blocking by the left side of the line, especially Flowers, on that run. No problem with the pass pro either. But more miscommunications between Eli and his WRs.
the downfield passing scheme was just put in this week, and the offense has been overwhelmingly been focused on down the field stuff tonight. Not seeing Eli and OBJ don't need to play better, they certainly do, but lets not panic yet.
I think they will work it out before the season starts. Also without Cruz and Randle.
OBJ does look like he's not taking any risks and I'm very good with that. He will ball out during the season.
Donnell still needs to learn how to hold the ball.
Parker should have caught that back shoulder.
I'm ok with the defense right now. It's a new scheme for all the players. Last time Spags started out as our DC our defense stunk through the pre-season and we started the season 0-2 as well. It will take some games into the season before our defense starts to click. This is just like the offense last year. Right now I like what I'm seeing from DRC and Beason. Not too mention a SEVERELY depleted secondary.
I hate to think the Giants like him that much starting. Hopefully, he is just getting an opportunity to show what he can do because of the competition there.
I know people can get overly dramatic on these game threads
but no one is lying when it comes to Kuhn. He is so bad. We may be better off playing with 10 people. I wonder what the coaches see in him? How could they possibly watch game film and say "this guy is definitely our starter"? He is literally getting stonewalled, pancaked, driven back on every play.
Playing undisciplined? He's going to get some unsportsmanlike calls this year, I like the attitude he plays with but i won't be shocked if it hurts us.
Eli's been off all night so lets get him to throw a bomb on 3rd and 1. I get they're basically playing what they've been practising this week, but this team fast needs a few things to go right for it to build some momentum.
Is it seriously to much to ask to get just one drive for a td from
in the regular season. I know he's frustrated but you don't want to cost your team 15 yds.
He has a short fuse. we watched him retaliate a few times last year also. It got to the point where you could see the other teams trying to get him to react.
If he keeps throwing passes like that. He has to realize that teams will be rolling that safety to OBJ all day, especially without Cruz and Randle on the field

Exactly. Teams know he has a short fuse and will test him regularly. He must learn to keep his cool.
Complete ineptitude on offense. Complete ineptitude on defense. Several serious injuries, possibly season ending. One piece of good news, we did improve from last week. Gonna be a long season.
Is done, he's so gdamn slow even when healthy. Now he's hurt? Who cares? He was a spark during a 7-9 year two years ago and he's a huge injury risk who is slow when healthy. Anyone worried hasn't been paying attention to his career since Carolina threw him at us for a late round pick. His body is just shot.

Agreed. Good point. It's OK to use Beckham as a decoy. Hopefully that will happen with Cruz and Randle on the field, or teams won't be able to give Beckham as much attention as the Jaguars are tonight when they are playing.
It seems like it has been two or three years since Eli did

anything in pre-season. I think at some point they need to switch it up and see if its just Eli or is it the entire offense.
I've posted the numbers before (a lot), but there is absolutely no connection whatsoever between how Eli performs in the pre-season and regular season.
Giants fans should be smart enough by now to realize that and not worry about it.

Entirely true. It was clear that the Giants were working on the downfield pass in the first two drives against the Jags 1st stringers. First play of the game was almost a homerun. I have zero concerns about Eli or OBJ, but would like to see them have a little success in preseason and then get the heck off the field.
If OBJ continues to see all this attention in the secondary, Cruz is going to have a nice year.
I'm not drinking, sober as a judge, see timing as the issue, when it comes together it will be fun
Let's make it interesting Mr. Sunshine. THis is not a good team and won't be. It's bad now and getting worse. Good means playoff caliber, no chance. This team will be lucky to win 8 games and that's with a TON of luck. I'll make your donation next year to BBI if this is a "good" team, i.e, they end up 9-7 or better. 8-8 is a push, 7 wins or less I win. Deal?

