouse, the league is filled with marshall newhouses and the ideal spot for them is on the bench, as a reserve. Fuck reese for not predicting the beatty injury.
I wonder if thomas can even name all the reserve tackles throughout the league that are hands down, clear cut, better than newhouse...
Dont stink but they are way to thin. Injuries happen and in some spots the giants simply would be horrid with injuries.
You can say the same thing about damn near every team in the league, particularly when it comes to offensive linemen.

Go look at the Broncos depth chart sans Clady and tell me what you think. Then explain to me how James Brewer, Charles Brown, and J.D. Walton all have new teams. I've said it before, I'll say it again, there's a dearth of OL talent in this league, and to think that it's unique to the Giants is just plain wrong.
Fells over Donnell?
He may not play in first preseason game...
Interesting.
would think this evolves over the course of time.
happy to see Jennings still up top.
hopefully bromley jumps ahead of Jenkins on performance.
He's 3rd behind Randle. They have 12 starters on offense including 3 WRs...
We know that (CRUZ)

You'd like every prospect to carry themselves the same way.
Ellis needs to get it in gear.

Akeem Hunt is ahead of Orleans Darkwa for the fourth RB spot.
Markus Kuhn is ahead of Kendrick Ellis at DT.

Beyond that a bunch of JAGS.
Beyond that a bunch of JAGS.
I'd add HB's to the thin list. Will you starting your mock drafts earlier this year? I think we need a lot more talent. Certainly more depth.
Spags must be putting Collins in the James Butler role of running the show in the backend. It's "easier" to find SS's who are heat-seeking missiles.
Bamiro listed at G when I thought he was a T- if he plays G, wouldn't he be the biggest G in the League?
I was more surprised to see Selvie buried behind Moore
There goes my appetite
Not a great sign that Selvie and Ellis.....expected better.
It's amazing though, how some people look at 7th round draft picks as starters on this team....if that happens, this team is in trouble...
Back 7 on D looks good too.
How are Giants2013 and Ol Dirty Beckham writing these guys off already? If we fail to run the ball it is on the OL.
