the thumb was going to take a minimum of 6 weeks to heal (at least to the point of being able to do anything close to working out/rehabbing), the finger even less. We're at that timeframe. The skin graft was the wildcard. I know nothing about skin grafts, like whether there's such a thing as degree of skin graft, but there were comments that a severe skin graft could take a lot longer than the fingers to heal and until it's healed, you can't do much other than maybe wiggle your fingers. Dunno if there's such a thing as minor skin graft involving a lesser timeframe.
One very safe prediction is that as soon as he has anything significantly positive to say, he'll be saying it. then it'll be a few weeks more before he can think about putting on a uniform. If he thought he'd be ready by week 2 or 3, we'd know it now, because he'd be angling to get the Giants to carry him for week 1/2 and that million dollar paycheck.
You know that crap is coming. He's show up. Giants will try to put him on PUP...he'll take it to the union.
Why PUP and not NFI? they have to pay him on PUP, but not on NFI and they can roll over any unused cap space to next year when Eli and Prince have to be re-signed.
it appeared as if he decided to amputate the finger so quickly because he thought it would get him on the field. Apparently thats not going to happen even if he's healthy to play week 1. What a waste. Now the risk you took sacrificing your finger wasn't even worth it.
Maybe its me but if its a limb of mine I'll talk to whatever doctor I can to see if there's a possibility of saving it.
I'm assuming that there is cap space to sign him to the tag number
What if he doesn't show up? What happens to that cap space reserved for him? Do the Giants have to set that money aside? Can they spend it and tell JPP "sorry" if he shows up 1/2 through the season?
I really don't know the answer so I ask.
when they said he could get back quicker with the amputation
Why deal with the drama. He destroyed whatever potential he had and his career is all but over. CUT HIM NOW AND LET THE BROWNS OR OAKLAND OR JAX PICK HIM UP! Save the money for more deserving players.

After he signs/shows up they can put him on NFI or release him if his physical condition is lacking and free up that money (not that there will be any 10-15mm a year type of guys out there at that point)
I assume that as long as he is MIA, they need to reserve the pro-rated amount of his franchise tag, or pull the tag
You know that crap is coming. He's show up. Giants will try to put him on PUP...he'll take it to the union.
So, again, the Giants are waiting for JPP to sign a $14.3M contract, so that a very public and bitter confrontation between the two sides will immediately follow.
How is this "the Giants have nothing to lose holding onto JPP"?
And how is "the Giants are the one holding all leverages"?
In this negotiation, JPP is the only one with all the information, whereas the Giants are doing a lot of guess. JPP is the one side that is pursing one definitive goal (just money), whereas the Giants are wishing/estimating what their goal is (a somewhat healthy DE, whatever that means, for a part of the season, however long that is).
"How is this "the Giants have nothing to lose holding onto JPP?...In this negotiation, JPP is the only one with all the information, whereas the Giants are doing a lot of guess."
It's a fair point insofar as the longer this drags out without JPP coming to camp and showing team Docs his hand (and trying to perform weightlifting, grasp, whatever he can or cannot do), the longer the FT money is tied up. In his absence the Giants can only guesstimate how much is available to sign (FA as well as Eli) and still leave a rational amount on the table for a re-negotiated FT.
Also goes to the point made above that there must be no FAs out there whose value clearly trumps the uncertainty over JPP FT dollars, at the moment.
That the potential loss of JPP for the season leads to a massive amount of cap space next year that allows us to re-sign the players we want to keep and improve the the team at our weakest areas significantly.
Of mine Knew the X-Ray tech who took the pics at The trauma center. Counting on him this year would be a stretch. It's also what many experts speculated. That of the thumb was badly injured it would be a long shot to have any real effect this year.
Just can't believe he wouldn't show up and at least try to negotiate a deal where he gets paid something and get down help rehabbing. Not sure his agents get it

He has no leverage because the Giants have already made a determination that they don't need him.
They srecalrwsy assuming he will not be paid unless they want him to be, because that is in fact the case.
has tried to negotiate some sort of settlement but they couldn't agree on terms with the Giants
I'm guessing (educated guess based on Mara's quotes) that the Giants won't discuss anything until after they get to see the hand....as they should
Maybe he has but the Giants want him to come in. His agent I'm sure wants to hide the fact that his hand is as bad as it is but the Giants aren't going to pay him ace this without seeing him. Why would they. He has no leverage
He's getting nothing until me signs his tender and shows up. The. He would be on the NFI buf of now he has to pay any bills related to extra therapy and a extra training related costs out of his pocket. IMO why would'nt you want the Giants to pay those costs? Unless his hand is so bad it's obvious he won't play this year. But then he gets nothing anyway.

To me it still points to if he shows now, he gets 0 and his only option is to wait to where he maybe gets something. You don't think JPP would show up to get help if didn't think the Giants would be scared off as much as he thinks they would be if they saw the extent of his injuries?
C'mon, if he thought he would not lose any chance he has and he could get help, he would. All the data points point to he is banking on a miracle of recovery to come back with some sense of chance in getting a contract.

Maybe he was smart and got top of the line health and disability insurance. I know he is not known for his brains but its not impossible for him to make a good decision once in a while.
It's going to be a while.

Expect more drama soon enough.
Move along; this isn't the defensive end you've been looking for ...