I don't care what Carl Banks thinks. I have seen Beason chasing players and losing ground any time he's in there. If you want to listen to crater face and not think for yourself, be my guest, but I trust my eyes.
Headhunter is right, it's only preseason, very vanilla. I'm here to take part and see what the younger guys are doing and to see the progressing cohesiveness of the offensive line. I'd like Pugh to have a better year than last season for obvious reasons. You don't have to worry about Eli or OBJ. This isn't the first time we've seen shitty efforts during a preseason game. If it were at home vs Philly or Dallas, I'd have a better understanding for the hysteria. Its some preseason game vs Jacksonville, just enjoy and be glad that Eli made it through this game and we got two left!
Hey Joey who took off the duct tape that you said you
need to be duct taped to your chair to watch the game? who gave cut you loose? Are they going to retake you? Is it comfortable watching a game like that?
and get them on the same page I'm telling you I've been watch this shit since the late '50's and I see a football team
I have the same feeling, they just need to gel. Sooner rather than later though
Why have our opponents two weeks in a row in "practice games" performed so much better on offense? These excuses for poor play are just mind boggling to me. We look like complete shit on offense. That's inexcusable because the OL is actually giving Eli time.

You have to believe that Eli is working on certain specific things.

Joey, I thought you were Mr. Positive tonight :)
Just a thought, but maybe different coaches emphasize different things in a preseason game, which leads to certain outcomes on the field that are not always readily apparent to fans.

Have anything to actually add or just being a snarky dick with no real input as per usual? Say something related to the game or just STFU already.

Let's see, a former NFL LB or Joey in Va? I'll go with the former NFL LB's assessment ...that and I witnessed Beason running downfield after a WR. As far as his injury history goes, it's well chronicled and everyone is well aware of it ... we'll just have to hold our breath and hope he can somehow stay on the field this season.
Emil, I think Eli will have a stronger season than he did last year and will build off of last year, + Cruz, OBJ, Shane V and Randle in there too. This confidence in Eli for 2015 is not "not present" because of some stinker in August vs Jacksonville.

I think it was Eli's third drive tonight, when they started to actually run what their offense will look like this year, and it started to look really good. I think the good stuff is on ice right now.
Eric, let's see them play like this vs the Eagles and Cowboys, and I'll be as happy as a pig in his own shit. If the line plays consistently good, the QBs and WRs will click eventually.
Very vanilla stuff in the preseason, and got better when the games were real?
Still, it'd be nice to connect on the vanilla stuff (too).
My sentiments exactly. I think we should expect to see more next week. Preseason game #3, starters to play for a half or so. I bet Cruz gets some playing time too.
Joe flacco vs Eagles
His stat line for the night
3-7 23 yards 2 ints
Eagles destroying the Ravens right now. Chip Kelly has his guys flying around like its a playoff game. I like the enthusiasm, but the Ravens are a good team, and this proves how meaningless preseason scores are.

I love the defense. Players are in position to make plays. The negative plays on defense have come from players just not making a play other than players not knowing their responsibilities. I saw one play on defense with a guy running free and I think it was DRC's mistake. Everybody looked to be in man coverage and he wasn't with Beason trying to cover for him. Otherwise, I like it so far. It is a work in progress but there is a lot of build off of.
What I didnt like is the offense and, to me, this is a direct reflection of the injuries. The OL hasnt played together enough so we are still trying to figure out the right side which is slowing down the continuity of the whole OL playing as one. One top of that, you can see the lack of timing with Eli and the receivers. I was actually very disappointed with basically our starting OL out there with Nassib and they are giving up too much pressure against second team players. The OL played better against Jacksonville's starting D than it did the backups. That is worrisome. We need these guys on the field to get some continuity not just with the OL but with the receivers.
Good job by the OL. Got beat a few times, but that was mostly on obvious passing plays. Flowers looks excellent.
Lots of miscommunications between Eli and Beckham, and other WRs as well. Eli also wasn't particularly accurate.
Don't see the point of Kuhn. Gets easily blocked and ridden out of plays. Got to hope he and Parker are getting a lot of time because the coaches already know what they have with other players at their position.
Jones looked better than Parker or Washington. Got to figure its Beckham, Cruz, Randle, and Harris for the top four WRs. Davis is probably five. That leaves Jones, Parker, and Washington for the last spot.
Nice push by Bromley and Ellis.
Excellent half by Thomas.

