What is the coaching staff seeing in Marcus Kuhn

Victor in CT : 8/17/2015 8:33 am
that none of us are seeing? This guy is awful. Makes no plays, consistently shoved around. Can Bromley be that bad that he can't even get on the field in the first half? If so, Reese has more 'splaining to do for spending a 3rd rounder on him. They have other optons as well in Jenkins and Ellis.
I suspect they were testing that he failed
George from PA : 8/17/2015 8:40 am : link
He won't make roster
I think Bromely ...
Hem Roid : 8/17/2015 8:44 am : link
will be pretty good in the rotation, has a motor ... Kuhn is Reese Scholarship, gotta hit complete rock bottom before you don't see him again ...

Kuhn was a seventh rounder BTW. But yeah I don't see why they have kept him this long. I am sure he is probably a hard worker in practice and a good person but as a football player he is not good

What they see is probably a player on the bubble.

Hankins, Bromley and Ellis are on the team, barring injury. Jenkins is too, unless he shows signs of breaking down. Kuhn has to prove that he's worth spending a fifth roster spot on the DT position, and he has to stay ahead of Hamilton. As Ellis masters the 1-technique position in a 4-3. Kuhn's playing time figures to diminish rapidly. His window for proving his value is closing.

I think the Giants will ultimately carry nine DL, not ten, and Kuhn will be out of the League in September. I also suspect he'll be a candidate to return when injuries hit the defensive line. None of the Giants' DEs are big enough to move inside, except in obvious passing situations; so as soon as a DT gets hurt, they will have to bring somebody in. Kuhn will be the obvious choice. Taylor might be on the practice squad, but he's probably very raw; Hamilton would be a potential replacement too, though I think he has used up his PS eligibility.
This is a good thread because is it about Reese's ego or putting

the best team out there? You are right. This guy needs to hit the bricks! Kuhn wouldn't make any other roster and shouldn't make this one.

Kuhn is on the roster because he's a hard worker who's paid the price to get some burn. But, the productivity isn't there and the clock is ticking loudly.
I've tried to focus on his play,
HomerJonesredux : 8/17/2015 9:02 am : link
at least to the degree you can while watching on television, and I never saw a play in which he showed anything that made me glad he was on the roster. It is hard to understand what the coaching staff sees that made them keep him around. He is now thirty. I suspect he will can cut this year and doubt anyone will pick him up.

Good post

Would Kuhn make another

NFL roster if he was cut? Would Herzlich?

I agree
RollBlue : 8/17/2015 9:13 am : link
focused on him a lot and he did absolutely nothing. How don't know how he gets such rave reviews from the coaching staff. Also, Reese does not say who stays and who is cut. That's mostly on the coaching staff. I don't believe for one minute if Spags and TC wanted to cut him, Reese would say no.
kuhn doing
area junc : 8/17/2015 10:06 am : link
nothing would be an improvement. he gets manhandled. he's a complete liability
Its only preseason
PatersonPlank : 8/17/2015 10:09 am : link
In preseason players are given a chance. Roster guys like Kuhn, Hosley, Hermann, Jerry, a number of WR's, etc. will all be given chances to make the team or play themselves off the team. I wouldn't read anything into playing time right now. In fact, lots of playing time could be a bad sign (like with Sinorice). It means its decision time.

Herzlich would. As a 3rd linebacker who plays special teams, those guys are always cheap and have jobs.
Well then Jonathan Casillas really lucked out!

I've been asking this question for two years now
Greg from LI : 8/17/2015 10:54 am : link
He's terrible, and he's proven that in regular season games the past two seasons. No idea why they're still giving him chances.
There's no point in Kuhn being on the roster.
Curtis in VA : 8/17/2015 10:56 am : link
Would much rather have another veteran DT with some type of positive playing experience in there to compete on a 1 year deal than a guy who has already proven he will only hurt you if he gets on the field.

I'm really hoping he doesn't stick this season. We'll see.

Agree and it ain't just those two...
I have to take that back.
Curtis in VA : 8/17/2015 10:57 am : link
I'm not really hoping he doesn't stick. I'm hoping the light goes on and he shows something. But in the event that doesn't happen (which is likely), I hope they keep someone else instead.
Kuhn is the definition of a JAG
mfsd : 8/17/2015 10:58 am : link
as in...just a guy

If Bromley and Ellis can't beat him out for a roster spot I don't know what to think
clearly
idiotsavant : 8/17/2015 11:15 am : link
Hankins has and Bromley/ Ellis really ought to have, higher upside than Kuhn regarding mobility and the ability to disrupt and get back there.

I also think that Hankins could surprise in limited reps at End (left side from D view), sealing the end and allowing whomever (Bromley. O.O. Jenkins or even maybe Wynn) to get some interior disruption going.

It may be, down to, as above, Jenkins health, or Hamiltons fitness and or work ethic or something.
The worst thing about Kuhn is not that he struggles at DT,
Jimmy Googs : 8/17/2015 11:23 am : link
its that people on BBI think a 7th rounder with little prior football experience can develop into a difference maker on our team.

He is only still around due to the overall lack of talent on this roster over the past few years (aka Herzlich).

Excellent analysis, as usual.
At one point during the Bengals game

Kuhn was blown so far off the ball on a run behind the G and T that he finally gave up and ran backwards around the LB'ers and ended up BEHIND the safety before he jumped on the pile to help stop the runner. I've never seen anything like it.
