"The saying is: We're not where we want to be, but thank goodness we're not where we used to be," McAdoo said. "From a physicality standpoint, from a communication standpoint, they're growing." The right side of the line has been a cause of particular stress to those who observe the team. Marshall Newhouse at tackle and John Jerry at guard did not distinguish themselves in last week's preseason opener against the Bengals. Again, though, McAdoo was positive. "I have confidence in Marshall," he said of Newhouse, who was on the Packers when McAdoo was an assistant coach in Green Bay. "He's an athletic guy, a smart guy, and I look forward to him growing in the offense." |
I think Newhouse will have his warts but I actually don't think he's going to be a disaster at all and I really like the left side. I think Flowers is going to be a stud and I think Pugh is where he should be now and will be an excellent LG.
I guess but frankly, it scares the shit out of me.
It sounds like Newhouse's weakness (controlling a pass rushing DE head up) may be less a liability at RG, and Jerry's strength (pass blocking) may be better utilized at RT.
I think Jerry played some RT at Miami and, although not great, he wasn't a disaster there that Newhouse may be.
The only hole to fill. if that happened would be RG (where Jerry continues to struggle). Out of Newhouse or Reynolds, I think we can find a competent player to man RG.
What deal? He's coming back from ankle surgery. It doesn't mean he's got to be in bed in quarrantine or shouldn't function like a normal person. What impression? Should he spend his time yelling at his bones to heal faster?

Whats the deal with this guy? He seems to tweet or do something with the media every 5 minutes yet he's always hurt. I know it's not why he's always hurt but it leaves a bad impression. That right side looks like a nightmare.

Uhhhhhh, yea? Dirt, ice and yelling has been a cure all for years.
We all hope we can get some better players ready by opening day. Be it Schwartz, Mathis or Long. If we aren't able to upgrade at least one staring position before the Dallas opener I'm extremely worried they'll be an anchor on our offensive potential.
I have this sneaking feeling too.. perhaps a good career jouneyman