Guess it's just my turn to be the target of the cantakerous Joey and his little tantrums Must be exhausting to be such a pathological whiner.
He's a liability every time he's on the field. Not only is he completely stonewalled on passing plays and gets no push, but on running plays, he gets pushed around so easily.
I can't imagine what a team with a competent offense is going to do against this JuCo secondary we have. I'm going to do what I did in the last years of the Fassel era, watch the young guys who show promise and wait for a regime change before I think we have a shot. Reese thinks this team is "close"???? He's as deluded as most of you are. A team that cannot stop the run, run, or defend anywhere is going to stink. We will score at times, this OL will gel and improve but our secondary and LBs are so bad and our pass rush is so meager that we'll be lucky to be in most games against any decent teams.
7-9 at the absolute best. If we win 9 games, I will donate a grand to BBI next year and wear a "headhunter was right" T-shirt. I don't see a football team, not in the least, I don't give a good flying fuck if you've been watching football since the 1850s, I will put what I know up against you or anyone here 10 times out of 10 and we'll see who ends up being right. It sucks, I want this team to be good and challenge for a ring but it's got zero chance this year, absolute zero. Unless a plane carrying the Cowboys and Eagles goes down in flames, we aren't competing for a playoff spot or a division title. This team stinks.
Did Schwartz start tonight? At OT? I know he played some tackle. How did he look there? Did Jerry play RG? How did he look?
I am pretty sure Schwartz didn't start. When he came in he had a good block although he got beat inside. He had his ups and downs. He has to get res because he needs to get his footwork down. He has to bend a little more. He stands up too high. I remember that last year when he injured his toe. He stands up too high and defenders get underneath him. He relies too much on his upper body strength. He is a very strong player so he can get away with that sometimes but hopefully with more practice he will get his legs under him better.
I hope it's a long love affair with the defense, because I have a feelin they are going to need your love around week 3 or 4 when nobody else is showing them any.

Crater Face?! Good grief! Could you possibly have less class?
I know they want Pugh at LG but could our best OL be Flowers, Gettis, Richburg, Schwartz, Pugh?
I doubt they will do it because they want Pugh at LG but also because they like to have a veteran next to a young pup on the OL. Still, I think that combo should be given a shot.
I thought Flowers was strictly a RT coming out of the U and wouldn't have spent the ninth overall pick on him, but he looks like he belongs out there at LT. He's sealing off his guy consistently. He's like the anti-Newhouse.
assume Currie counts against the ninety man roster like Thompson because they don't have any years in the league, and are therefore not vested veterans. So if we replace him, we'll have to cut someone else.
If they lime up with the people we see tonight then yes. Let's see who is in the lineup against Dallas. What I see is some players CLEARLY can't play. That's what preseason is for. Spags scheme seems fine.
is Harris the KR in addition to the PR? If so, who else is back there with him? I really like Hunt returning kicks, but there just isn't a spot on the roster for him.
When all things are equal you go with the younger player with upside. Plus, people keep saying how Washington needs to contribute on special teams. Well, so would James Jones? What is Jones doing on ST?
have the Giants only keeping 3 HBs. I don't like it. I realy like the way Darkwa has run this summer. But, if they go with a 4th RB, the ST play of Hunt may get him the spot.
But the reserves really have looked very good tonight. The second half of this game is the first time I have smiled in the first two games. I don't know if there are any stars out there, but there are some solid guys who can contribute.
Not a future starter here, realistically. Eli is negotiation an extension, so he will be here a while longer. You don't see many guys start for a team after backing up for 6, 7, or 8 years. It is more likely, if he starts at all, that he starts for another team.
Nassib has looked good, but it's against a bunch of guys at the bottom of the roster, same as last preseason. His performance is enough to have confidence in him as the #2 QB.
Eric - Some people this week were saying Jones was not a lock. If that was true, I think he made the team tonight. Davis and Unga took big steps in that direction as well.
and just look at who puts points up on the board via FG range or Tds Nassib the past two years has played better than Eli. And he's done it without OBJ or Cruz to throw to. He plays faster than Eli. He's more accurate and he's more mobile.
If I'm looking at making Eli the highest paid player in the league for the next 5 years or get a pro bowler for him now I'd have to say I might pull the trigger.

First, its preseason which means absolutely nothing for the starters. Its a time to practice and get reps.
Second, Nassib is playing against guys who may not even be in the NFL next week. At best some of these will be backups.
People need to stop making judgements about sure starters after two preseason games.
He wanted players to stop thinking so much and just fly around the field. We saw that. I was very pleased. One area of improvement needs to be short yardage. I think they are still trying to find the right personnel for that. It isnt terrible but it wasnt good either.
Never a good sign if true but either way he's yet another DB added to the pile of limping wounded. I can't even put it into words how deeply troubling and sickening it is year in and year out to see the defensive backfield riddled with injuries leaving that position decimated and gutted throughout yet another season. Giants fans are in tears.
One of these years, when they bring the NFL back to Los Angeles, I'll have to change from U-verse TV to DirecTV or whatever will give me Sunday Ticket.
With seven defensive backs out tonight, the Giants are VERY thin in the secondary. Jaguars may hit some big plays.
NBC 4, if you're in the NY/NJ area.
Giants game captains: Justin Pugh, Cullen Jenkins, Josh Brown,
I am referring to the line of scrimmage guys so lets not get into the secondary injuries.
where you at?
saw that too..hopefully just adjusting his glove though
Donnell has to stop fumbling, it's ridiculous. I think this one was a catch though.
Odell Beckham Jr. has been flexing his right wrist since getting hit on second pass play for Giants. Something to keep an eye on.
Injury Update: LB Mark Herzlich is out with a concussion #JAXvsNYG

Why would the offense be a concern? Two starting WR's are out of the game. The focus is getting the oline to gel, they are off to a good start.
He should be killing Eli for throwing hospital balls
But obj has to hold on to that last one
Odell also seems to be protecting himself and avoiding big hits in the pre-season, hopefully he doesn't play like that in the regular season.
Flowers looks fantastic tonight.

I think he has earned that fact, he will not.

Agreed. Given the injuries, who can blame him? But I'd like to see a few plays from both of them.
100% agree
Eli looks as bad as I've ever seen.
Parker is a limited player. Works really hard, I like him, but he is what he is at this point.
Yes. And he was terrible.

but you can still see how dominant they can be during the regular season if they just get their chemistry a little better.

He should have made that last catch. He wasn't favoring anything. It was just unlike him to drop a ball.
Nine. Don't forget Thompson.
Would Kuhn make another team's 53-man roster?
OBJ does look like he's not taking any risks and I'm very good with that. He will ball out during the season.
Donnell still needs to learn how to hold the ball.
Parker should have caught that back shoulder.
I'm ok with the defense right now. It's a new scheme for all the players. Last time Spags started out as our DC our defense stunk through the pre-season and we started the season 0-2 as well. It will take some games into the season before our defense starts to click. This is just like the offense last year. Right now I like what I'm seeing from DRC and Beason. Not too mention a SEVERELY depleted secondary.
Flowers good, everyone else bad.
I hate to think the Giants like him that much starting. Hopefully, he is just getting an opportunity to show what he can do because of the competition there.

That's all kinds of terrible. Holy shit.
So the #Giants have lost two linebackers and a safety since kickoff. And they had 14 guys out before game started.
If you put yourself in a position where Jon Beason can't afford to get hurt, you're in serious trouble.
But watch, with our luck, after an MRI, it'll be something more..

It's bad FO work for banking on him in the first place.

I hope so, but ODB is one of the right players and Eli is not under pressure, but ....
Giants failing to impress in just about every area, but nothing matters more than Jon Beason sitting with his leg wrapped in ice.
He has a short fuse. we watched him retaliate a few times last year also. It got to the point where you could see the other teams trying to get him to react.
FUMBLE!!!!!
Has to be a feeling, because it can't be based on anything you have seen.

in the regular season. I know he's frustrated but you don't want to cost your team 15 yds.
He has a short fuse. we watched him retaliate a few times last year also. It got to the point where you could see the other teams trying to get him to
react.
Exactly. Teams know he has a short fuse and will test him regularly. He must learn to keep his cool.
Jon Beason still in uniform on the sidelines, walking around, talking to teammates and coaches, nothing on his knees. Could be good signs.
Agreed. Good point. It's OK to use Beckham as a decoy. Hopefully that will happen with Cruz and Randle on the field, or teams won't be able to give Beckham as much attention as the Jaguars are tonight when they are playing.
Carl Banks doesn't agree with your assessment of Beason's speed or lack thereof.
I've posted the numbers before (a lot), but there is absolutely no connection whatsoever between how Eli performs in the pre-season and regular season.
Giants fans should be smart enough by now to realize that and not worry about it.

Yup, these are practice games.

I have the same feeling, they just need to gel. Sooner rather than later though
So far so good

Totally agree.
Strong play so far on this Giants defensive series by Trumaine McBride and Kenrick Ellis.
I just hope they can perform well against the better teams on our schedule.
If Jones is going to bring vet leadership to the WR corps...maybe that is reason enough to keep him. No knock on Cruz of course.

You have to believe that Eli is working on certain specific things.

I just hope the offensive line stays fucking healthy and the same 5 guys play together every week.

Why have our opponents two weeks in a row in "practice games" performed so much better on offense? These excuses for poor play are just mind boggling to me. We look like complete shit on offense. That's inexcusable because the OL is actually giving Eli time.
Joey, I thought you were Mr. Positive tonight :)
Just a thought, but maybe different coaches emphasize different things in a preseason game, which leads to certain outcomes on the field that are not always readily apparent to fans.

Like trying to complete a pass....

I don't care what Carl Banks thinks. I have seen Beason chasing players and losing ground any time he's in there. If you want to listen to crater face and not think for yourself, be my guest, but I trust my eyes.
I would like to think they will approach the Jets game like a normal regular season game. At least for the first half.
I think it was Eli's third drive tonight, when they started to actually run what their offense will look like this year, and it started to look really good. I think the good stuff is on ice right now.
Beason
I'm pretty patient, but they need to have the rust off by the third preseason game. The 4th game is for guys on the bubble.
Still, it'd be nice to connect on the vanilla stuff (too).
Moore needs to be more disciplined in the run game. Right now, he is a 3rd down pass rush guy. He has so much potential.
Still, it'd be nice to connect on the vanilla stuff (too).
And we were 6-10 and lost our first 6 games.
His stat line for the night
3-7 23 yards 2 ints
I do think it is foolish to draw concrete conclusions about the upcoming season from pre-season games.
The defense? Yikes.
Still, it'd be nice to connect on the vanilla stuff (too).
My sentiments exactly. I think we should expect to see more next week. Preseason game #3, starters to play for a half or so. I bet Cruz gets some playing time too.
His stat line for the night

Eagles destroying the Ravens right now. Chip Kelly has his guys flying around like its a playoff game. I like the enthusiasm, but the Ravens are a good team, and this proves how meaningless preseason scores are.
The defense? Yikes.
Loved the run blocking from Flowers.
Spags is getting creative.
Good games by Kennard and Thomas so far. Bromley seeing more playing time.
And they may not this year either. But the offense should be better than what you're seeing in preseason.

Mr. Sunshine
done for the night, not injured.
Terrible is a little harsh... He hasn't played that bad
Jenkins look like crap to me.
As of right now my preference would be
Ayers
Ellis/Bromley
Hanky
Odiggy
Randle is ailing
Cruz is coming back
and OBJ is young and will be doubled all year
You need Jones, he is a complete WR, Washington is not.

One bad play
Could be, but he gave up inside leverage. Never a good thing. He has played well tonight though.
Like Mike Sullivan, the guy he had during his 2011 MVP caliber season...the guy that came back this year.
Eli will be fine
OL did well until end when both tackles struggled a little. I think Schwartz looks rusty. Hope Richburg is OK...he wasn't in there a lot at the end.
I'm not worried about Eli and Odell.
Williams looked good.

Good to see him contributing.
He is relentless
And TC rips Eli and OBJ a new one at halftime?

Way to think for yourself and drink the kool aid so many here are eagerly lapping up. Your next original thought will be your first, have fun with that.
Guess it's just my turn to be the target of the cantakerous Joey and his little tantrums Must be exhausting to be such a pathological whiner.
He did not start, came in during the 2nd. Played RG and RT, played well, but so did Newhouse. Not sure about Jerry, but he didn't stink out there.

I hope it's a long love affair with the defense, because I have a feelin they are going to need your love around week 3 or 4 when nobody else is showing them any.

Have not heard or seen anything on Richburg. Nothing mentioned at halftime either. Maybe they just are managing his snaps?
The DT situation just puzzles me. Ellis and Bromley are clearly superior to Kuhn. Kuhn is on skates out there. Bromley penetrates and Ellis is a wall.
Good, misinformation to lull the Cowboys defense into a false sense of security in week 1.
Taylor Mays so some BBIers can actually pretend he's good
Safety Justin Currie has a fractured ankle.
I doubt they will do it because they want Pugh at LG but also because they like to have a veteran next to a young pup on the OL. Still, I think that combo should be given a shot.
Keep in mind, Mykkele Thompson is on IR. So Justin Currie is 9th DB out right now.

He's been in the game. Hasn't done anything.
If you compare Fewell and Spags, you see a big difference in how they use LBs. Giants fans will grow to enjoy LB play again.
Yup. Saw that as well. Nassib got rid of the ball, but Hart was almost in his lap.
I have been impressed by both, I honestly would try to keep both, I just don't think either would last on a practice squad
He only throws fastballs. He needs a change of pace
Cincinnati?
Nassib has looked good, but it's against a bunch of guys at the bottom of the roster, same as last preseason. His performance is enough to have confidence in him as the #2 QB.
Yup, nice to see some quality depth.
If I'm looking at making Eli the highest paid player in the league for the next 5 years or get a pro bowler for him now I'd have to say I might pull the trigger.

True, but it might show improving depth.

First, its preseason which means absolutely nothing for the starters. Its a time to practice and get reps.
Second, Nassib is playing against guys who may not even be in the NFL next week. At best some of these will be backups.
People need to stop making judgements about sure starters after two preseason games.
They are calling for the cart for Bennett Jackson.
I hope this is not serious. Really think he can be a difference maker.
They are calling for the cart for Bennett Jackson.
crap
There is no way I can see us contending with the injuries we endure.
I know we are thin in the secondary, but come on. Jackson is a guy the defense will be relying on this year!
#Giants have three safeties left now. And 3:19 left to play. Can they make it?

Let Kuhn play safety for the final 3 minutes.
Knee sprain for safety/corner Bennett Jackson. Surely he will have more tests (MRI) to determine severity.
He struggled a bit today tackling but he is always around the ball and has some coverage ability.
Safety is so thin now because of injury.

Hoping for a Collins like knee sprain
Never a good sign if true but either way he's yet another DB added to the pile of limping wounded. I can't even put it into words how deeply troubling and sickening it is year in and year out to see the defensive backfield riddled with injuries leaving that position decimated and gutted throughout yet another season. Giants fans are in tears.
